You guys on here always have great suggestions & options when someone is dealing with a health issue or anything else. You helped me with your Netti Pot suggestions now I'm looking for anyone who has Sleep Apnea.

My BF has sleep apnea & he litterly scares me to death sometimes. I finally got him to go to the Dr sometime ago & after a bunch of sleep studies he gained himself a CPAP machine to sleep with at night. *Yep I sleep with Darth Vadar at night!* Ha ha :p It's actually soothing to hear the "wind" of the air in his mask. However now he is starting to "snore" & stop breathing again through his mask. Needless to say (the motherly instinct in me) wakes up every single time he stops breathing. I'm worried about him.

Anyway anyone suffer from sleep apnea & what do you do to deal with it?

No help, since I don't know about it but I think he should go back into the doctor ASAP. I remember a lot of people had advice though about apnea when I mentioned my hubby's snoring. Hope someone comes over to help you!

Star you can PM me. I'm well over 18.

Loves: I'm trying to get him to back to the Dr, but typical hard headed men he won't buge.

It worrys me b/c I've seen many people suffer from it. I mean I'm in the health care field & realize the risks & such but you know you can only push soooo much. What ticks me off is IMO they should of taken his tonsils (sp), the Dr even commented on how large they were. I realize the surgery is painful at his age ~ heck I had mine out at 21 & that was terrible but it was worth it in the end.

The Dr says it's not because of his weight. He is not skinny by no means but he is not over weight either. He is very active and is 6'9 and 220 about..... Thanks anyway. :)

Is the machine working the way it should? Being a man ;), maybe he would go get it checked out and just happen to check himself with the machine?

I have been using a CPAP machine for almost a year now. They are great when they work the way they are intended. Please try to get him to get the machine or himself checked. It's very serious business.

Depending on how long he has been using the machine he could need some new parts(ie. mask). They wear out and lose the seal and don't work nearly as well.

I'm no where near an expert on them but feel free to ask questions and I'll do my best to help.

My husband had the surgery to remove his palate and it did not help at all. All it did was make it easier for Bob to choke on his gum and snort potatoes through his nose. Think long and hard before doing any surgery and make sure it is the last resort.

Has his nose ever been looked at by a ENT specialist. Bob had surgery twice on his nose for enlarged turbinates. I think that did help more than the palate removal, but we still wonder why he's had to have the surgery twice.

Other than that, if a sleep study has not been done, or the study is more than a year old you need to have another. He should not stop breathing with the CPAP. The setting needs to be adjusted maybe. They do have different types of masks.

Untreated Sleep Apnea can cause heart attacks. Tell your boyfriend to get his arse into the doctor.

I couldn't use the machine so I ended up having the surgery. They shaved off the end of my septum and did a bunch of other stuff. It was PAINFUL. Horrible horrible horrible. But I don't have the sleep apnea anymore. I had my tonsils removed and the little thing that hangs at the back of your throat. The tonsil part was crazy painful too, but again, worth it.

ETA: the surgery is worth it, find a good surgeon.

Yep I know all the consequences & have throughly explained them to him. I think it's more along the lines of faulty equipment at this point. I never really thought about that. He hasn't had the machine checked since he;s gotten it a little over a year ago. I think maybe he has changed his mask once. That's probably really what it is. I'll make sure I suggest the machine to be taken to get looked at. Then maybe someone other then me can convince him to go get a "check up". Def. don't wann a loose my hunnie! Thanks everyone!
