Well I just got off the phone with my mom, and she talked to the Guidance Councler (sp? that doesn't look right...) this morning, and the second school semester starts January 22nd. So that will be my first day of high school! (In case you haven't figured it out by now (hehe, just teasing;))- Yes, I have decided to go for it. You can't let fear of the unknown stop you from trying new things, right?)
(For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, here is the original thread: http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2985 )
Friday morning my mom and I have to be at the high school at 8:30 for a tour and to meet this Linda person that my mom talked to today. We'll talk about the different classes available, and they'll figure out where to place me and what my schedule will be. Linda told my mom that I won't have another student to show me where everything is on my first day because no one else will have my exsact schedule, so I'll only have the "school support people" to help me out if I need them. So in other words I'll be on my own, and will probably spend my first day of school wondering the halls with no clue as to where I'm supposed to be or how to get there. :p
My mom said I should make a list of all the questions I want to ask, but at the moment I'm drawing a complete blank:eek: I wonder if there is anything I need to buy before school starts... like note books or certain clothes for phys ed., etc? And wow, while we're on the subject of clothes, what will I wear my first day?! Omg, the stress!
My mom said the lady was surprised when she asked, "So when has she been to school?" And my mom of course answered, "Well, never." Lol
I haven't told my dad yet that I've decided to do it... in fact I haven't talked to him about it at all but my mom did once, and his reaction while not surprising was disapointing. I know what he's going to say so I'm not in any big hurry to tell him about it.:innocent: But I'll have to bring it up after I get my tour on Friday. At least then I'll have more info.
At the moment all I know is that school starts at 8:08 a.m. (random start time:rolleyes:), and for math I think I have the options of taking Algebra, Geometry, or General Math. That will probably be my hardest subject. But I'll know more after Friday.
So other than my mom, you guys are the first to know about this!:D I'm kind of excited, but I'm also extremely nervous about it. But I guess that is to be expected.

Aww, that's great! I'm sorry I wasn't keeping up with what is going on but I'm so glad that you obviously made a great choice for yourself!!! It can be fun going to school the first day, everything and everyone is new. New can be good. And believe me I know how hard it is to do something new, I hate change but somehow it always ends up pretty good. :D :D :D
Good luck and be sure to keep us updated!! I'll try to get on AIM sometime this week :)

LIZZY! I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!! I just read the first sentence of your post and I'm off to read the rest but I couldn't wait to tell you how EXCITED I am for you.
k now that I'm done reading the rest lol ...you'll be fine finding your way around you can always just ask people in the halls where to go. You'll find people with common classes as you and it will all work out. Clothes clothes clothes...lol just be you. :) Of course you can ask our opinions if youd like for you outfit for the first day of school. You prob wont be able to sleep but everything will be just fine. You may have a "uniform" for PE or you can just bring a tshirt and some shorts or sweats...make sure you have a change of clothes tho its never fun to do PE in the clothes you'll be wearing for the rest of the day. OBVIOUSLYY... we want an update on friday :)

Oh this is so exciting! We're all going to be so eager to hear Dakota's updates throughout the semester.
Good for you, Dakota. And I can just tell that you'll do great. Like how you're already able to laugh about the fact that you'll have to roam the halls for a day or two figuring out where you are going.
Regarding Math, I would ask if you can borrow the books. I can't imagine that you want to take geometry just yet if algebra is so hard for you. I'd think that it will be more between whether you take regular math or algebra. After looking at the books, I'd take the one that you are positive you can handle in that first semester. You can go on to algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus after that if you wish, but no reason to put extra pressure on yourself this very first semester.
I hope you won't forget us. Heading off to the big time and all.

