I thought I'd post a thread for people to report new things they've learned how to do on this forum. I admit I'm still learning my own way around this format and have not yet explored all the buttons to see where they go!

New posts

I use this a lot to see all the new posts on the forum without having to look in each subforum individually.

User CP

This is your little control panel for all your "stuff", including a listing of all the threads you've subscribed to, if there are new comments there. Good way to check back and see if anyone has responded to a post you made or wanted to keep track of.

Groups

I'm glad to see people have been starting Social Groups (http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/group.php). It will be interesting over time to see how those work and how people use them. Anyone can make a group, and I think they can be either public or private. I admit I haven't had time to join any or check them out much, but perhaps someday soon!

Photo Albums

I think people have also begun loading pictures to their own albums, both to post, and to display on their profile pages. That's cool.

The quick upload of attachments on each reply will work fine too, for things we may want to post only once, or where a thumbnail view will be good enough, but to store and post full size images to keep and maybe use again later, either make and use the photo albums, or your own host album at photobucket or the like.

Avatars and Signatures

You can upload pictures of any size to these places, and the software will resize it to the maximum size for you. I know that will make things easier for a lot of people.

Keep in mind though, that you'll want the picture proportion to be close (roughly square for avatars, rectangular for signatures) or it may end up smaller than you wanted.

Friends

People have been making "Friends" all over the forum, don't be alarmed if you get such requests to be "friends", it doesn't hurt a thing to be listed as a friend, you're not required to buy them birthday presents or anything:rolleyes:, it just makes it easier for people to contact you and find your posts. There is also a setting for people who will only allow private messages from friends, I think.

Quick Links

This is a menu full of cool toys... you can find the group listing there, you can find out who's online and what they are looking at (a bit of a Peeping Tom feel to that :innocent:), and you can open a "Contacts Popup" and see which of your friends is online, and click a box to send a private note to all or some of them at once.

Kinda nifty.... what other things have you all found in browsing around and exploring things?

I love the group feature and the photo albums!!! I also love that we have more myspace style profiles with comments and what not. It makes everything more social and more "homey" and personalized. Good Job to the WB's!!!!!!

I like the quick links- you don't have to go through a lot of steps to get where you want to be, a real plus when you have a slow computer, lol!

I LOVE the ability to subscribe to threads so they show up when you click User CP. I always lose track of my favorite threads, but now I can keep track of them. The software rocks WB!!! :)

Here's a question from me, for those of you who are already participating in groups...

Does the system notify you when there have been new messages in your group?

I found out that there is a profile chat and that it's not a PM. hahahah lol :) See again, I told you guys I don't know this program from a box of beans (not horse beans!!! Yuck!)

It will take me a while to figure all this stuff out. I did load a few pics to my album so I got that down :) I catch on fast but it is a big difference in programs, options and were to find stuff. Way more options that I don't even know if I will ever figure out or use but hey I'm just happy everyone is still together no matter what program we use. It's nice to know most of the forum came over and joined :)
