So I'm trying to kick the habit of drinking pop. I know it's unhealthy, etc. I usually only have one pop a day, a Mountain Dew. But I think I'm "addicted" to the stuff. If I don't have one for two days or so, I get the shakes!

Anyways, I decided to switch to Diet Mt. Dew while I wean myself off. It's just not the same.

Anyone else not like Diet pop?

hahaha, I'm the opposite. For the most part I don't drink any carbonation except beer. I live off of Crystal lite lemonade, water and milk! But I was raised on diet everything. I cannot drink a regular Coke! I can drink a reg Mt Dew, but I preffer the diet... just lighter and more refreshing to me!

Funny, guess it's just what you're used to!

You gave up pop? How did you do it? Lol. sounds like we are talking about drugs...but seriously I need help. I'm kinda hoping I'll hate diet so much I just won't want to drink it at all anymore....

I don't drink pop. I don't like the way it makes me feel lol. I will usually have lemonade if we go out to eat somewhere. You should try to find something else that you like instead of pop.

I am odd child, and I really don't like any kind of pop that much at all.:innocent: I hardly ever drink it. And when I do it's only because there's nothing else, and I'll only drink Diet. Lol, I'm a weirdo.:p

I usually give up cokes for Lent then end up drinking about five or six a week by the time New-Years comes around... then I swear them off again and wind up drinking a couple a week again by Lent. :D Never diet though. Diet cokes are awful for you anyway, I stay away from pretty much anything (gum aside ) that has an artificial sweetener in it.

I drink a lot of coffee and eat a lot of chocolate when I give up coke. It's the caffiene you're missing so much - not the carbonation. Your body just craves cokes because that's how its used to obtaining the caffiene. ;)

I CAN'T drink diet coke. (and I also refuse to say "pop." :p ) Gives me migraines.

Woah.. Mountain Dew!? Hard core, huh? But if you stop drinking MD- maybe you'll get like me. I get shaky if I *do* drink one! But I sure can handle a nice, cold Dr Pepper!

mmm... ice cold "coke" (sound better ALOK and Carla? ;) ) sounds really good.

funny thing about Mt. Dew too. I usually always have it right before my kids take a nap at 12. It makes me sleepy. I drink my "coke" and then usually try to lay down and get some shut eye. If I drink one, I'm snoozing in no time... if I don't, I usually don't nap.

Now try to figure that one out... :)

Heh, that's what you get for saying the "s" word around a couple of Georgians. :D

Maybe try a cup of hot chocolate or coffee tomorrow... a decent amount of caffiene for your 'fix', and infinitely better. ;)

You know, I often find myself falling asleep in the recliner after my BIG cup of coffee in the morning. But then I'm also up, on here, at 11:30pm right now. ;)

The shakes are probably due to the caffeine and diet Dew has just as much as the regular.

My best friend drank DD for breakfast and sometimes had three or more before lunch. She would get headaches if she didn't drink it. She was an exercise nut but loved her sweets and diet Dew. I used to bug her about it but sadly she lost her life in a car accident almost a year ago. I'd give most anything to have her back to "bug" her again.

Can't stand it! Used to I could drink flat pop drinks and even some diet. My dad owns a vending machine business, and whenever he had drinks with dents or something he'd let us have them if we wanted. I could drink them then.
Now, the thought of a Diet Drink or a Flat one, just makes me say Yuck!
Amazing how times change, huh?

Best of luck on your switch.... :D

I never was a big fan of Pop. The only time I drink pop is when I have it in a mixed brink. My problem is coffee. I use to drink up to 5 cups a day *easy*. Now depending on if I'm working or not I drink 1-3 cups a day. 3 usually when I'm working (it's free) & 1 when I'm not. Must have the coffee.

Loves: I think your already on the right step with only drinking 1 a day, that is WAY better then some people. Try one every other day or 1/2 one once a day. Good luck kicking the habit!

Thanks for the tips. I tried getting those "baby" pop cans of Mt. Dew a month ago to see if I could cut my consumption of a can a day in 1/2. No such luck. I think I ended up drinking more. :(

I will see how I do today!

Me either, it's nasty.

I found that flavored carbonated water isn't bad though. I like the blackberry flavor.

