Merry Christmas

Twas the month before Christmas
When all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying
Nor taking a stand.

The politically correct had taken away,
The reason for Christmas - no one could say.
The children were told by their schools not to sing,
About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.

It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say
December 25th is just a " Holiday ".
Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit
Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!

CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod
Something was changing, something quite odd!
Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books by Franken &Fonda.

As Targets were hanging their trees upside down
At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.
At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears
You won't hear "Christmas;" it won't reach your ears.

Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty
Are words that were used to intimidate me.
Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, Obama, on Rather, on Clinton!

At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.
And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace

The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded
The reason for the season, stopped before it started.
So as you celebrate "Winter Break" under your "Dream Tree"
Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.

Choose your words carefully, choose what you say
shout MERRY CHRISTMAS, not Happy Holiday!

So sad. My grandkids still have Christ in Christmas at their public school. My children got to have it in our home town (not where I now live) I hope it doesn't change.

Well, not everyone out there is a Christian. That said, I still say Merry Christmas. I see Christmas as a name of the holiday, but I don't see the name as a religious thing anymore, especially since Christmas has nothing to do with the actual birth of Jesus.

Anytime I get a chance I always say Merry Christmas. Pretty soon Christ will be taken out of everything (like it is mostly right now), and we already see where this world's headed too.

Thanks for sharing, so true it is!

Well, His name is in Christmas. ;) I do know it didn't start out as a Christian holiday, I'm just pointing that out. Strange, isn't it. Maybe the early Roman Catholics instilled the name? Not sure...

*******

I am a Christian and I find it sad. Christmas is about the ultimate gift and giving is a good thing. So even if you don't believe in a God who loved us enough to give His Son for us...you can still believe that giving to others (with no thought of return) is a GREAT thing to do. :) I think if we all took that thought away from this holiday the world would be a better place.

It used to be called Yule/Saturnalia - various names depending on the culture. It was changed in the mid 300's in order to ease the conversion of the Pagans to Christianity but that day has nothing to do with Christ at all.

I don't understand why they didn't come up with something in spring to celebrate his birth instead. A lot of people still believe he was born in December.

I get particular joy out of returning a "Merry Christmas" to a "Happy Holidays".:D *sigh* it's the little things in life.

Which is funny, because it is utterly illogical for Christ to have been born in December, but people just don't think that through. But i think of it this way - even if Christ wasn't actually born in December, His birth is commemorated and remembered on Christmas day (or it should be). As they say, it's the thought that counts.:)

But it is celebrated under false pretenses and was only a way to get people to convert. Either way, it is what it is. A commercial holiday all about stores selling and people buying and we all get caught up in that.

I heard someone on t.v. the other day saying that Halloween was becoming bigger than Christmas which I found interesting since Christmas is THE holiday for gift giving.

Ditto! And if they say nothing or say Have a great day, I say, Well you have a Merry Christmas too.
The other day my Mom took us out Christmas looking and we went to Golden Corral as a special thing. The waitress we had was very nice. We left her her a note on a napkin that said Thanks so much, and have a Merry Christmas! Or something like that. She got the biggest smile when she read that. :)

When me and my two sisters went to see Clinton in Fletcher, we had a guy waitor who was very nice and we also left him a note(didn't say Merry Christmas, cause this was in October..lol :p) I don't know what his response was cause we didn't get to see it.
I think I'm going to start up something called "Notes on Napkins". lol :p

I'm not a Christian, nor is my sister (you all don't want to know what she is =P), but I still celebrate Christmas and say Merry Christmas because my parents use it as a gift giving day. :p I think it is plain stupid, "oh, you can't say Merry Chrismtas, 'cause, uh, that's offending to me." (note the me - that's all people think about me, me, me, me) I mean, WTHeck, freedom of speech, you can't take that away. I'm going to start saying I am offended by the word "the," - that sounds pretty stupid, right? That's how stupid I think taking someone's right to say Merry Chrismtas is. Sheesh people, go find something else to b$#@* about. Obivously that's not directed towards any of you guys, but gah, I'm not even a Christian and it totally ticks me off...!

Exactly! I ditto that. Problem I have is it's okay if it offends me, but if something offends you(any person in general) that's not okay.

Lol! I'll join you. xD

Alrighty, thank you! !! This outta be fun. :D It's an easy way to brighten someone's day and you don't have to say a word if ya don't want to. ;)
Any others want to join? :D
