Good morning! Sure wish I had some Krispy Kremes. I'm having oatmeal for breakfast, but that's better than yesterday -- I had a can of corn.

I really need to fix up a new home for the baby quail this morning. It won't be long until they're jumping out of the box. I saw a couple of eggs wobbling in the incubator, so I might have a few more before long. They're so tiny!

Caveman and my niece took off early this morning to go antelope hunting again. Only three days left of the season. It looks to me like you need to get one on the first day, or you're just s.o.l. The antelope are getting really spooky. I don't see any in the neighbor's pasture this morning, so they probably won't send me on another antelope round-up. I must have walked four miles yesterday.

Have a good day!

I need to go for an oil change and then run some errands in town. I really need to get a ride in on Dude but I never know how my time is. I think we're going on a club ride on Monday.

I posted this in the wrong section........still finding my way around.;) Thanks Cloe for letting me know where the morning thread is........

Lovely mornings these nice fall days, warms up in the afternoon into the mid 70's. I miss being able to open my windows at night, can't do it because it aggravates my sinuses.

Picking Kabota up today, vet called last night and he is doing well. Thank goodness we have a handicapped ramp on our front porch, I knew it would come in handy sooner or later. Vet called, she said he is doing really well, ate something and is wagging his tail and looking for attention. I miss him so much! Sitting here WTIME just thinking about my big baby boy. Will pick him up after work tonight. Dr. Small said he will need assistance getting around for a while until he heals from the surgery and the fracture in his pelvis may make him not want to poop for a few days but otherwise he should be fine...........

Going to get him a new bed and some soft food, she said that would probably help his stomach adjust. This picture of him in the bed is NOT his bed, it is Muffin's bed but he likes it........
Kabota............we miss you!

Hubby made us egg, cheese and bacon English Muffins this morning. Yummy..............my tummy has been on the sour side so hopefully this will not make it worse . Also had my DanActive Probiotic drink and will have my PromiseActiv shortly. Oh and the usual coffee with 1/2 and 1/2. If I can't have my 1/2 and 1/2 I would just as soon not have coffee. I say I like coffee in my cream.

Still working on getting Ludicris moved, waiting on my neighbors to give me the go ahead. I have not been able to see him at all which is not good but with everything else, it is what it is............that will definitely change once he is next door instead of 30 minutes from home.

PS...this is not *his* bed, it is Muffin's but that didn't stop him from taking it over. LOL.

Didn't a chance to get on here but yesterday morning I found FROST in certain spots (windsheild, tarp, a few spots in the grass)! WOO HOO! I cannot wait until the flies freeze & die! It's been lovely weather & I've actually been riding just a tad more. Was hoping to get away for the weekend but it looks like Dad will still be baling (lots of custom stuff) & needing help so guess those plans are shot... just part of it. Soon he'll be slowing down & then I will get more free weekends; just hope to make it to the mountains sometime to enjoy the fall colors! We're also gearing up for corn harvest here - can't wait until I can take a run through that stubble! Corn stalks make an awesome sound when being ran through ;)

I also finally got my for sale sign up for the house. Got 1 call so far. At least there's a bit of interest...*crossing fingers for quick sale*

Off to work. Have a good hump day everyone!

:p Another day in paradis! :) Nothing crazy or exciting going on today, gonna finish breakfast (protien bar and tall glass of water) then take Vicor for a walk. We're going to go to the bridle path for the first time so hopefully he won't act like a TB and jump in my lap! Still getting headaches off and on but it's not a constant throbbing so I will be back to riding this weekend!

Mum-I must have missed what happened to Kabota :( I hope he recovers quickly.

Hi MsE! I hope your forum issues are resolved soon, I miss you! :)

I stayed in my room all morning to avoid the stress that is... here. But I've since ventured out into the world. Now, I recognize that my grandmother is trying to control things in her world right now... but telling me that I can't take trash because I don't know the right way to do it is completely ridiculious. I'm almost 21 years old, I think I can put all the bags into the back of my truck, drive to the dump (which I know exactly where is), pay $1 a bag and dump them into the compactor... it doesn't exactly take a genius. Save me?:help:

I have complete faith in you that you can go to the dump yourself.........:)
It is just a control thing, hun, it is what old folks do when they feel like their lives are out of control. Can you sneak out with the trash? LOL....

I meant to tell you but I was so sad over Kabota that I couldn't post....your skunk catching tips was one of the funniest things I have read in a long, long while..........can you repost it for me? I need a chuckle.:hysterical:

Can I ask you a question? Was there alcohol involved when they came up with that?
And the funniest thing is that you were totally serious and actually know people who did it that way.......you have got to video tape that next time because you would win the big prize on America's Funniest Home Video or Redneck Videos. I really want to come down for your next family reunion, I have GOT to meet these folks!

Mornin everyone :) It's my late day today so I'm going to run some errands before work, including a stop at Jamba Juice for something tasty ;)

No riding for me today, was out until late last night riding until dark. We did our first jumping course and he was having a ball! Threw a little yippee leaps but it was fun. People were driving by on there way to feed there horse's dinner and giving me those "this girl is crazy to ride in the dark" look. I was jumping in the light, cooling down in the dark but it was nice and peaceful!

Good thoughts going your way cloedoll, keep us updated on the echo!

Thanks for the faith Mary. I'm becoming more understanding of the control thing - she's let go of a lot of them (she let me sweep down cobwebs without supervision other day ;)), so I've decided she can carry her own trash. It would just be less frustrating if she didn't tell me I didn't know how. "I want to do it" would suffice, ya know?