I gave up sodas several times, though the most recent time (just over a year ago) was the hardest I remember. Day one I was fine, no problems at all. Day two I wanted to die. My brain felt like it was exploding. Then I got on with it. I still don't really drink sodas (unless I really want one, like a Dr. Pepper or Orange Soda or Nehi) but I don't struggle with it anymore, because it's just not something I have to think about, except when I'm at home.

And I know exactly what you're talking about with the shakes because of MD. I was addicted to MD: Code Red in HS and I finally realized that needing something so much I would shake without it, was not really something I needed to be doing. It's part of the reason I decided to give them up the first time.

Happy to report I'm doing better with the whole Diet thing. And I've slowly been pushing the time i drink it back.. and I also napped for 4 hours today (thank you hubby! :) ) BEFORE I drank a DietMD.

Pretty soon I'll be pop free! And hubby wants to quit too, so he's switched to diet as a stepping stone too.

I don't like diet pop, tastes too sweet to me, and I don't like the artificial sweeteners. But I must say I do love my Pepsi and Coke, I find that I need at least a couple glasses a day.....lol. I gotta have a few bad habits...ha haha......

I gave up Mountain Dew. It was hard and I was working in an office. I had to force myself to drink water but after a few months I was used to drinking water. It just takes time. People expect water to taste good when they've been sucking sugar for half their life...

For me, it was sometimes a temperature issue also. The colder the water was, the easier it was to drink it. Since my job bored my socks off I spent a lot of time at the water cooler refilling my bottle...

I am convinced though that the Mtn Dew was a major contributor to my Type II Diabetes. Get off of it as soon as you can.

You should talk to my mom. She used to drink Mountain Dew ALL the time. Then she managed to wean herself off that onto Pepsi and onto Diet Pepsi.

I go through phases. I'll drink Cherry Pepsi for a month and then switch to Pepsi and then switch to water. I've been drinking water for a few months now. I like pop once in a while and sometimes I crave the caffeine at random moments, but I rarely drink it.

Isn't it crazy that MD is almost like a drug? I know caffiene is a powerful thing for some people, but it's crazy that I can't "kick the habit" of drinking Mountain Dew!!! And the funny thing is I ALWAYS hated MD, and then I got pregnant with my daughter and had a sip of someones... I was hooked.

I drink an unholy amount of coffee. Unfortunately, the antibiotic I'm on is not mixy with caffiene... I'm not even supposed to have chocolate ( insert horror movie music). I've had a headache all day and tomorrow's going to be twice as unpleasant. I need my caffiene - it's definitely a very strong drug. ;)

I cannot drink Pepsi, it makes me really nauseaous. I've always drank Coke, and I think Pepsi tastes the exact same, but about ten or fifteen minutes after the first couple of sips I feel awful.

Im allergic to nutrisweet... Anything that uses it or any fake sugar gives me a migraine..

I'll stick to the real stuff. I know it's bad for me but hey I'm going to die anyways so wny not enjoy life.
I don't drink, smoke, and have never touched drugs. So this one addiction isn't so bad.
I'll be honest I grew up with parents who smoked cigarettes to a pipe. Wanted to know what it was like tried one Marlboro didn't like the taste and never went back.... I'll stick to my pocosoda....

I used to drink a can of Pepsi once a day, honestly, I think life is too short to stress about something like that. Yeah, it can affect your diet and all, but oh well, enjoy that can of soda (in my opinion). ^_^ I do not drink Pepsi everyday anymore, but I do have a new addiction - Gatorade. There will ALWAYS be something else, even if you stop drinking soda. xD

I hate Diet pop! I quit drinking Dew 3 years ago ( I was drinking 2 or 3 a day  ) and I can imagine it's like quitting smoking! Since diet pop was so gross to me, what i used to make the switch was bottled water and drink mix packets, some of theose have caffiene in them. After awhile those werent nessassary either- it was more of a habit I had to break than the actual pop. Plus I lost 12 lbs just quitting the pop.

Cloedoll - you are right. there are worse things. But like Kowgirl mentioned, losing weight is my main reason... aside from I hate being addicted to something like that.

This thread just displayed all the different ways we say "Carbonated Beverage" in the US. Soda, Pop and Coke. Haha. We say Soda over here...I think midwest and east coast say pop and in the south they call all soda's Coke. This was a totally linguistic biography lesson.

I've never been much of a Diet soda drinker...but I like soda. I try not to drink it much but I have a weekness for Root Beer, especially if Pizza is around.
