I was just wondering how many of us live far away from family or not..
My originally SoCal born PoliSci prof. said that us Clevelanders don't live family behind. We all live within an hour of each other. Which is pretty true and funny that he told us that. I, being a natural born Clevelander, still do live within an hour of all my immediate family on both sides. So do my parents, so do all of their siblings.
I have a hard time thinking I can live further away from my family, especially after my grandpa died, I like it more than ever I live right by my family.
So, how far away do you live from immediate family? Did you move for a job/SO/other?

Since my recent move this is the farthest I have been away from my family (except for the couple of years my parents lived in NM). I'm about an hour from them ;)

Most of my family is within about 5-10 minutes of my house! I have already decided, and my fiance is the same way, we don't want to move out of state because we want to live close to our families!

My in-laws (hubby's family) are my neighbors on one side and two house down on the other. How is that for close? :)
The majority of my family (mom & dad and spouses) live about 45 min away. My sister broke the mold and moved all the way from Wisconsin to Alaska.

Well, I used to live a fourteen hour (on a bad day to fly)/ten hour (on a good day to fly ;)) plane ride away from all of my family. That was when I lived in Hawai'i and yeah, majority of my family lives in Pennsylvania. We might be moving again, though, but currently I'm within two hours of most of my family.
Personally, I like being far away from family...I'm a horrible child, I know. xD

Well I'm one of those who has family ALL over. Family in NY, FL, IL, ID, AZ and NV. My one son is in Korea. So I would say that we have some long distance typing going on.
We are about 8 hours from my family in MI and about 8 hours from my in-laws in WI.

I'm 8 hours away from my parents. My closest brother lives 5 hours away from me and the farthest is 16 hours away from me... we are kinda spread out. Our family philosophy is do what you need to do. I moved away for school and my brothers for jobs. I have one brother that lives in the same town as my parents but that was after traveling everywhere after the marine corp. He wanted a good place to raise his family. I don't think they'll stay there though...

I don't like being far from my family - I live 10ish minutes from my Nana and Papa, and 15-20 minutes from my Aunt and two cousins. My mom's side of the family doesn't go far - Nana had 9 siblings and almost all of them still live in the same county - and most of their kids... and their kids' kids. I know most of my second and third cousins. :)
My Dad's family is spread pretty far and wide, I'm not as close with them. Will probably has one family member in each state - but he knows how important family is to me, so our ultimate goal is to wind up back here in GA when we can. :)

I'm a little different in that I don't have any immediate family left at all, both of my parents have passed away, and the one sibling I have took off for Colorado after she sort of took off with the entire inheritance after our dad passed away, so I never will see her or talk to her again. But, I do have a couple aunts and uncles, and some cousins left, but they aren't close by either, they are about two or three hours away from me. I don't have a significant other, so it's just me and my critters. I have some great friends tho!

I am 2 hours from my family which I hate. I like where I live, but I wish they all were here. We're very close. I am 20-30 minutes from my in-laws which I like, they're all awesome!

We live 2 hrs away from my parents which is too far. We live an hr away from alot of my Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Some live farther but alot still live where our parents and grandparents grew up. I wish my parents would move closer but I don't think that will happen and we can't afford to live near them even though I wish we could. The houses with land around them are very pricey and the taxes are high. I checked into boarding but $525. a month is way too high for us with 3 horses.
We live next door to the mother in law and her husband and my brother in law lives on the other side of her. His other brother and one nephew live in Montana, the other lives a couple hrs away. His cousins all live away. He's only got 2 aunts left and they don't live close either.
Sometimes I'm happy to live an hr away from the family, sometimes I wish I lived on the moon!!!!

Most of my family is 3 1/2 hours away. This is the closest I have lived to my family and in-laws since I got married.

Well count me in the one that lives "away" from my family. I was born & raised in South Central, Pa & lived there for 22 yrs. Then picked up my belongings leaving everyone but my cat & horse behind and moved to DE. ( I know of all states I pick, I pick the littles state that takes only bout an 2 1/2 hrs to drive from NORTH to SOUTH!) So naturally my immediate family lives in Pa along with some extend & the rest are scattered around the states mostly in VA & TX. Never visited any of them, though I wish I would have. Maybe some day.

half & half for me!
Dad's side is mostly around here, Mom's is scattered all over the western states. But most of what I consider my immediate family is about 15 minutes away :)
I do really enjoy it here but if needed for job/(b/f, at some point far down the road?) I wouldn't mind being a little further away, but no more than 4 hours, tops. That way when stuff comes up (holidays, emergencies, death), I can get to where I need to be-with my family!
