Horse's Name: Koko
Breed: AQHA
Age: 3 years old
Height: 14.1hh
Discipline(s): pasture ornament until she is trained (altho we have our little work sessions, lol).....hopefully trail horse!

Annie&Dixie
10-04-2008, 07:52 PM
Horse's Name: Dixie

Breed: Grade QH

Age: 10 years old.

Height: 14.1 hh

Discipline(s): Western right now - Trail Riding, started on the barrel pattern, and pleasure riding. I think she could also go english and I plan to do some english with her, I just haven't put the saddle on her yet. We have done some fun jumping and she seems to enjoy it.

Story (if you'd like =]): I think she has a pretty interesting story. She was owned by a family for four years; half pastured, half stalled. They didn't do anything with her, just bought her new halters and such. She was also, I've heard, terrible for them. They couldn't do anything with her apparently...like trimming, fly spray (I still can't do this with her, it has to be wiped on), standing still for anything, etc.

They then stopped paying board on her and she was sent to auction. The BO came back with both her and the other horse owned by them. I then started working with her. This was about 9 months ago...I started leasing her in June and have been loving it ever since

This was about 4 years ago. Cody passed away in April 08.

I'll do a post for each horse. Here is my first boy:

Horse's Name: Registered Motley, but we call him Toby
Breed: Haflinger
Age: 7
Height: just over 13.3 hands
Discipline(s): Trail, professional trouble maker
Story (if you'd like =]): When I was first looking at getting a horse in college, I couldn't afford much but fell in love with haflingers who were still quite pricy at that point. One farm offered me an option in their "watch me grow" program (where he would stay boarded there and I could make payments) and the lady said she had a specific yearling she thought would be a good match for me. Went to visit and fell in love. He stayed there until he had his saddle training done as a 3 year old and then came home to live with me.
Pictures!:
This was my very first view of him - that was the tall side of the stall and he was on tippy toes to look at us over the wall:

Horse's Name: Bay (WR Baywind)
Breed: Arab
Age: 28
Height: 15.2
Discipline(s): Trail - Retired Endurance, NotVeryGood at Dressage.
Story (if you'd like =]): Bay is my heart horse, and I knew that long before I owned him myself. He first belonged to a friend of mine, was sold a couple times when I was not in a position to buy him, but I kept track of where he was and when he came up for sale and I could buy him, I got him back again at age 19. It's a longer story than that, but that's enough for now.

He's still my best trail horse. May he never get old.

Fun thread!!!! Mine's going to be like a novel!

Horse's Name: Sterling Request
Breed: 1/2 Arabian/ Appaloosa
Age:20
Height: 15.3
Discipline(s):Trained for endurance but switched to barrel racing in college because of lack of time.
Story (if you'd like =]): Sterling is my soulmate!! She is that once in a lifetime horse. She and I have been together for almost 15 years. We've grown up together. I got her when I was 14, saved every penny I could for her. .. and she has done everything I've ever asked her to and never looked back.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3272/2882638946_14f9eba594.jpg

Horse's Name: Sterling Sonora
Breed: Appaloosa (although really she is 1/4 Arabian, 1/4 Appaloosa, 1/2 Quarter. . .but registered NC Appaloosa)
Age:5
Height: 14.3
Discipline(s):Going to be trail. Bred for Barrels. . .maybe one day.
Story (if you'd like =]):Sonora is Sterling's daughter. I bred Sterling when she was 14 so I would forever have a descendant of hers. I haven't worked with Sonora under saddle much yet because I can't seem to pull myself away from spending most minutes with her Mom. Although I have started ponying Sonora with Sterling and I whenever we go anywhere. . .And I have been on her more than once. . just need a round pen and more free time and I'm going to turn Sonora into a great trail horse.

Horse's Name: Taris Doll (Sunny)
Breed: Quarter Horse
Age:20
Height: 15 hands
Discipline(s):trained for roping but she isn't athletic. . .after 60 plus days at the trainers they sent her back and said she wouldn't cut it. . .then we got her.
Story (if you'd like =]):Sunny was a friend of mines and was too much for her to handle. She is a rather hateful mare who dumped my friend on her bum many many times. . .so she bred her and was lucky to get a nice baby out of her. (she's well bred and a looker. . .) My friend sent Sunny to live with her brother (the roper) and kept the baby. The filly died when she was 4 years old. She broke her leg in a cattle guard. Very tragic. So we ended up with Sunny because she needed a home (since my friend's brother couldn't use her) and because I'm a sucker for a blonde horse with beautiful eyelashes. . She's technically my 'husband's horse' but he hasn't been on her in years. She a bit arthritic now so she is in charge of reminding me it's feeding time and kicking the other horses occasionally. (Grr).

