View Full Version : Good News!
Hubby said that I can get the haflinger even if Bandit is not sold yet!! It won't be until next thursday or Friday, I will find out tomorrow for sure when I talk with the guy. <Ok, insert little dancing dude here - we need one of those! but wait...lookie what I found> http://bestsmileys.com/dancing/12.gif
And here are a few photos of Bandit - after he played a good 30 minutes of "you can't catch me!" Before it took only a couple minutes, but we had 2 days of rain that he didn't get worked with.

That is really great news! I know you've been wanting another halffie for some time. I wish there were some around here, I'd like to see what they are all about. Never seen one in person before.

Aww Bandit's such a cutie. So... why are you selling him? I think I missed that one too...
I'm sure there have been posts around and I know there was one about the haflinger - it was one of the first posts here on this forum. LOL. You can see the thread here:

And I will post more photos when I get them.
As to Bandit - there are several reasons and it is breaking my heart because he can be a sweetie once haltered. But one of the problems is I have had him for 2 years and have not gotten beyond what you see.
I can get him going good, some basic ground work, easy to catch, etc, then I get sent out of town for work. Since I am over another facility in a different state, this happens on a regular basis. Well when I get back, I am back to the point of where I can't touch him again, and I have to start the whole process over again. Heck today took over 30 mintues, and we just had 2 days of rain, but he still saw me and was petted both days. But when it came down to being haltered he wanted nothing to do with it. And that is no where near as bad as when I am gone and he doesn't see me for 2-3 days at all. So he really needs a home where someone can dedicate every day with him and not constantly being sent out of town. My travels don't seem to adverly effect my other horses, but it does my mustang.
Another issue is him and my current haflinger do not get along. Bandit had an injury this summer that required him to be stalled for about 2 weeks. Once he was let back out in the field he got progressively aggressive with the other horses - and that is what got my husband asking me to find him a new home. He has since calmed down and doesn't pick on the others anymore, but does go after my haflinger. My poor haflinger has welts and missing fur from Bandit. In fact Toby came up with a new egg-size welt yesterday at the evening feed after Bandit was chasing him around. That just doesn't work since Toby is my main trail horse.
Plus now that hubby has it in his head he wants Bandit gone, he has come up with other reasons. One is that bandit is only 13.3 hands and not as stocky as my haflinger. I"ve always questioned a little about me riding him because I'm not short, but I've been told I would be fine, but hubby is not very comfortable on my haflinger, let alone on something a bit narrower. He has requested that since we have limited acerage that any "extra" horses please be of a size that he could ride too incase he needs a back-up horse.
And really, this is the first time in the 9, almost 10 years that I have been with my husband that he has ever asked me to consider getting rid of something that is mine. It made me stop and think and I finally agreed I would look for a home for him.
So there is the book - sorry its so long!
