Some of you may remember I bred Velcro, my hedgehog, for the first time last year and got a beautiful litter of 3 in January. Sadly, my roommate's male died and then I moved home to FL so it seemed like it would be the only one she would ever have, which was sad because she was such a wonderful mom and had the most gorgeous little hoglets.

I found a breeder in my hometown that has a male he is willing to stand for me. I'll be taking Velcro there at the end of the month and she'll stay for about 10 days. With any luck I'll have a litter ready to go for Christmas. Not only do I love having the little ones around, but they make some good money for me as well! ;) Velcro is such a sweet girl and her last litter was so easy to work with, they make the best pets. I love sending them off to their new homes and seeing how happy they make their new families. Velcro has pinto in her background, as does the male, so with some real luck I might end up with some pinto babies. At the very least I'm hoping for some snowflakes, maybe some whites. Velcro herself is a white chocolate, but usually only double whites throw whites. I would just die for some pintos though!

Yay! That's great! Could you post some pictures of all the different colors (sorry, I don't know if 'colors' is the correct term) you mentioned? We had a hedgehog for a little bit, but when we moved to Hawai'i we gave it to a good friend. All I remember is their poo is extremely stinky, lol.

Yep, Velcro is doing great. She is one happy, spoiled little girl. After this litter I'm going to figure out a way to build a second level on her cage to give her more room even though her cage is already huge to begin with...

Julie, I said something on the forum about coming up a few days before I did and then didn't hear back from you so I thought you were busy, lol! It was a really short visit anyways, we got in late Friday and left early Sunday. Hopefully I'll be back up in November, but it may not happen. I'm gonna try though!

Caitlin- Colors with hedgies can be so confusing! To begin with, there's two different sets. Domestic hedgies are a cross between White-Bellied and Algerians and in the cross everything mixed except the colors. They just can't combine. So some hedgies are White-Belly colors and some are Algerian. Velcro is a White-Belly and the male I'm breeding with is Algerian so it will be interesting to see what we get. The thing is, every color you can get in one type, you can get in the other. The differences are Algerians have golden-brown patches under their eyes, darker masks and mottling on their bellies.

Here's a link to a page that has examples of most of the different colors. There are a lot! And they can be so hard to figure out too. http://hedgehogcentral.com/colorguide.shtml

And finally, pictures! I snapped these real quick on my camera phone so their not the best...

Yaaaayyyy - pics of Velcro.... I just love that cute little girl! I hadn't seen you post about her in so long, and then there was the hamster... and well, I got nervous and was afraid to ask about her. I'm so happy she's still with us and get's to be a mom again!

Haha, the hamster.... I thought I posted a Velcro pic at the bottom of one of the hamster threads. The one about getting a hamster, not about it missing, lol. Twinkie (the hamster) and Velcro are actually afraid of each other. They're constantly startling each other because their cages are right next to each other. Velcro will hiss and puff up at her all the time.
Twinkie has actually discovered that it's really fun to get going really fast on her wheel and then stop and let it flip her upside down a couple times... Velcro doesn't like the noise that makes at all.

Well leave it to me to have missed that important part!

My kind of animal - I love the crazy ones that keep you laughing!:)

Have there been pics of Twinkie? I missed them if there were...

Twinkie (that is the BEST name) has little white eyebrows! I love her... must not look at her photo too long or I will want one and hubby will KMA if I bring home one more animal!

Yeah, she's a Robo hamster and they all have little eyebrows. The way I'm holding her in the one pic makes her look at least twice as big as she really is. I can hold her comfortably in one fist normally. She kept getting out of the cage I originally bought her so now she lives in a 66 quart plastic sstorage bin with a tiny wheel, igloo, and toilet paper rol and is happy as a clam. She's probably the cheapest pet I've ever owned. That's including all my betta fish too!

How much do hedgies for for? Price wise. I'm curious.

It depends on where you live mostly. Hedgies are illegal in some states to own, some states they're illegal to breed, some states (like mine) they're totally legal. If there are a lot of breeders in your area, you might see prices around $150 for decent colored babies. You can usually find cheaper juveniles/adults on craigslist and other similar sites.
When I had my litter last year in AL I sold for $200 each. I'll probably ask the same here. Many breeders price according to color, with pintos going for the most. All my babies turned out similar colors so I didn't bother with that. If I get a pinto though, I'll probably ask $220 at least.

Of course you can, lol. Especially since you're where the White-Bellied species originally comes from! There are pics up already, so hopefuly you can see them eventually.

Thanks Remali! I love them both too. I'm not allowed to have a dog so they're my babies. I bring the family dog up to visit sometimes though, lol.

I will make sure to post baby pics as soon as I get them. Check in around December!
