...they all head away from the barn at feeding time.

What the heck - I've never gone out there at feed time and have them leave! It just doesn't happen - especially the haflingers. They can be in the farthest corner of our property, but when its feed time they high-tail it to the barn and move faster than you could ever dream of getting them to go under saddle.

So I go up and survey the area to see what is going on. Someone pulled the water heater out and had it pulled half way across their shelter and burried it in the mud! Still plugged in and all. Wanted a warm mud bath for their hooves?

Crazy ponies. I need to figure out a new way to secure it in the tank.

Mine's done that! My hubby zip-tied the wiring to the top of the tank. It at least keeps it in the tank for me.

My gelding plays with ours sometimes. not always. I found it in various places last spring and he took it out once this fall but has been a good boy lately. I think I just tied it to the rail of the fence since the water tub is on the other side...twine string...

Are they getting turnout? Just a play session? You know that milk jugs work as toys right?

My boys are out 24/7, but right now are confined to the "mud lot" area - which is plenty large for them the run around in. Just no grass so they don't destroy the back pastures.

Well I had thought I was smart this year and had part of the water trough on the other side of the fence and the heater cord came up there - so they had have stuck their head in the water and fished it out because even if they reached over the fence to grab the cord they never could have got it through the little gap. Hard to explain without photos.

Unfortunately we don't have any milk jugs - anytime we use milk for cooking its the powdered stuff. Maybe I will get a big jug of OJ and toss the jug out there when I am done. Thanks for the idea!