And sure thing! Nope, no one in our family really drinks (anymore) other than teenage antics from the elder two of the boys now... we were just this creative (read: bored). :D My Aunt and Mom and I won't let my uncle or my Dad shoot a skunk they catch in a humane trap becuase it was THEIR fault they caught him - he was hungry so he'd gone in to eat the food in there. With three women against five men... we won. :D

Now, without further ado... the proper way to release a caught skunk without causing it any physical anguish (mental, however, may be another story).

What you have to do is find a male that will turn it loose if you act damsel-in-distress-y. In my family this is my father or my eldest cousin (he's almost 18 now). If you were closer I'd send one of them your way. http://forum.horse.com/image/s2.gif

However, since none of us are close enough to come to your rescue... take a big sheet of plastic (or one of those big plastic drums with the top and bottom cut out) and hold it infront of you (or with the drum, get inside). This is your defense. Carry a big stick with you - it helps if you practice opening an empty trap with the stick first (or one with a brick in it for some weight) beforehand, but not all of us have this luxury. It helps if the stick has a thick V in the top half to catch the opener more easily. You can just cut an itty bitty V notch just bigger than the wire in the top so it'll catch and not break.

Stay inside the barrel (or behind the plastic), sneak up very slowly and very quietly so you don't startle it. You can have someone make noise about 30-40 feet in the other direction to keep its attention if you want... this rarely works. If the plastic does get sprayed (which it probably will) you may or may not vomit... so do expect it to smell that strongly. http://forum.horse.com/image/s4.gif

You can always get it to spray before you go out there... but then you have to make sure not to step in it, and there's no real guarantee that it doesn't have any left. If the plastic gets sprayed, you might smell funny for a day or two, but it won't be as bad as YOU think it is. Most people won't notice. http://forum.horse.com/image/s4.gif

How's that? And yeah, it's absolutely hilarious from the safety of the front porch. :innocent:

ALOK, sometimes people give too much commentary when they say things. Instead of saying "you don't know how" maybe "you don't know how to do it the way "I" like it done" would be better. To some people, there is only one way to do things and that is their way. Don't let it bug you or take it personal. Just let them do it. Those kind of folks don't usually understand that they only make life harder on themselves when they won't let people do things "their own way" because it isn't the way they would do it.. My way isn't necessarily the only right way to do something. In the end the same goal is acheived.

Oh my gosh do I have an update for you! Soooo....

Sure enough a couple nights later we catch another skunk in one of his stupid traps. The night before I was acting VERY damsel in distressy to my BF and he finally said that if we caught another one he would find a way to safely let it go down the road. Skunks weren't our main focus here...coons were.

So he tapes up the holes in the front, tapes a long string to the latch, loads the cage in the back of his truck and drives maybe about a mile away. He sets the cage down, pulls the string and the skunk comes out calmly and wattles away...easy as pie.

So then the trap-guy comes about an hour later and sees that his traps have been messed with and starts tripping out. My boyfriend goes out to talk to him. Next thing I know I hear the guy just dropping F bombs left and right and yelling at my BF. Seriously acting like a 5 year old throwing a tanturm. He was like "Don't f'ing touch these traps!!" "It's a federal offence to f'ing touch my traps!!" My boyfriend was like "Man you need to calm down, the girls were upset that you were killing the animals" and he continues to completely lose it. He then tells my boyfriend to shut the F up that this is his job and he has written permission to do this.

I'm afradi they are going to get in a fight so I walk out with my heart pounding and I'm so pissed! I go "Where in the world do you get off talking to him like this! You were hired to trap and relocate these animals, it was made VERY clear that you would not kill or hurt them. If it was known that you were going to gas them in the back of your damn truck you would NOT have been hired. I want you to load your traps up and get the hell off our property NOW! So that's just what he did. He got all flustered and started throwing his traps around and ended up breaking one which made me and my BF laugh. Havn't seen or heard from him again. Later I found out that we was charging my cousin $100 per animal trapped! No wonder he was pissed, lol. She thought it was $100 for the whole job...anyway, no more skunk killing my hood :p

Whoohoo Mandi! I'm happy for you - your story made me smile. :D You know... you can buy your own humane traps and do it yourself. TSC has them for about $20 (http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay_10551_10001_29256_-1______?rFlag=true&cFlag=1). We have a half dozen. Most are in the garage incase we start having problems with raccoons or something... but we have one open out front "to see what we get *rolls eyes*. Your BF has proven he has the skill! ;)

10-08-2008, 01:35 PM
I felt so bad for him! I mean first I make him get up at 6am to release a skunk and then he gets chewed out by a crazy dude! I was thinking we could totally just be doing this ourselves but my cousin was convinced this guy knew what he was doing and he had a place all set aside to release them... yeah to heaven by way of gass chamber truck. He had these cool plastic walled traps so that if you got a skunk they couldn't skunk you...do they sell those too?

alittleoffkey
10-08-2008, 01:45 PM
I've never seen any with closed sides but you could probably find them somewhere... or you could just cover one of the cage-metal ones with solid wood/plastic/metal. :)

Oops! I keep meaning to tell ya'll - I saved a little foot and a half long King snake this afternoon. He got on my grandmother's glue-trap in the garage and my grandfather pitched a huge fit about wanting to kill him (mainly because I wouldn't let him) and I took him out into the woods and got him off the board (with vege oil). When he finally pulled free he turned around, looked at me, stuck out his tongue then slithered off into the woods. :)