Horse's Name: Mack (Mackadoodle. . .)
Breed: American Trakehner
Age:20 plus
Height: 17 hands
Discipline(s): Dressage champ, now he's an occasional trail horse.
Story (if you'd like =]):Mack was a rescue of sorts. My farrier ended up with him somehow and didn't have a clue how to take care of a high maintenance horse. Mack was bones when he gave him to me. All he knew about him was he was a former "massage" champion (I'm not kidding) and that he was a Trakehner. I couldn't find a brand at first on him so I didn't really believe that my new bag of bones was a Trakehner but a few months after I fed him and put some weight on him (and got his coat into condition) I spotted the American Trakehner brand on his hip!! It was a bit like finding gold to me. He's a fun boy to ride because he knows more than I do I think, which is really cool!! He does stuff I've been working with Sterling on for years!! Someone loved him a lot once and I often wonder how he got into the shape he was in! He's got a forever home now and I'm lucky to have him!

Horse's Name: Registered Dlux Ready Edition, but we call him Drifter
Breed: APHA - Solid
Age: 3
Height: 14.2 hands
Discipline(s): Trail
Story (if you'd like =]): Not much story with him. I got him when I wasn't really looking for a horse. He was 18 months old and we got him through an old friend of the family.

Horse's Name: Bandit
Breed: Mustang
Age: 5
Height: 13.3 hands
Discipline(s):
Story (if you'd like =]): I got him when I got a larger black mustang that I wanted under the BLM "buddy" system. I lost the black guy to colic (he was a sweety and gentling down easily!) only a couple months after I got him. Bandit is from the Pilot Mountain, NV HMA.

Horse's Name:Bogey
Breed: No Idea
Age:13ish
Height:17hh ish
Discipline(s):Eventing/Dressage
Story (if you'd like =]): Bogey and I met one evening I was working at the barn. A trailer came in and all I heard was thunder inside the trailer. Out stepped a fat cow-eyed hateful pony and.....a thin, frightened bag of bones. He was the most beautiful animal I'd ever seen. The details are sorted an unimportant, but the ending is...since that night he has not spent a day without me. I promised him a home with me until the angels come and get him.

This is Secretary Gold (Sonny)
Appaloosa
18yrs old
15.1 hands
Endurance
Story - we found Sonny when he was 14yrs old. He had spent his life standing in a 36X36' pen. He was hit in the head by a rock when he was a foal, the vet believed he would die. Then he injured his leg badly (he's sound now but still scarred). The man who owned him and paid a fortune in stud fees to get him lost his health soon after Sonny was born and he had been boarded the rest of his life. He's a grandson of Secretariat. Anyway, we brought him home, broke him to ride, and gave him a job of running endurance. He loved that. He has also sired some wonderful babies for us - every one of them with a pretty head, long legs, great minds and thoroughbred conformation. He doesn't run endurance anymore, we lost our rider due to divorce. He just keeps an eye on the place and watches the comings and goings.

Horse's Name: Cloe
Breed: Paint
Age: Eleven
Height: 13.3hh
Discipline: I ride her bareback, but I am an English rider.
Story: Cloe is versatile and smart as they get. We are stuck with bareback riding since she is so hard to fit for a saddle, but that doesn't stop us with anything. Cloe is a very different and special mare to me. I basically broke Cloe to ride myself (bought her extremely green, a few rides on her) and have continued to train her. I have only had her for a year and a half, but the progress we have made is much more than that. She still has a lot to learn, but our bond grows even stronger everyday.

Horse's Name: Keidas
Breed: Quarter Horse/Tennessee Walker Cross
Age: Fifteen
Height: 15.3hh
Discipline: English Pleasure
Story: He is a lovable, mellow and just a super sweet gelding. He is like a big puppy dog, you can't not love him. Keidas was a cow horse most of his life, my sister bought him, then stopped riding and giving him proper care so he is my cute little English horseh now.

Horse's Name: Niko
Breed: Haflinger
Age: 3 yrs old
Height: 14.2 and a half!!! He's a big pony now lol
Discipline(s): Dressage
Story: After I sold my last horse because she didn't enjoy dressage I was looking for a dressage horse that kinda had some training already but come to find out they are either to old, to much money, have soundness issues or I didn't like there training. So I found Niko (formerly Niks) 4 and half hours away. I emailed they lady for quite awhile before I was sure. I did some research on Haflingers and decided to give it a shot. She sent me quite a few videos of him lungeing, loading, running around in the pasture, ect... he was un broke so theres not much you can take a video of lol. So we decided to drive the 4.5 hours with the trailer down there so If everything worked out we could bring him home. And we did! Everything went great and he came to live with me. I have trained him by myself completely and he is doing amazing!

Guess I shouldn't forget hubby's horse either:
Horse's Name: Apache
Breed: Draft Cross
Age: 3
Height: 15 hands
Discipline(s): Trail
Story (if you'd like =]): We got this boy as an orphan foal and almost lost him to foal pnemonia (went through the whole rescue we found out) - vet told us not to expect him to survive the night. But he did. He was such a stunning chestnut tobiano and I was so excited, but then I found a white eye lash and I knew he was going to go grey. Everyone told me I was crazy - but I will let the photos speak for themselves. I've never been a fan of grey, and my husband is not a fan of "brown", so he took Apache as his own, especially after he found himself horseless. Hubby has done most of the training on this boy and he is proving to be a solid trailmount. Really just too lazy to get up the energy to spook at much!

