So I didn't get pics of her first day home.. because I was taking pics of the horses I am training for Alex. :innocent: So firstly... this mare is 12. She was broke at 2. Then put into a breeding program. I got on her on Sunday and she was really good and responsive I ended up taking her out of the round pen, then into the big arena, then out down the road. And she was good. Yesterday I rode her for a while in the arena and then put my bosses (at the school) granddaughter on her and had her work her. and we got her pretty stellar at the walk and trot. At the canter she's still a little unbalance but safe and sane. I took her down the road again and she has no spook. Sometimes she stops to look at things, but otherwise she's good. She needs some muscle and weight. But I think she'll find a good home soon. Alex is done breeding and has all these nice mares who actually ride really safe and nice that he's looking for homes for.
This is April (with yvette riding)

So on to Dena.
She got home and I put her in the arena.. she kind of looked around then went on to eat the grass on the sides... after about a half hour I put her in the round pen and she was so funny. Everytime I walked out of site she's gallop around and whinny.. then when she saw me she would come and stand and stare at me. When someone would come up to pet her..she's walk to the middle of the round pen and wait for me? Not sure how I feel about that, but at least I know she's joined up and bonded with me.
I worked her in the round pen for about 5 minutes.. then I said ok I'll just get on her.. so I did. With a rope around her neck:innocent: I rode her in there.. and we worked on some things.. then I rode her out of the pen, across the property, to the big arena. I got her to back up 6 solid, rather hustly, steps (Look mom no hands!) and I got 3 nice turns on the haunches in both directions.. an easy trot around both ways.. then we were done.
She got lots of cookies and grooming and prettied up. But not bath yet.
She didn't want to eat her grain though... so I had to sit there with it in my lap.. then she ate.
Once I turned her out for the night she seemed ok. Eating her hay and meeting neighbors etc....
So today I have new batteries and I'll make Bobby get some pics of me riding her etc..
Why am I going bitless? Because I want her to learn seat and leg first and face secondary... because I apsire to rein on her bridless one day. And I think she'd be the one to do it.
I'm so in love with her that Bobby is jealous lol
