View Full Version : New update on Jake's condition

Unfortunately, there has been very little progress with his condition- the aneurysm hasn't started dissolving, and he's only had one day free of dialysis since they started with it, He did not have it yesterday, and his creatinine levels spiked up to 8.0.
On top of this, his respiration stays way too high when they take him off sedation. They're now talking about putting in a trach tube.
I will be heading to Fargo very soon, as I have to do something that's going to be really hard.
Apparently, the hospital has determined that I have the right to decisions about Jake's care. My godparents will be going with me, and we will be meeting with the doctors for what they call a care conference. One of the decisions I will be making is whether to do a do not rescusitate (sp?) order. Ugh.:(

I'm am very sorry. In my experience if it's the right thing to do, you don't feel conflicted about it.
I really think you need to go there and spend time. You'll know.

I'll be thinking of you--it might be the toughest decision you will ever make, and I'm very sorry that you are having to face making it. I support you, no matter what decision you make.

I'm so sorry Gypsy. I've been in a similar situation but it was my Mom making the decisions. My Step-Dad was in a terrible car accident and was in a coma for over 2 months. When he came out of it he had a trach tube, a stomach tube, a main line for drugs and we didn't think he'd ever be 'normal' again. Then he lost most of his windpipe to MRSA. He had so many surgeries to remove part of his windpipe that he barely has any left. Hang in there. He made a wonderful recovery though it took lots of time. I hope your SO makes the same journey safely!

I know how helpless you feel, I'm glad you have your Godparents and friends to go with you to the hospital. When my mom was in CCU I was there by myself and I remember how hard it was and it was so overwhelming...
just take each day as it comes and I am praying for Jake to improve.
I'm so sorry. I would be falling apart. Thoughts and prayers to both of you.

I don't have TIME, lol! If I'm not on here, I'm on the phone, which gives you all an idea of how much the phone's been ringing.
If I'm logged in, but you don't se activity, that's what's happening, lol! I haven't gotten the knack yet of typing and talking at the same time!
Seriously, I am extremely lucky.
The friend that got me out of the house last weekend, and who is going to try to go to Fargo- if his work will let him off- went to school with Jake, and I've known him for 23 years. He's also very level headed and good in a crisis, which helps a lot.
Somehow, I will get through this in one piece.
I really thank all of you for being here for me- it means so much!

Oh my, I am so sorry that things have not gone as well as we all hoped. I am sorry that you have such a tough decision to make. I am glad you have some support with you. My mom had a devastating stroke and we had to decide what to do and in the end my dad, brother and sister, cousin and myself had life support removed after 3 days. It was a joint decision and I was so glad for that. I would not have made my dad decide on his own for anything. We knew she would have hated being on machines but it was a tough thing to do. God bless you and you are in my prayers.

Just popping on to see if you had any updates.... maybe take part of a day to do nothing, just stuff for yourself.....don't answer the phone, take a break, and go soak in the tub and dump some bubble bath in it, and put on some soothing music!

The conference is set for Friday at 1 PM.
While he was at it, my godfather got the latest update- Jake's actually sitting up in bed, and is able to repeat back words, though it doesn't seem like he knows what he's really saying- just copying.
At least we wil have a little better idea on his mental status when we go out there.
Hopefully, things will start turning around for the better, now, though I know that anything can happen still- especially with that clot still sitting there.
As for my van, it was taken to a garage yesterday, and the news I got back wasn't good- it has everything I thought was wrong with it- guess I haven't lost some of my mechanical abilities, lol- and more. It could cost up to $1000 to fix.
Not worth it- I only paid $450 for it- it's going for scrap.
I do have help in finding another vehicle, so no worries on the financial end- it just may be a week or so, what with the holiday, before I can find the right one.