Went to the rescue where he is to look at buying him. Dad didn't like minis, but I adored him. Worked out a plan with the owner that I would go out on the weekends and help around the farm. She wanted me to show him for her, since we made a good pair. Have done it ever since.. I love it!

Breed: Morgan
Age: 4
Height: 15.2
Discipline(s): Being a pasture bum. Soon to be a dressage horse extraordinaire and jumper hopefully.
Story (if you'd like =]): I just bought Jake at the beginning of the summer with recently found freedom and available funds (aka. graduated from college…woo hoo!). He is a big goof ball, horrible klutz and always in your business and looking for ear scratches. I am looking forward to starting him in dressage this winter and seeing where it goes from there.

Abby: 11 year old, 14.3 hand Appaloosa mare.

At age 3 she was rescued from her life as an abandon, and the lady that rescued her put her up for adoption and I came along. The lady flat out told me she should not sell this horse to me due to my experience (8 years ago) but she could not ignore the instant connection that Abby and I shared together. We have been together ever since.

Horse's Name:Noble Gypsy Rose aka Gypsy
Breed:Registered Half Arabian(Quarter Horse)
Age:29
Height:14.2
Discipline(s):Western and English-trail riding
Story (if you'd like =]): I've had Gypsy since before she turned 2. My mom and I had each bought ourselves horses in October of 1980.

Mom was planning on using Gypsy as a broodmare. It turned out that I liked Gypsy better, and Mom wanted Robin, so for Christmas, we switched.

I trained Gypsy myself, and we had a lot of fun over the years, showing at the local level, and just having fun.

She was always willing to try whatever I asked of her, and now she's enjoying being semi retired- just going for trail rides.

Horse's Name: Registered as Quanah KC Bar, Barn name is KC
Breed:Appaloosa
Age:15
Height:16hh
Discipline(s): Trail
Story (if you'd like =]):I bought KC almost 9 years ago as my horse at the time (a 32yr old QH/Draft cross) was "retired" and was living the good life. He wasn't exactly what I had pictured - I'd always dreamed of a big, black horse with a long flowing mane and tail (think The Black Stallion minus the Arab part - no offense to Arab lovers) instead here was the Appaloosa (ick) whom everyone told me was crazy and said I shouldn't buy. But the owner convinced me to take him out on the trail and I was sold then and there. He's a really great horse (even for an Appaloosa - :p) and we have a truly awesome bond.

Horse's Name: Registered as Maximilien, and came with the barn name of Max, but he's now Allegro
Breed:Percheron (its all Cheval and Solon's fault!)
Age:10
Height:17.2hh
Discipline(s): none - he's greenbroke
Story (if you'd like =]): My dream horse has always been "big and black", and when I saw Cheval's Solon, well I was in awe/lust. She didn't want to sell me Solon and I couldn't conceive of a plan to steal him that might actually work, so I went searching for my own black beauty and found Allegro in Kentucky. I got him this past March, 2 days before my birthday. He was the most awesome gift I could give to myself.

Horse's Name: OneLoudThunderbird aka Thunder
Breed: Paint
Age: 9
Height: 15.2
Discipline(s): Trail riding
Story: Our local chapter of BCH bought Thunder at the auction, put three monthes of training on him and then raffled him off to raise money. He was won by a non-rider, lived in a pasture unridden for a year, was sold and returned twice after hurting people and then ended up with my neighbors. He then threw my neighbor and his girlfriend and was turned out to pasture where I saw him sunburnt with blisters around his eyes and nose with a shoe hanging. We asked about him and were told "he is going to auction next week and we don't care if he ends up dog food"... so we said "OK, how much" - we got him for $250. That was four years ago and although it took awhile, Thunder is a wonderful boy, a crazy character and a good trail horse.

Horse's Name: Sedona
Breed: Unknown
Age: Unknown
Height: 15.1
Discipline(s): Pasture Pet
Story: I was browsing horse sites looking for a horse for a friend when I ran across an ad that said "Rescued horse from feedlot then lost my job - must make truck payment so he will be returned to feedlot if he isn't sold by Friday". I THOUGHT I forwarded the ad to my friend with a note that said "poor baby, he look so sweet - it's a shame he's heading to a feedlot". Apparently I hit "reply" and not "forward" because I got a reply saying "he's yours for $400". After that it felt like it was meant to be so I went and got him - found out later he had been buted and had bad arthritis and and an old injury. He hasn't been ridden in the three years he's been here but he's gone from struggling to get up in the morning that first winter to now running around the pasture. I take a lot of flack from some "friends" for spending so much on feed and supplements on a "non-usable horse" but he has a great personality, is very loving and has a home here until his quality of life is no more.

Horse's Name: J.D. Lyra aka Lele
Breed: Morab
Age: 4
Height: 14.1 and a half!
Discipline(s): Trail riding
Story: I was actually on the "First Annual Horse.com WA Member Camptrip" when I found out that the woman who owns the campground had two horses for sale. A breeder in Montana had two three year olds he didn't want to care for through the winter so he gave them to her in hopes she'd keep them together. Once she saw how small they were (an Arab and Morab) she decided she couldn't use them and agreed to sell them for $250 each since they were only halter broke. After doing a little research and seeing that they had pretty good lines, I decided I wanted the little girl and EquineDreams got the little boy. Lele has come a LONG way in the year she's been with us... training in January-February, almost lost her to colic in June, then trail rode her July-September... was even able to put my niece on her she's such a good girl!

Horse's Name: Timber
Breed: Paint (so they told me but I have some doubts)
Age: 14
Height: 16.3
Discipline(s): Trail riding (past fox hunter and dressage)
Story: I lost my beloved OTTB Sarge on the 1st of March and was still in mourning when a friend approached me with "I know it might be too soon but I know a very nice horse that is going to be put down if we can't find him a new home in the next couple of weeks". I immediately felt like saving a horse was the right thing to do with my empty stall so I went to meet Timber. Turns out he some how hurt himself in Nov. '04 and spent the next two years going through all kinds of testing and treatment but never fully recovered. MRI's show he has a lesion on his RF DDFT but they say that shouldn't give him the gimp he still has... and his owner, who used him for dressage, was tired of the tests, the injections, the bute and the uneven ride. She didn't think she could find him a good home with the gimp so she made an appt. to have him euthanized... but the vet talked her into giving him a few weeks to try to find him a "trail riding home". I can't say it was love at first site but he was so grumpy and miserable that hubby and I knew we had to get him out of there - he lived in a stall with four floor to ceiling walls with bars on the front and had a very small turnout area during the day. Although he still gimps, he has flourished living with other horses and playing in the pasture, and is a WONDERFUL trail horse that hubby adores.
Pictures!: Hubby and Timber love each other, Timber used to spend a lot of time laying down, He loves baths... and he taught us H.com'ers all about enteroliths!

Wow, reading these stories have brought a smile to my heart and a tear to my eyes. I`m not very good with computers, but here we go anyways. Horse's Name:Baska Blue Kiowa (Kiowa)
Breed:Quarab 1/2 arab
Age:8
Height:15.1
Discipline(s):Will be for trails
Story (if you'd like =]):I was a 45 yr old looking to fulfill my childhood dream.I had found a few that I liked but something about Kiowa`s pic. in the ad kept calling out to me. I had called on another horse and was going to call back on that one when I couldn`t find the add again. So I called on Kiowa. The lady that owned her agreed to a lower price seeing as Kiowa was only greenbroke and would need to be finished. So we took the 4 hr. drive to Dallas and before I knew what happened, she was in the trailer and we were on the way home. That was 3 yrs ago. In that time I found she had aLOT of issues, bucked when asked for the canter, and was a very head strong, dominat lead mare. I went though quite a few trainers to no avil and decided I`ll just train her myself. Learning as we go. We got over alot of issues and after this past summer of groundwork being done I`m back in the saddle. She`s come along way.And so have I.

Well hopefully all these pictures will load. The first ones are of my boys. Sarge is a 5 yr old 1/4 horse-Haflinger mix. He is the clown of the bunch. His nose always is in everything and he thinks every person has food. He's very very friendly and oh so helpful. He will push the wheelbarrow while his brother runs with the rake. They LOVE to help. He is a fun boy and makes me laugh alot.

Sarge was my birthday present 2 yrs ago when I really didn't want another horse after my old horse died. I was crushed and didn't want to do much of anything. My husband drug me to a local stable and the owner and I hit if off right away. She is who I've always wanted to be, she can ride anything, she can train anything and has a habit of taking in strays. Me included. Sarge lived there for a yr and she taught me to ride and do the basic training with him. He is here now because he has an eye problem that needs to be watched closer than I could do it when he was away. I spend alot of time at the stable though because we have so much fun together plus our mare still lives there.

Relampago-AKA Rompy is a 7 yr old Colonial Spanish Baca Chica [Mustang] or Ferral Mutt as someone on the other forum kindly called him and others like him. He is so sweet. He was really the horse we were never going to get. We went to Red Road Farm in VT to meet the Choctaw and Baca Chica horses. We had a great time and made friends with the barn manager. I spotted a little bay horse in the back of a stall looking scared and wanted to make friends. We were sort of 2 lost souls that found each other. Since they are preservation horses she was careful who she sold them to. I figured it wouldn't be me, I wasn't looking for a horse. The last night there she asked if we wanted Rompy and my husband said yes, I said no. We went back to Vermont to spend more time with him and decided to do it on a trial basis. He came a yr ago on Oct. 3 and he never left and won't unless we leave too. He is a horse that seems to know everything and has seen everything. They have a long history and it shows in their eyes. He can be a brat like all horses can be but he seems to understand things and will almost "talk" to me.

