I am tired of employment agencies.

I have played phone tag with one person for over a week. When I finally got a hold of her it was NOT to discuss positions I had applied for.

She informed me that even though they checked my references in November AND I worked for them in November, they will now need to RECHECK my references because I took a seasonal job at Target. Not only that, if I want to even work for the agency again they MUST have a reference from Target.

Of course they don't discuss this with you when you register with the agency. Temp agencies are NOT user friendly, I sure would like to start my own agency some day. Its so stupid how they run things.

Had a different agency refuse to even consider me because I "worked" as a freelance writer. Like one article every 3 months is going to pay the bills. They just expect us to sit at home waiting for THE AGENCY to call....

Huh? I've worked for several temp agencies over the years and I've never had them do that. I've been signed up with a few of them at the same time, as a matter of fact.

It depends on the agency. In the past I have worked with some wonderful ones - other ones...well...not so great.

That's interesting. I've never had that happen either. Course with the way the economy is and lack of jobs, maybe they are just being more picky.

They really do want you to stay home and work just for them. But when there are no assignments how do you pay the bills? I doubt anyone from Target CAN give me a reference, so many large companies are stickers about that. I had very nice references given to this agency in November...from TrueValue hardware,(a franchise), from the lady I worked for at the horse stable etc...but go out and work a seasonal job and you have to start all over again... in the mean time, THEY CAN"T send you on assignments until the references come back!! Like, ok, why should I use this agency at all, since they are not giving me any work?? I am going to go to school and wipe butts as a CNA until this economy thing gets straightened out. UGHH.
