So we had another minor battle riding tonight. It was the same thing.

Me: "Whoa"
Him: "Look at me, I took another step, missed that one didn't ya!"
Me: "Easy, walk"
Him: "Look at me, I didn't walk when you told me too"

Swish tail, growl... more growling....

So we continued walking and I put my niece on him to cool him off and he was the PERFECT gentleman. She's not ridden much at all. He did not swish his tail, growl or fuss one bit. He paid attention to how she was sitting and what she was asking. It was REALLY sweet.

I took his bridle off and he put his head to my chest like he does after each ride.

That'll do pony... that'll do...

I'm trying to picture him growling. I am envisioning these lion sounds coming from a big black horse. LOL.

That boy can growl. Everyone that has heard it has been like, "what was THAT?" other boarders will be, "oh, that's just Solon, he growls, your horse will get used to it."

HA HA. I'll try and get that on video sometime.

He does that when he gets scared, or when he's saying he's sorry or when he's just wanting a hug. It's really sweet.

The cool thing is we can wrastle it out and have a pony/rider smackdown during a session but the second it's over it's like sunshine and carrots. All good. That's the great thing about horses. :)

I've never heard a horse growl. You HAVE to get a video of that!!! My Jack (Perchie cross) loves to put his head into my chest too. I melt every time he does it! Big ole babies!:)

He seems like such a sweetie, makes me want my pony on this coast with me. Man I miss getting hugs from her after our rides or if I've had a bad day. He sure is a handsome boy.

That would be something to see, wouldn't it!

Isn't it amazing how a horse can be totally bratty, but put a child up on him and he's the perfect angel?

Hee hee...sounds stubborn like Allegro - yet they somehow know when they need to be gentle with someone.

I think Allegro does the growling think you're describing. He's got some attitude that I'm having fun with. I've been on him a couple times and he was good. We're mainly working on ground work and starting with the basics. He's not liking it much at all..he's gotten spoiled all these months when I was just grooming him and loving on him.