Delta Dawn is a 10 yr old black 1/4 horse that started out as my man's but is now mine. My husband always loved our friend's black 1/4 horse and when Delta came off the truck from New Holland Auction it was love at first sight. The horses look so much alike I have sometimes walked up to the other thinking it's her and hugged him then realized that he's not Delta and he doesn't "do" hugs! She lives at the stable and is who I ride the most. I enjoy riding her and I love how she follows me like a puppy. She also loves to be groomed, she will stand for hrs while I brush her and fix her hair, I bought her a little tiarra charm because she is Queen of the Delta! I want to buy a real tiarra for her at some poing! She's the best trained and she's a good girl unless she's in heat then she is CRAZY LADY. We've been in 2 barn horse shows and have gotten 3 first ribbons and 2 seconds.

So on to my second horse, remember I had called on another horse before Kiowa.
Horse's Name:She`s A Doll(Dolly)
Breed:Pinto 1/2 arabian
Age:10
Height:14.2
Discipline(s):trails
Story (if you'd like =]):2 weeks after buying Kiowa I got a phone call. The first horse I had called on was still avalible and was I still interested. My heart sank. I wanted her sooo bad. I didn`t have the money she wanted anymore cuz I just bought Kiowa. Dolls owner suggested we could do payments then. Sold.It took me 3 mons. to pay her off, but in that time I emailed and had phone calls with the owner and felt that by the time I got Doll, I knew everything about her. I had to have her shipped. She was in Wisc.(I`m in Texas) Long story short she has been a blessing. She is one of those Very quite, in your pocket type puppy dog horse. And such a love.

Horse's Name: Bedrocks Tradition a.k.a. Fred
Breed: American QH
Age:11
Height:15.3
Discipline(s): HUS, Western
Story: Fred was my first horse, and the only one that I'll give up everything to keep. My mom and I had to drive six hours round trip in post-hurricane Katrina rainfall to get him, since then everything important/good that happens seems to happen on a rainy day. Shortly after buying him, we gave him the live Rhino vaccine and he foundered from it. After a very stressful/complex day he went to the vet's clinic and stayed there a week. Thankfully the vet saved him and he has minimal to no problems from foundering. We have since been to some shows and dealt with trailering problems, but he's "retired" from shows, too much stress between me and him.

Horse's Name: Shys Painted Gold a.k.a. Cheyenne or Shy
Breed: Pinto (supposedly APHA, no papers)
Age:10
Height:15
Discipline(s): HUS, Western Pleasure
Story: I bought Cheyenne from some interesting owners, ended up having a two hour float of her teeth from poor dentistry and she had ulcers. Then her hooves have cracks in them from poor upkeep. The owner told me Shy needed them done a lot, I was expecting 3 weeks or something, told me every 3 months. Uh, no. Shy had pancake feet and needed a lot of work. The good thing was that they were feeding her right, she was relatively happy and passed a vet check a-ok. (Well after explaining what a vet check was to the owners, but I don't really blame them on that.) I registered her with the Pinto Association, picked the name out and everything.

Anyways, I've had to pretty much re-train Shy in everything from lunging to balancing for a canter. Still haven't managed that last part very well, but I got her a week before mid terms in highschool my Junior year, so I should have known that time would be a problem. She's come a long way though, and I took her to a show last year to win two blues in walk/trot and she was a doll at the show. Then my trainer had to leave, because the barn that we were at closed so I moved but the new barn wants insurance and apparently my trainer doesn't have it. Which sucks. So now I'm on my own as far as training, even though you could argue I was on my own from the beginning because my trainer only came up once every two weeks or so for an hour lesson.

So now we're at a standstill, I've kind of gone through spurts where selling her sounds like a good idea, because we really don't mesh, but we'll see what happens.

Sedona you are a good person. I also got flack from people for having a horse that I didn't ride but kept and loved because he was my baby. Some people don't understand we can love them even if they don't earn their keep. To me they are family....my man doesn't always earn his keep and I don't get rid of him either!!!!!

If I had money I'd probably have a home for horses nobody wants. As it is my friend sort of has one whether she wants it or not. People are always giving her their problems or she goes to New Holland to bring problems in, she fixes them and tries to find good homes for them. Do you need another horse???? She's got about 15 that need good homes. We just picked up a beautiful palomino on Friday. She's a kind horse just doesn't know much yet.

It's great when people take in horses that might not have a chance if they didn't go to someone who wants them just for love.

Everyone's horses are so pretty, I love seeing their pictures and reading the stories. I've never met a horse I didn't love.

