He broke into the dog food bin.
Again.
While I was cleaning stalls.
I should have put him in his crate, he shouldn't ever be trusted, but jeepers. He's been good for a long time. But not today.
He's sick. He hurts. He's miserable. And it's his own dang fault.

Awww!!! Those eyes look miserable!!! I've seen that look on a lot of relative's faces about a month ago!! (Thanksgiving!). Poor guy. I understand the urge to go to the buffet line over and over. . .
We have an old Cocker Spaniel that will get up on the counter and eat the bread loaf if we leave her unattended. Very annoying considering when I'm actually in the room she can't manage to get on the couch by herself and just puts her front paws on it and looks at me expectantly to help hoist her up. (She uses a chair to climb up to the counter. . .) So I know about those pesky senior pups.

Poor Barkley. It wasn't your fault. I'll be launching a thorough investigation to see who is primarily responsible for this unfortunate oversight. And I can assure you that it will be either WBay or WBoy who find themselves thinking that it's advisable to just settle out of court.
In the meantime, you just try to rest little fellow. I'm going to put a couple of Alka Seltzer tablets in your water bowl. You wait for them to dissolve and then lap it all up.
Those two are about as useful.... I swear.... :)

I have two of these vittal vault buckets - keeps the 110lb lab and the mice outta my feeds:
http://www.petmountain.com/shop/standard/food-storage/105305/vittles-vault-pet-food-containers-round-buckets.jpg
There are more sizes than shown. The larger tub (not pictured) holds a full 50lbs of feed which is great when you're travelling. Since the vaults seal real tight and force air out when you seal them, the vaults help protect against spoilage when the humidity is high as well. Pricey, but worth it if you really need to protect the food. I use one 5 gallon (above) when I trailer to hold water and another to hold the feed.

OKAY I think... We've still been trying to encourage rest, but with all our snow, even getting out to pee has been a bit of a workout, and when he gets tired, he gets a little wobbly. And last night I gave him some Hydrogen Peroxide to induce vomiting (which did not end up bringing up much) and that dry heaving wore him out too and I was afraid was stressing his back so I didn't give more.
But overall fine. I didn't even spank him for his break in, though he was expecting it and deserved it, I'm now afraid of hurting him if I do. I had to settle for cussing him out while he cowered and tried to waddle away from me like an expecting hippo.
He didn't move much last night, he's drinking tons of water, needed to process that mother lode in his gut. I would imagine we will have many trips outside today... I should weigh him before and after each unload.

My Cody did that recently. When he laid down it was like Mt. Everest. His belly was so big and bloated, it took him 3-4 days for it to get back to normal. I keep my food locked up with the exception of the food that came with Arthur (that I forgot about). Cody didn't forget and ate a good bit of it, actually he ate most of it. It was a lot of poop, lots and lots and lots of poop and nearly 4 days for his trimmer figure to reappear.
Poor Barkley, you're your own worst enemy when it comes to food aren't you. My Cody boy is the same way. You'll feel better soon, but I doubt you'll learn anything from this experience. Even after Cody's big indulgence he still wanted to eat.

Side note: I don't know why, but when I first saw this thread I thought it said, "I'm a bald eagle". I need sleep.

Just wait until more than gas starts working it was through the other end. Tons and tons of poop follows all that gas, although since this isn't your first time, I'm sure you are already aware of that issue.

I am aware of what's to come ;)
What's worse is, we're supposed to be gone tomorrow up to celebrate Christmas with my family finally, at my dad's lady friend's home, and since I don't think Barkley's going to be in any kind of shape to spend all day alone in a crate, I think we're going to have to bring him.
So how polite is that, as a guest in someone else's house? "Hi, here's we are, and our gassy beagle that is probably going to dump about four pounds of poop in your back yard!" Merry Christmas indeed.

poor barkley! makes you feel any better......... my aunt brought her dog for Christmas too (who is also sick, from a dental... long story) except now the poor boy due to the dental anestesia used caused him to completley loose his vission.... now if he feels cold he goes to the bathroom, like clockwork. well she was holding him and someone decided to open the front door........... there he went! lol

yup, he most definitely will be, hopefully, the relatives are forgiving as well. I'm sure they can understand overindulgence in food or drink. I'm sure they've been there before, combine that with pitiful beagle eyes and he'll have them wrapped around his little paw, until of course he cuts one. Do you have a mean Uncle Rufus you can blame it on, or will Barkley BE the mean Uncle Rufus? Oh well, every family has an eccentric member who makes weird unbecoming noises and has a certain aroma to them, the family wouldn't be the same without them. I'm sure Barkley will find away to endear himself to all those present, just keep him away from the food!

Poor old beagle! My old beagle basset can't really get into anything on her own anymore, poor old girl. I'd love to see her get into something again just to see some life and pep out of her! My young Wiemaraner makes enough mischeif for the two of them though. Yesterday Annie the Wiem took a whole pack of tortillas off the kitchen counter and ran outside with them where all the dogs devoured them. I went out there and was very stern with them and gave them a proper scolding but then I walked back into the house and laughed because I also find it funny and cute when the doggies are naughty. They always give me that look after being scolded...you know the one...:innocent:
