What does it mean when you have big pupils?
Mine are always so big unless there's a ton of sun out...then they're actually pretty lol. At night it takes up my whole eye... they're all black. What does this mean? Is it bad?
I notice that when I'm driving at night I find cars headlights extremely bright to the point where I almost tear up. I don't really want to wear sunglasses at night...? Is there anything that can be done about this?
Thanks! :)
I can get pictures if needed.

Well pupil size is dependent on how much light is present. No light = BIG pupils. Lots of light = little pupils.
It could be that your eyes are very sensitive or something along those lines.
If headlights make you tear up I would really go to an eye doctor. That sounds unusual to me, even though some headlights can be REALLY freakin' bright.

Thanks for the reply. I have an eye doctor appt. on the 30th.
There is only one picture I have of me where you can actually see the colour of my eyes! And that's because it was taken on a super sunny day. But they're still big!

I think it's a trait common in serial killers. A sign of an unbalanced mind :D

I think men just know their chances of getting it go up in low light conditions... Not so much in full sun. ;)

Hahahaha you guys are hillarious.
Yeah, here are one of many sites that talk about that.. I'm not sure why that even came up on google when I was searching "effects of big pupils" lol. But a lot of stuff like that did. It's interesting.

I have unusually large pupils too, my optometrist comments on it every time I see him. Because of this my eyes are extra sensitive to light but not enough that it causes me problems. I don't really have any suggestions, sorry, hopefully your eye doctor will be more helpful.

That's a good thing you're getting checked. I don't have large pupils buy my eyes do bug me when I'm driving...I actually went off the road when I first started noticing. It's fine if I have something to focus in the same lane that I'm in but it scares the crap out of me when there's nothing. I'm going on the 1st to see if I have an astigmatism...that may be what you have. Both of my parents have it. It's been known to cause problems with lights.
And you guys are hilarious :D

Well, the whole sex related thing with dialated pupils is actually if you are attracted to someone, one of the changes in your body is dialated pupils, which is apparently supposed to be more attractive. I get blinded by cars driving at night as well, because my eyes are so adjusted to the dark, the bright lights are shockingly bright. Ive also noticed photosensitivity when I don't have my contacts in. One tip i've found for driving at night is instead of looking at the lights in the other lane, look more along the lines of the white linge on your side.

Wow, I totally forgot about this thread! BAD ME!!!!
Anyways, the eye doctor said it's going to be something I'll just have to put up with. I have perfect vision in both eyes so no need for anything or any treatment. He wants me to see him again in 6 months though to see if anything has changed.
This is a really bad picture, but here's what my pupil look like in normal light!
Like I said, at night it takes up my WHOLE eye and when I'm outside, it's large but close to normal :)

For years I never ever wore sun glasses.
When my eyes continued to have issues , one of the first things my eye doctor advised was to where shades.
(This protects the cornea etc etc )
My pupils were large like that only when my eye doctor did the eye drop test to scan the back of the eye... he said it would go away in 2-3 hours ,,, it lasted almost 24 hours and my eye's really felt wierd , like stressed .
Hope all is well.

They're supposed to do that to get a better look at your retina. It's called dilating. :)
I know a little about it cause I've been wearing glasses and contacts for about 9 years now. My vision is at -3.50 now.

Your eyes have a large aperture value!!!! Lol. Umm. K. So that was a very nerdy photography joke. . . In cameras it means you can shoot in lower light faster. Do you see better at night than your friends?

I did see her pupil. I was thinking that the lens couldn't get to such a large aperature, but then I just realized that it's a 50 mm lens (not a telephoto), so 1.4 or even 1.0 is possible, I believe. Very high quality either way. :)

Hahaha, yeah I know, it's weird. But I actually really love my eyes! :P
& yes, I've had them dilated before. They just look like they do at night but let 51453453434x more light in! LOL
No photography nerds here,... I know exactly what you're talking about! :D I'm actually in a photography course right now. haha.
I have no Idea if I see better at night than my friends. Hmmm!
Thanks guys! :D
I took Paxil one time and it made my pupils really large like that, I only took 1 pill, I didn't like the side effects, it made me very nauseus too.
