View Full Version : Has Anyone Noticed?

Has anyone notice that back on H.com aka 'the black hole' that the thread discussing this board has been deleted! hahahahaha! We make a hundred threads asking for answers and changes, with no reply, but we finally take our own action and they all show up! Glad the link was still in a thread in NHR or I have been left out of the fun!

Oh well, on to bigger and better things here! Just thought I'd point it out, and snicker a little!

:cowboy: fyi... I love this freaking smiley!!!!

ETA: Just want to say that I'm totally in love with this new forum software... there's so much I can do! It's so easy... and FAST as HECK!!!!

I agree, 'tis quite funny! Oh well, they're the ones losing a good majority of their members and not able to have new ones. :D

I was actually surprised it stayed up as long as it did.

But then I figured, most of the mods might have thought "what are we trying to hold on to these people for?"

I guess someone found a reason.

MsEddi, btw, is trying desperately to get in, but for whatever reason, she's unable to post. We're trying to work on it with her, but none of it's helping so far. Just an update... Pray for her computer :)

MsE - do you have an online picture site somewhere?

If you do, there is a little yellow box with a mountain on each reply box. You click that and put the http: address from your online picture (from the album) and it shows up immediately.

I don't know if there is a way to pick up your picture directly from your computer because I've never used that option.

I guess that second thread wasn't such a bad idea after all, even though I got snapped at for it :)

If I'd been able to edit with any sort of success, I would have just changed the title to "In case you're wondering where we've gone".

I did notice that h.com actually had a "new member" listed, so maybe they got that part fixed at least! I'm glad, since I really don't want it to die off. It is just really sad that their left hand doesn't know what the right is doing - I'm sure someone in the marketing dept will be ROYALLY peeved when they find out what happened. The absolute best and cheapest possible marketing tool a company has is word-of-mouth, and the constant visual reminder of their store on their forum was a marketing designer's dream come true. Constant access by all ages with a direct interest in your product?? They should have been milking that for all it was worth and gone miles extra to keep the forum up and running. That they didn't implies to me that the store itself may be in some sort of upheaval, which makes me wonder about placing an order there (in the "me" as a customer sort of sense).

WashingtonBay

MsEddi - I'm glad you finally got in.... In your "User CP" you'll find (I hope) a place to make photo albums, if you can make some albums there and upload some pictures, we'll help with how to post them.

The signature can be uploaded directly from the signature area, it will resize it for you but it should be approximately the right shape or it may turn out too small. Cloe can help you with that too if you have trouble, she's sortof the resident expert on it since I haven't actually done it.

Anyhow, now that you're here, we can work out the rest of the details, the hard part's solved. :)

For computer dummies like me there is directions on pict posting in adman- ( support and adminestration)

I gave Cloe the picts (from photobucket) she cut them for my siggy and avator.
I had a lot of trouble with my avator- but there is lots of help here.

(Thanks Bay and Cloe.) I cried when you put my avator in- that was very special.

I still really want some of the h.com members to join ( cough...Hunterseat, cough...shiver) They aren't budging :(

We're going to have to mix up potato salad, saddle up our horses, and go get 'em. We can't have hunter, shiver, and any of the rest of our old friends holed up over there away from us. Family is family and that's that! :):) It's fine if they want to post there and here of course, but we don't leave family behind. Hunter was a marine at one time, she'll understand that. :)

Hunter snapped and bit when we poked her. Somehow we need to lead her here with love. Not sure how to do that- but I can start with prayer.

I see that she became a little bit offended. I'll ask her as nicely as I know how as well. She was one of the very first to welcome me and I can't imagine not corresponding with her. She doesn't need to move here, but I sure wish that she (and everyone else) would at least join us.

cheval
10-08-2008, 08:17 AM
She did get irate about it. Which is surprising. I would have thought she'd be honored that so many people want her over here. And people can be at both places. Same with Shiver - they both need to get there booties over here and play.

Even if they got it all fixed up over there, this place is the new home for me. It has more stuff to do than on any other forum I've been on.

Hunter will read over here but not sign in. Maybe I'll ask her to read my post?

Maybe I'll ask her to go to my private place and look at my photoalbum?

Yes, we should get Hunter over here. She also welcomed me when I first joined h.com. She actually talked me into staying! And Shiver remembers everything about everyone! They both need to pop in here and say HI. They don't have to give up h.com, but at least come play with their friends.

This makes me laugh - I picture you rubbing your hands together and laughing diabolically! Are you sure she reads over here? I was thinking about how sometimes I will read at h.com but NOT sign in UNTIL there is some post that I just have to comment on. Sooo I'm trying to think what Hunter could read over here that would just make her want to log on really bad in order to comment! Yeah, the reactions totally surprised me! I could understand not wanting to leave a family forum to join a whole new forum filled with new people, but this is just a new home FILLED with everyone we know and TONS of ammentities! It's like they are all loyally stuck to a site that doesn't give a care about them just because it's the site they joined however many years ago. WE make the family not Horse.com! I keep lurking over the withthe occasionaly post because I learned alot from HUnter and Shiver when I first started. But I just feel more welcomed here.
There are a few members over there (no one we have mentioned) that just rub me the wrong way and they tend to target me, I am glad they haven't moved over here, yet I do wish Hunter/shiver and Ex would but I am not going to force it upon them. I will come to them if I have too. :D
Shiver, was unbelievably supportive of my when we were going through the loss of Hope and the loss of my sister's mare, Leah that I can't just walk away from her. I mean everyone made me feel better but Shiver just seemed to go that extra step.