I'll just do Sam for now (lazyy)

Horse's Name: Sammy or Spaz
Breed: Anglo-Arab (or TB, not sure)
Age: Anywhere between 10 and 12
Height: 16.3hh
Discipline(s): English. Mostly flatwork because he can't jump too often.
Story (if you'd like =]): Greenbroke at the age of 6, his current owner bought him from a bad situation when he was 7. About 6 months in her care she had a baby and paid someone to hack him out. He spooked at nothing, slid down a 4ft bank into a canal and tore his hind suspensory ligament (right side I think...). He hadn't been ridden since then until I appeared. He's a wonder horse ;) When I first started riding him he was demon horse. Bit, kicked, bucked and bolted. Then he started rearing. Still working on the bucking and the bolting but all else is good!

Story (if you'd like =]): After going to look at several horses I came across Tanner. And the first time I saw him, we just clicked right away. I knew he was the horse for me after went to see him for the first time. My parents secretly set up a 2 week trial with the owner and had him brought to the barn while I was riding the Gelding I leased. I cried SO hard when I saw his head poking out of the trailer! He passed the vet check with flying colours and 2 weeks later, he was mine! :D Since January, when he'd buck at a walk, he's now doing W/T/C and we showed this summer and he was great! We've come so far and I wouldn't ever dream of selling him.

Story (if you'd like =]): I got him when he was 2 years old. Unhandled and hated people. It was a rough 9 months until finally he got an abscess on his foot and I had to come out several times a day to soak it. He decided that I wasn't so bad and we've had an amazing bond ever since.

He was a medieval gaming horse for awhile but outgrew his horse trailer. He lives a very refined life, being well-taken care of by his lowly peasant. He is well known for his annual Christmas Not Want List. :D

Breed:American Paint Horse
Age:7
Height:About 15 hands probably
Discipline(s):In training, so I'm not 100% sure what he can do. Trail Riding too!
Story (if you'd like =]): Ok, kinda a long one! One summer I had two sisters that babysat me and my little brother. They had horses, so I was out there all of the time. I went back out to help the summer between my freshman and sophomore year of highschool. I was helping the girl's parents. They babysat me way back when I was like 5. What a great summer for a horse crazy little girl! The mom asked me if I wanted to ride. Of course I said yes. She got my horse out, who at the time was 3 and had been home a month from being broke for 3 months. She got up on him to make sure he was ok and not going to be crazy and buck a lot. I fell in love with him. She told me that if he was not sold he was going to a sale the weekend after the up comming weekend. I begged my dad, my mom was not so hot on the idea. But they bought him as an early 16th birthday present and now I have had him for 4 1/2 years!

Okay, I'll give it a shot..but I just joined, so I'm not sure there will be pictures. :)

Horse's Name: Stormin' Norman
Breed: Registered Appaloosa
Age: 17
Height: 16.2
Discipline(s): trail riding
Story (if you'd like =]): I used to ride Norman when he was 3 or so at a riding stable. I helped train him and loved him. My friend that owned the stable was killed in a car accident and it hurt too much to be involved with horses. After 10 years off, hubby and I decided we wanted horses. I tracked Norman down, convinced his owner to sell him to me for "retirement" from being a trail horse 8hrs/day. He's home with us now and enjoys his time off with rides every now and then with Hubby.

Horse's Name: Shake your Booty aka Booty
Breed: Appaloosa/Arab
Age: 13
Height: 15.3
Discipline(s): trail riding
Story (if you'd like =]): We bought her from the same owner as Norman. We went to go look at Norman, saw her in the pasture, asked about her, found out she was for sale, took her for a test ride and decided to buy her. She is technically "my horse" and hubby has Norman.

And one of them together, just off the trailer the day we brought them home:

Horse's Name: Bonafide Genious, barn name Duke.
Breed: Tennessee Walker
Age: 21 on October 3rd
Height: 14.3H
Discipline: Parade Specialist and trail riding.

Duke is the horse in my avatar and was 16 when that pic was taken on lunch break at the Strolling Jim Ride in Wartrace TN.

Duke didn't "make" as a Performance Walker so went to auction. I bought him as a coming 3 year old (yep Buds for 18 yrs). Counting his breeder I was his fourth owner and he'd been to California and back in that short time. Even though he became seriously metabolic a year ago, he is still a huge motored horse with with a big heart and perfect manners.

Duke is 20 in this picture and already on the road to becoming stabile from the EMS. He is essentially a Type II diabetic.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v705/PAWALKER/The%20Boys10-14-07/Duke10-14-07.jpg

Horse's Name: Ultra's Skygazer, barn name Rusty.
Breed: Tennessee Walker
Age: 14 on April 15th. He has been in my pasture since he was 2-1/2.
Height: 16.H
Discipline: Trail riding, specializing in narrow goat trails with rock walls on one side and 50+ foot drop-offs on the other.

