Seems we've got more legislation restricting, limiting, law-abiding tax-paying citizens from keeping & bearing arms than all of the other Rights put together. :cowboy:

Especially in California where you are.

I'm happy to say that gun law here in Washington is pretty reasonable compared to other places, I think we have fewer restrictions than Texas.

folks tend to forget that the constitution limits the government not the people. and that the primary purpose of the 2nd amendment is to protect our selves from a overbearing and corrupt government. in every oppressive government the steps are always the same, disarm the citizenry, deny them the right to gather, and shutdown free speech.

By far, Americans, including the Supreme Court in a recent landmark decision, support the rights of individuals to own guns. This comes up often, but I honestly don't see it as a problem. If a law-abiding adult citizen in the U.S. wants a gun, he/she can buy one.

Nobody is going to take away American's guns. It comes up at election time to scare people into voting against certain candidates, but it's not a real issue.

rocknK

JB, not exactly true here in CA. There's a whole bunch of firearms that I'm prohibited from owning that are perfectly acceptable in the rest of the USA.

WashingtonBay
10-09-2008, 08:12 AM
I think people in California and New York City and a few other places around the country (including those in that recent landmark decision in DC) might disagree with you on how "at risk" their gun rights are, but overall, I think you're right, most places in the country wouldn't stand for it. Even here in WA, which has a fairly liberal reputation, more "gun control" legislation has not been a popular idea.

But we have to keep reminding people when they do get ideas.

rocknK,
But you aren't prohibited from owning firearms entirely, are you?

I don't have a problem with restrictions on assault weapons, armor piercing bullets, and so on. I've never felt that prohibiting the sale of those types of weapons would lead to restrictions on all firearms. The Second Amendment is just too ingrained in the U.S. culture. It's just not a real problem. I'll bet that well over 90% of Americans (including both major presidential candidates this year, by the way) support the Second Amendment.

I agree with you. But in a modern world that they couldn't even begin to imagine, I don't see anything wrong with regulating guns. Not banning them, regulating them. The problem is that the NRA takes the position that any step towards regulation sets you on a slippery slope to banning them, so now compromises are allowed.

Yes and Yes. I agree. They can make laws till they puke, but I WILL NOT give up my guns. I'm sure a lot of ignorant well meaning people have thier reasons for taking away guns, but until you can change human nature, people will kill people, even if they have to use ball bats. Don't delete them, Mollie!

IMHO, you do not have to worry about anyone taking away your 2nd amendment rights. The states and cities are given jurisdiction for their elected officials to make laws that they feel is a betterment for the majority of the people. You don't like the laws, move.........

I don't agree with all the laws imposed on me but by being a law abiding citizen I follow them. Most of them anyway........

Like Mollie said, if they take away the 2nd amendment rights, are the others up for grabs as well? What about the 15? Or the 18th? or one of my personal favorites, the 5th?

Like JackieB said, this topic comes up around election time to get people riled up, but anyone sworn to uphold the constitution of the US would not in their right mind, try to appeal the 2nd amendment.

I did have one more thought. Fred the Jew left Austria. His family died there.
His mother saw a storm comming, but his father did not.

I said Fred, How do you see the storm.
He said If you look- you will see it.
I said - where do you look?
he said- you will find where to look.

And he said Mollie, 80- 90 per cent or more of the people will never see the storm comming.
You can't convince them its comming either.

In Kansas you get down in a shelter when the storm hits.
Hunker down and wait it out. Storms pass. This is life.

This is from my forum friend. Its kinda long but worth the read maybe.

Bail out

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Someone emailed this to me and I like the idea

I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.

Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a 'We Deserve It Dividend'.

To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bon-a-fide U.S. Citizens 18+.

Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a 'We Deserve It Dividend'.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let's assume a tax rate of 30%.

Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband and wife has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved.
Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads
Put away money for college - it'll be there
Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car - create jobs
Invest in the market - capital drives growth
Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves
Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean - or else

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.

If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( "vote buy" ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG - liquidate it.
Sell off its parts.
Let American General go back to being American General.
Sell off the real estate.
Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.

Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.

Sure it's a crazy idea that can "never0A work."

But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!

How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion 'We Deserve It Dividend' more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC .

And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Ahhh...I feel so much better getting that off my chest.

Kindest personal regards,

mtnmollie

I LOVE living in the state of Georgia! They keep making it easier for those of us who legally carry weapons to do so! They just legalized those of us who have carry and conceals to carry our guns onto public transportation (like Marta - so those of us who have legally been leaving our guns at home or in the car for years can now be just as armed as those who haven't ;)), on public property (not courtrooms, but things like parks) and into restaruants. They're also trying to make it legal to have guns in your vehicle when you're on college property.

I turn 21 in 8 days... and I don't care about going out and partying... I just want to get my CCL. :)

I deer hunt with a custom rifle chambered in 260 Ackley Improved. Also have a German made air rifle, a Beeman, for shooting starlings and sparrows here in town that try to kill my purple martins and bluebirds. Only thing I use my shotgun for is clays and turkey hunting.

What do you guys hunt with?

Edited to add: ....to be more specific, I only kill European starlings and English House sparrows......no native birds. These birds are not native to America and every wildlife department I'm aware of recommends they be destroyed.

I found some information regarding his grizzly research online. Amazing thing that Internet. Your husband is quite a man. How did you meet him if you don't mind me asking?

What does your husband think of bigfoot? I got the impression from the bit that I read about his grizzly sightings that his reputation was one of utmost care and honesty. The he would not have reported a grizzly sighting or sign if there was any doubt. So, how about bigfoot?

I haven't ever traveled through the area where you live, but I was a bit surprised that grizzly bears were completely extirpated from the Bitterroots (or thought to be) in the first place. They have been in Yellowstone and the Tetons all along. Is there not a suitable corridor between there and the Bitterroot mountains?

The article I was reading said that the state officially downplayed grizzly sightings, but your husband took them seriously all along. I can see the Michigan DNR doubting mountain lions because the closest known populations are a heck of a long ways away and over the Great Lakes! But it doesn't seem like grizzlies in a wilderness in Idaho should be that controversial. But like I said, I don't understand the geography, either.
