Need some good ideas for a fun day a freind is hosting next summer. Besides barrels and pole-bending, what are some fun games? :cowboy:

That game with the egg.. where you have to carry it on the end of a spoon across the arena and back without dropping it. :D On a horse.

Um, I've never been to a fun day, just barrels/poles. Can you guys post the rules of the fun games you mentioned? Thanks!

Big panty race! Basically same theory as a down and back!
Rider enters arena on horse, runs to the other end of the arena. You can either have the pantys on a barrel, on the ground, hung on the end rail, someone holding them, etc. And the person has to dismount at the end, put on the pantys, remount their horse and run back!
The pantys are supposed to be the biggest, ugliest, funniest panties you can find at walmart/kmart/dollar store! Silky ones are funny because they're slippery when they try to put them on!
Other things to think about are, if this is with kids, you can have someone at the end to hold the horse while they put the panties on. It can also be done in stations, where you ride like a barrel pattern and at one point you put on the panties, at the next you put on a big old bra, at the next a nighty, getting on and off at each point! Also you can substitute these items for 'less riskee' items if it's children!

I'm a BIG fan of the potato race!!!! Sterling and i rock that event!! Lol. We also did key hole, straight away barrels, arena race, and quad stakes. There is also ride a buck (bear back fun!), 'champagne' race, and flag race. Lots and lots of stuff you can do!
I won't do any events where you have to dismount. So keep that in mind for the old fogies and young young uns. Seems to me people get more frantic when dismounting is involved and their horses get spookier, and act up more. Just my opinion on that. . .

Hey my horse is mischievous and I think he would like to play some games. He takes my things - for example I had my scarf laying on the round pen and he picked it up and tossed it around watching me until I saw him and went to get my scarf. He played with it until I got near then dropped it and ran, with a twinkle in his eye! Funny boy. What games should I play with him to keep his sense of play and humor going?

HANGMAN'S RACE!
Start riding double across start line...run to other end of arena where a rope is hung (we use a utility truck)...rider on back (hangman) grabs rope & hangee runs to & around barrel placed about at the center of the arena & runs back to get hangman....when hangman is straddeling horse you can race back to the start/finish line. 5 sec penalty if barrel is knocked over, DQ if hangman touches ground.
The panty race will be my suggestion if ever put in charge of an event! LOL

I love the ribbon race! Get a partner who's horse your horse can stand, get some orange caution tape and you both hold onto an end and race around the arena! LOVE IT!!!
You have to make sure everyones ribbon is basicallly the same length, ( doesn't have to be exact ) cut them before hand.
Partners have to be holding the ribbon from the time they hit the timer til they cross on the other side of the arena, usually all the barrels are left standing in cloverleaf pattern and you have to stay on the outside of all three , between barrel and fence.

Oh!! Just saw you need rules posted!! K I'll post the rules for the races I loved the most!!!
Potato Race. (not sure of the distances)
Set up the arena with a Barrel about 3/4 way down in the middle (has a bucket full of dirt with a potato on top, and a trash can about half way out of the arena. (smaller metal ones work best, like the kind a lot of people use for feed)
Run to the left or right of barrel turn it and grab the potato. (no circling the barrel I don't believe, since that breaks the pattern) Return down the arena on the opposite side you ran in on and throw the potato into the trash can. Boy it's hard to explain this stuff with words. I need to go make charts. I'll be back.

You could always get one of those big horse soccer balls and make the horse push it through two cones to score a goal? This would be for adult riders only because some horses are afraid of the soccer ball if they haven't messed with it before.

These are all good games... I didn't see the shoe race... You throw both your shows (all riders parcipating & some extras) at the end of the arena, riders get on their horses at the other end.. When time starts they race to the pile & jump off, get their shoes one & jump back on, race back to the start end!!

Ride your horse down one way, dismount, lead back - or viceversa.
Ride your horse slow as you can one way, quick as possible t'other way.
Ride to the bottom, dismount, and either lead/have someone hold your pony whilst you run around the arena, touching the letters. This could be improvised! Then jump back on when back at your dismount place, and ride back.
Ride down to one end, pick up a bean bag, go back to top, throw bean bag in another bucket! If done in teams, next person can only go if the bean bag gets in the bucket.

Oooo... I forgot one! Redneck Polo!
Obviously we all know the concept of polo, it's just the ball and mallet change. They can be done with numerous things! Mallets can be: brooms, fun noodles, etc (just be safe, ie, no muck forks). And the ball can be any type. The best I've see though was one of the giant yoga balls! These games are really alot of fun! We've done them both mounted and with the horses in hand!
