I got a call from our credit card company about a possible fraudulent charge made on our card today--$1246 at a sporting goods & clothing store. Definitely wasn't us and this did not make my day. I'm so flipping mad! It's even worse because my husband is currently out of town on business and that's the card he uses for all his business charges because his company reimburses us when he gets home. I'm pretty sure it's someone who works at the hotel he's at because he checked in yesterday and part of check in is giving them your license number, address and credit card number. The charge was made online and generally you have to have the billing address for the credit card.

So for those of you who travel, consider giving your work address to any hotels rather than the address that your credit card is billed to.

Good grief!

Well, it would seem they'd have to give a shipping address for the stuff.... are they going to be able to catch the people that way? That's a major order.

Did they take the charges off the account then?

Exactly what WB said. What an idiot. Will be very easy to track down who made the order becasue it has to be shipped!!! Someone stole my checkcard about 4 years ago and then had pizza delivered to their address using it. . .ugh, duh? Criminals are not the smartest bunch.

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. We know the feeling. We've has to change our LL Bean charge twice in a month. Thing is I only use that card to buy from LL Bean or for PayPal so I have no idea how someone got the #'s. I'm wondering if it's someone right at LL Bean. It's so frustrating to have to stop the card and get another. Thankfully we weren't responsible for any of the charges but it's still very upsetting.

Hope things will get straightened out soon.

Why do people do things like that. I mean, duh dumb @ss, he ordered to have something shipped to him. How stupid is that. I hope he rots for awhile.

Thanks guys!

We aren't responsible for the charges. Luckily the idiots charged at a place that is so unlike us...if they have bought at Tractor Supply they might have gotten away with it LOL And yes, they should be able to find the person responsible by using whatever shipping address they put on the order. Really, I'm out of the loop now as the credit card company will be taking care of it.

It just makes me so blasted mad that people would steal from other people. What if the card they had stolen had been all some family had to use in a crisis? The lack of respect and consideration for others in our society really worries me.

I'm just surprised that this time of year, their fraud sensors still picked it up before you had time to see it on the bill and complain... That's a pretty good algorithm. I mean, with Christmas, there's a lot of people buying stuff online that they wouldn't ordinarily buy.

That really sucks and I know how you feel. Last fall I had my checkbook stolen with my debit card inside. I noticed within hours and called the bank. The debit card charges were not such a big deal. I was not responsible and they cancelled the card. However, the jerk used my checkbook to write several checks for large amounts and cashed them at various banks. I had some bad advise from the banker and did not close the account right away so the checks kept coming through. I was so mad at the bank for paying them. Anyway, the idiot wrote most of the checks to himself and even wrote his own drivers license number on one of the checks. How he thought he wouldn't get caught is beyond me. They also had him on camera using my debit card (which is a whole other story  ). They got the guy and as far as I know he's in jail right now.