Rusty has that champagne smooth running walk that Walking horse folks lust after. The rougher the trails, the more Rusty thrives. He can't handle the wide open spaces or road riding alone - he has to have Duke with him for security.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v705/PAWALKER/The%20Boys10-14-07/Rusty10-14-07.jpg

Horse's Name: Joker's Reno Sun, barn name Joker.
Breed: Tennessee Walker
Age: 12 on August 3rd or thereabouts. Joker's been in my pasture two years.
Height: 15.2H
Discipline: Trail riding. Point him and he goes --- except in traffic - lol

Joker never had the opportunity to be road-schooled, so he is a bit skittish of traffic unless Duke is along. Yes that Dukie-Duke up above has an aura of self-confidence that is hard to find.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v705/PAWALKER/The%20Boys10-14-07/Joker10-14-07.jpg

Horse's Name: Wall Streeter, barn name Streeter.
Breed: Arabian
Age: 21 on April 1st. Streeter's been in my pasture 15-1/2 years.
Height: 13.3H
Discipline: Light trail riding, lesson horse for children under 12, and a happy memory for babies and toddlers.

I rescued Streeter 15+ years ago as a head attached to a skeleton. It didn't take me long to find out he had an injured vertebra. His job description soon got changed from being my trail horse, to taking care of small children. He is also what is known as a "Passive Leader", being quietly second in command to Duke. When Duke gets all honked off about something, Rusty & Joker will come to Streeter and say "what the hay is wrong with him?" lol lol

I don't own him, but i'd figure id introduce my lovely lesson horse anyway

Horse's Name: Doc
Breed: not sure, we think qh/arab
Age: 23ish
Height:14.2/3
Discipline(s): hunt seat, western
Story (if you'd like =]): i was at horse camp (its at my lesson barn) and i was about to go grab my lesson horse at the time (who'd id been riding for about a year), Sonny. he was huge, but real gentle and i loved & trusted him. i had his big lime green halter over my shoulder and had started walking into the geldings pasture when one of the counslers informed me that bernedette (BO/instructer) wanted me to ride a horse named Doc. i'd never heard of or seen this horse before, so i was a little nervous. instead of being in the paddock w/ the rest of the geldings, he was in this run w/ another horse, Zip. i put this big ol' halter on doc's little ol' head and led him up to the barn, and he was real energetic. we passed the mare's pasture and he started whyinning and acting like the stud muffin he is:) at first i wasn't so sure about him...he was so much different then Sonny. But, soon i was in love:p he was so much funner to ride, although i had to teach him that he wasn't a racehorse....lol. we've been together for about 4 years now.

Horse's Name: Pandora
Breed: Anglo-Arabian
Age: 15 yrs.
Height: 15.0 hh
Discipline(s): She's just my buddy. We do trail rides around our property, pole bending, and some jumps occasionally. Have been told she'd do anything and she seems to be like that.
Story (if you'd like =]): She's my first ever horse. My dad bought her for me for Christmas last year. She came home on January 06, 2008. We're still learning lots about each other, but we're having a blast at doing so. She had been used as an Endurance horse for many years. Ridden in GA,NC,SC,KY, and I think VA, & TN, would have to double check her records. After been an endurance horse, she was then a broodmare. She acquired a DDFT injury at some point, so we used as a broodmare for about 4 yrs straight (no breaks). That family has later told me she never earned her keep and didn't deserve to stay with them. ARGHHH.. She was sold to another lady. That lady ended up selling her. She had said she got her from an auction because she looked sad and a guy was riding her hard, but I later found one of her ads that said she got her as a beginner and she was to much to handle. So who knows. She then sold her to the lady I got Pandora from, who was going to give her some retraining since she hadn't been ridden in so long, then sell her. She was underweight when I got her, so I've had to put more weight on her. I didn't know at the time she was more for a Advanced rider(later found out), but with lots of groundwork using CA's methods, and lots of time, etc. we've bonded wonderfully and are a pretty good pair now. I love her to pieces, all 15 hh. of her hot headed self. LOL

Dakota Sunrise
10-05-2008, 07:43 PM
Horse's Name: Dakota (also knows as Kota, Kota-Kota, Champ, Buddy, Prettyboy, Love of My Life, etc etc):p
Breed: QH/Saddlebred
Age: 19
Height: 15 or 15.1
Discipline(s): western trail horse and bareback. xD
Story: I bought him May of 2006. He was underweight (his owners weren't really horse people, I don't think they even realized), had been ridden only twice in the past three years, and he basically just wondered around his pasture until I found him and took him home. But he had an awesome personality even then, and it was love at first sight.
He loves attention, nickers when he sees me and always comes over to be petted. Follows me around, nuzzles me, and loves to lick my hands (he never bites, and yes he does have mineral salt). He's an amazing trail horse and I LOVE to ride him bareback. I only saddle him up when we're going for a long trail ride and I need my saddle bags. I prefer bareback with him anytime!