I had the same thought. I did pre-algebra last year and wasn't half bad at it, but this year it's alot more complicated (at least to me it is), so there is a good chance that the algebra class they offer will be over my head. I don't know what all consists of general math, but I should be able to handle that. As for Geometry I only just touched on the basics of it in 8th or 9th grade, so that is definately not the way I want to go.
I hope you won't forget us. Heading off to the big time and all.
I wouldn't worry about that, lol. I'm going to need you guys to listen to all my "what did I get myself into?!" vents, laugh at my First Day of School story (which I'm betting will be a doozy ), and maybe give me a little help in the school work department.:p I need you guys! xD

You go girl!
Go ahead and get a school map and ask for a tour on Friday. Mark which door you'll be dropped off at so you won't be disoriented when you go in. Make notes of obvious landmarks (like a trophy case or the office or library) on the map as you go through the tour, so you can find your classes more easily on your first day of class. :) The classroom numbers generally go in some sort of order, so don't stress too much - plus your teachers will be understanding about it being your first day in an actual school.
I'm so excited for you! Remember we're all just a post or pm away! ;)

Oh, wow! That's fantastic! It will be neat to see how things go for you- I bet you'll make a lot of new friends.
YAY! Congrats!
For clothes, just wear what feels comfortable. I usually wear jeans, a loosely fitted shirt and my converses (and a hoodie). :) Just whatever feels comfortable. I really think you're going to love it!
When you get your schedule I would try to go in early the first day and walk to all of your classes, that's what I always do the first day of every semester, just so I'm sure I get the right classroom. :)

That sounds like a good plan to me. You actually have some decent math skills already in terms of what you need to make it through life OK. I remember when you presented your budget plan thinking about getting Beauty. You had it figured out and you will recall that pretty much everyone said your plan was strong and that you accounted for everything.
I do think you will want to take algebra, and probably geometry before you graduate, but why be frustrated in the evenings this spring with a math course that is a bit over your head when you can take one that's well-matched to your abilities to get started?
You'll do great in any writing class. You have excellent writing skills and a good vocabulary. And while you do misspell words occasionally (we all do, right?), I'm impressed that you usually recognize when you've misspelled a word and put the (sp?) with it. You can't do that for your classes though (OK here, of course), you have to look it up and make the correction.
This is going to be great. We're really happy for you.

I'm so happy for you for at least trying something even though you are nervous and excited at the same time. I'm sure you will fit right in. They'll probably give you a student hand book so you'll know the rules as far as dressing etc. Some schools don't have any dress codes some do. Anyway good luck, I really don't think you will have any problems at all. I bet you will make friends with other horsey people and will have a good experience!

YAY FOR DAKOTA!!!
That's great news & I'm excited for you! What to wear...what you're comfy in! I just wore a t-shirt & jeans mostly...sometimes a nicer shirt if I felt like it, but ALWAYS my jeans. Then when prom came around I really wowed them (although, heels spell death for me...lol) & I'm sure you will too ;)
Supplies...I'd just take a notebook that 1st day & write down what the teachers request. Some classes could be very specific & others you may just need something to write with (dark ink goes over better vs. colored inks like green & purple ;)), your book, & some paper. You should get a sylabus too for each class so you know what will be expected of you.
Good luck & know we're here for ya ;)

My advice to you is make the most of it. High school wasnt the best experience for me, I got my GED when I was 16, you dont have to be 18 for it, i was just out of my sophomore year. WEll, good luck with school!

For me, math was all about the teachers. One teacher was awesome, he was a pig farmer on the side and my ping pong partner during lunch. The other mather teacher was a dumpy lady that chewed on her glasses.
Needless to say I did awesome in the pig farmer classes and fell asleep in the dumpy lady class. The subject matter had nothing to do with it because I did well in Algebra with pig teacher but got burned out trying to figure it out with dumpy lady and I did not like asking her for help.
General Math, is in most cases is really really simple. The classes are designed for people that struggle with math period. You would be doing basic addition, subtraction etc, balancing your checkbook, long division, nothing challenging there at all.

Don't give up on Dad yet. Mine helped me with the math classes sometimes. It might give you something to do together.

Good luck Dakota. Be yourself, and dont let anyone try to make you someone you dont want to be.
You are a good person.
High school was hard on me, I had ADHD, but back then they just said I was hyper, and people ignored me, so I ended up in the wrong groups.
Be strong in who you are.
((HUGS)) we will be here to help you and listen to your highs, and lows.

Good luck.
I hope you have as much fun in high school as I do!
It really isnt bad at all, and almost all schools have tutoring to help you get through the courses.
and just so you dont make the same mistake as me, most schools do not look highly upon wearing a cowboy hat and spurs to school. the one time I tried they said my spurs could be used as weapons and I could use my hat to store drugs.