That's the question. :innocent:

Thanks for doing that.

If they delete it I'd have to ask, why are they trying to keep people from leaving?

If your horses are starving from neglect and keep breaking into the neighbor's field just to eat, the answer is not just better fencing. Either invest something in them, or let them go.

mtnmollie
10-08-2008, 05:02 PM
A day or two ago they had 6,000 plus members. Now they have 1,000 or so.
I think the numbers are inflated.

They lost 200+ and have 30 - 50 left or less.

That's quite a drop. I'm glad they broke- because this place is so fun! :cowboy:

What's really got me curious is their logged-in user to "guest" ratio.

I mean the number of registered users online there has gone down, and many of those who are logged in over there are registered here as well. But their number of guests and lurkers is still in the many hundreds, while ours here is pretty low still, as a proportion.

I just think it's interesting that that many people are just looking at the site right now, while not much is happening. Who are those people?

cheval
10-08-2008, 05:26 PM
I've always wondered who those people are.

I asked why the Mods wanted your link deleted. I'm sure it will be some lame excuse about competition.

The Einsteins in upper management of h.com don't get the fact that if the forum is lost, so could a lot of the customers be. That shows a lack of caring. Why should I buy from them?

WB's you should get your own Baywind Store up and going.

I just think it's interesting that that many people are just looking at the site right now, while not much is happening. Who are those people?

I'll bet that a lot of it has to do with the fact that they have the awesome horse.com domain name. Can't get much more horsey than that for a name. So, my guess is that they get a lot of traffic to the forum as a result of people around the world checking out horse.com.

WashingtonBay

Hey now... that actually sounds like real work

What's remarkable is how little investment it really took to get this forum up and running and it's paid up now for a year. A few hundred bucks and some time (cheaper if you're already paying for webhosting). A tiny investment for a company to make.

That's a really good point, Mandzanita. Horse.com gave us a really nice place to hang out, but we became a "family" on our own. That's why none of us were completely satisfied when we left and went to the two other forums. The other forums were so welcoming, but we were split up and it was really hard. Now we have a place where we can all be happy (or unhappy, but still together :)). I just hope we can convince those last few holdouts to at least come join us once in awhile.

I'd say we leave those threads alone. They don't want a part of this forum and that's fine. I browse h.com a couple times a day but this is definately my new "home". You can do both. There has to be some underlying reasons that we are not privy to as to why they won't come over. I feel badly that h.com lost so many members too but to me, it's about the people you come to know and not who runs the forum.

Agreed with all that Cheval!

Well thanks all for your help letting people know about the forum and encouraging them to come over, but I think we've done what we can.

At least there's a few links up that people can find, and we're starting to show up on google searches of forms of the name in case those links get pulled too and people try to look for us later but can't quite remember the name. In fact just googling "WashingtonBay's Forum" now finds it pretty near the top, below some of my other posts at other forums, so either way perhaps people who are looking can find me.

Yeah, it makes me sad that everyone hasn't come over. My biggest fear is that the horse.com forum will tank completely and we will loose our friends. I want them to at least register here, or bookmark, something... So, if something bad happens they can know where to come. Especially hunter... I wouldn't say that I totally washed my hands of that forum but I don't have the time to keep up between this, that & other ones that I belong to in reference to other activities that I do. It's just too much. I tend to not bother myself with the forum after it crashed & realize it wasn't making any progress. Why take the time when it's all "jacked" up. The "owners" of the forum should of known with out answers or progress people were going to leave or find new places.

I, too, was shocked at the fact that some people where getting mad about "you all" asking them to come over. You would think that they would want to stay in touch with AT least some people. Oh well maybe someday soon they'll find their way. It's a shame to loose some of the people but maybe we'll catch up with them later. They can find us if they want!

IMHO this site is great and thanks Washington 4 doing this and getting the group wrangled back up. Its nice to come back to a familiar home! I am enjoying my other forum too but this is def. MY kind of place!!

I just never thought they'd have taken it the wrong way about people wanting them to come over, even after people said they could be at both places.

Yeah- I feel like have been slapped in that one thread. Wow.
Not the first time i've been slapped on that board.

ouch.

"I visit all the time! Looks like a party! " - Hunter. Shiver too admits to this.

You know who always slaps me the most? Christian people. Why is that?
I have never figured that out. LOL.

I want to catch all the peeps like me who left the board but would check in- sometimes... YIkes! Where's gunslinger? Did he make it? Was that his name? He taught us how to heal bad wounds.
Guns is on Ex's board... or at least he was the last time I checked. He talked a lot about other boards he was on (one for driving horses) but I don't know the names of them. I miss him too... it was shortly after the leg wound thing (a "wound expert":rolleyes:was one that helped push him over the edge to leave...) that he was gone.

Unfortunately, you have to be invited to get onto Ex's board and if you don't log on in a certain amount of time you are deleted. I tried to log on there a couple days ago and I no longer exist. Maybe if you just do a google search for Gunslinger one of his posts from somewhere will pop up? Was he in Oklahoma or Arkansas?

Guns is in Oklahoma. Certainly if anyone runs into him let him know he'd be welcome here. :)

IMHO, debate is part of life on a forum, and it's pretty easy to rub someone the wrong way or get our own hackles up... we all have to remember to try to temper our arguments and learn when to call it a draw. We may debate vigorously one day on one subject, but on another thread, we may find something in common or need something that they know. We won't know that if we run them out the door. And that goes for everyone :)

I put the link to this forum in my h.com profile. Maybe if someone gets to looking around they'll find it.
I really love this forum! Personally I never felt very welcomed over there, it just to me seem cold and harsh. Sometimes I felt welcomed, others I didn't. This board, the people here, etc. seem much more friendly and it feels like you can breathe. I don't know what it is, but to me that's how it seems. It's like you can go *sighs* and breathe without feeling like it's cold or something. Maybe I'm the only one who felt like an outsider, but that's how it was to me. I love this place here and don't plan on going back to h.com unless they fix it. It's got to many broken pieces. If you have a game with broken pieces that messes up the way the game is played, are you gonna wanna play that game as much if any? I wouldn't.

Thanks to the Wb's once again! Awesome awesome job!

I don't know if it's me or if this has happened to others. I check back there maybe once a day. Since not much is going on I don't have anything to offer. Every single time I go there my computer shuts itself off. Has that happened to anyone else? If it happened once I'd think it was just the computer being stupid like it is sometimes but this is every time I go there. I won't be checking that forum any more because it seems like the site and my computer don't like each other. I really don't know.

I haven't asked anyone to leave since it seems everyone's mind is set to be loyal over there for reasons only they know. They are happy so I guess we need to be happy for them. I didn't expect people to be so mad about being asked to join over here. I did tell one friend from there how nice it is here and then it will be up to her to join or not, I hope she does since she's alot of fun.

It would be interesting to know if it's just my computer or if anyone else has issues when they go to check the other forum? Chances are it's just this computer, it's so touchy about things!

oursarge - my computer doesn't actually shut down, but after I have viewed one or two threads over at h.com it bogs the internet down. I will try to move forward a page in a thread and it will do the "Loading..." thing for awhile, then it will give me a page load error. Unfortunately, it then makes all the other website tabs I have open also cycle to loading and page load error, so I keep having to restart the browser.

I agree - it has moved past irritating passive nuisance (no pms, edit, etc) and into active nuisance (actually causing me repeated internet connection issues, even with my cable internet - I hate to think how it would be on dialup!). I have pretty much given up going over there at all due to that, and I haven't been logging in at all - much less actually POSTING (which is so difficult now as to be absolutely ridiculous and mostly pointless to even try).

What good is a forum if it's quiet? People are saying how they like it because it is quiet. What's the point on being on a quiet forum.

I still don't get their bad attitude about people leaving and wanting the others to join in. I was surprised by Broken A's response. Makes me feel like crap for even caring about anyone left over there. Like it was a stupid thing to do. Who get's insulted about people wanting to stay in touch via forum?

Why is it insinuated we don't have a life because we hang out on the computer (I do in the evening after the barn and before I head out).

My original reason for starting that poor misbegotten thread was exactly what WB said - not to do or say anything related to people who were not interested in coming, but just to tell people who DIDN'T KNOW where everyone else had gone to! I know if I had just popped on over there after a long time off I would wonder what had happened.

The only good thing about it getting such constant postings is that it has stayed near the top (one of the few daily posting items they currently have there) so that people visiting are bound to read it (I did notice that the General section still has yesterday's news on it).

Maybe a s p a c e d o u t web address wouldn't be noticed if they are doing a keyword search? At this point, though, even 1 moderator could keep up with the posts going on over there so the posts themselves might be read in full.

Gotta watch for stragglers!! Not everyone hates us!!! (and I have no idea why anyone got upset really. . . so strange.

Too bad the powers that be at the main company didn't notice. . .maybe they would fix the place for those that stayed!! They deserve it with their loyalty! I joined a new forum - D board this week. We were part of a stampeed that left the old broken forum at country supply- horse.com. Our link is Baywind Farm.

Come and visit sometime. Over 200 active ueser stampeeded from the broken board to the new home, leaving 30 or so of our friends behind. This new forum is awsome- best horse D board on the net I have found. We have a room for groups, a place to downlaod our picts from our computer and many awesome bells an whistles. Come on over to our campfire.