Horse's Name: Beauty (Whatacutestory)
Breed: Quarter Horse
Age: 12
Height: 15 hands
Discipline(s): Gaming- barrel racing, poles, etc., and sort of a trail horse.;) Western all the way, although I am teaching her to jump, hehe.
Story: I got her January 26th, 2007. She was badly neglected when I bought her. Wayyyy underweight and hadn't been ridden in over a year because her old owner's daughters got new horses and didn't need to game her anymore.
Her hooves were a mess, her coat was rough and dull, and she was really skinny. They told me she had a bad wolf tooth and they stopped giving her grain because she couldn't chew it, so she lost a lot of weight. From what I gathered, even after they FINALLY had her teeth floated and the wolf tooth taken care of, her old owner's daughters still didn't put her back on grain (and going by the condition she was in, I don't think she was given near enough hay either) for some reason that escapes me. She's also terrified of the farrier and vet.

She was--and still is--quite a handful undersaddle, but she's come a long way and I'm very proud of the progress she's made. She's fat and sassy (a little too fat, my bad.:o) and a very happy horse now.

Hi,
I'm Hill.
I'm going to do 2 posts because I am easily confuzzled! :)

Horse's Name: Wren
Breed: Warmblood mutt! :) Rumored to be some fancy breed...
Age: 21
Height:16.3
Discipline(s): used to be a fancy schmancy show horse in the short stirrup division, now he's the best trail horse EVAH!!!
Story (if you'd like =]): I stumbled across him looking for a home. He had been someones previously loved and well used show mount and then she found boys... By the time I got him I could see every rib, vertebrae and hip bone! Thankfully the adorable tempermant survived his fattening! :) He's the love of my life! Pictured in the second picture with the other love of my life... my hubby. (Who is 6'3" by the way so you can see how tall Wren is!

Now my other baby! The witchy mare!

Horse's Name: Peaches
Breed:Rumored to be an AQHA registered horse but I don't care!
Age: 16 yrs
Height: 16h
Discipline(s):Formerly a HUS and three day eventer
Story (if you'd like =]): Peaches was bred by a very nice woman who raised her and showed her until she was 7. Peaches then rolled on top of the woman one day during a show and broke her hip. She then had 13 more homes in 6 years... With ours being the LAST stop she will ever make! Our first trail ride she actually purposefully tried to roll over on top of me! I jumped quickly and laid my full weight across her head and neck and pinned her down for 3 hours before she fully stopped fighting me... We've had an understanding from that day forward! She has tried to roll on 3 other people including my husband who gave her the same treatment but for just 30 minutes before she gave up and my father who she struggled for only 10 minutes or so... The third person ran screaming for her life... I told her not to ride her. I love this horse completely! She will never (neither of them will) have to worry about a new home. I couldn't do it to her. She's had 14 owners in her 16 yrs of life... thats far to many already!

Height: 15.3 ish
Discipline(s):Western, Trail Riding, Bareback riding,
Story (if you'd like =]): He was a trail horse but was having some isues so they sold him and I saw a flyer and went and looked at him and then came home with a horse! So it's been a struggle to retrain him but is looking a lot better! He loves being bathed and groomed! haha!
Pictures!: Pictures to be added soon! Need to resize them! :)

Horse's Name: Wicked Witch (Wikki is what we usually call her, Girly, ChiChi, Wikki Wikki, Wikki Wikki means hurry hurry in Hawiian I think. Catlin, Help!)
Breed: Thouroughbred mix
Age: 5
Height: 15
Discipline(s): none she's actually not trained yet
Story (if you'd like =]): Our neighbors moved and didn't really want her so I walked over to their house and said I'd buy her but they just said you can have her so I went without a horse and came back with one! Showed her to my parents and they approved! So she loves being curried and being brushed with a really soft body brush. :) So I've had her for about 2 years. :)

Horse's Name: Just Dreamin(barn name/show name/nickname)
Breed: Arabian
Age: 5(Had a b-day last month)
Height: Wow I just read through Sedona's story about how small Lele and my horse were when we got them. Dream was only 14.2 and now he's exactly 15 hands. Perfect height for an arab.
Discipline(s): Pasture ornament, future trail horse, hunter, show horse, all around fun hacking horse.
Story: Long story. I wish I had time to type it out. I got Dream 1 yr ago and actually found him by talking to SedonaThunder when she was about to buy Lele. He was barely halter broke. I've done all his training myself. He's my dream horse. I would not be happy with a warmblood or some other kind of fancy horse. He is my fuzzy cute teddy bear. I love him so much!

Otto is an 11 year old quarter horse. He is currently layed off. Otto was abused at some point in his life. Sometimes he can be ridden and there is no problem. Other times he will just explode for no reason. It has been suggested that I sell him to a rodeo stock contractor because Otto can buck. He is also over 17 hands. He will have a home here as long as I can afford to keep him. If I can't afford to keep him I'll just have to get a second job because he isn't going anywhere.

Story (if you'd like =]):Went to look at another filly and she was there in the field with her, wouldn't let us alone so we ended up buying her too. Ended up selling the other one that we originally went to look at and kept her. She's my buddy and is SO willing to do anything I ask, especially for such a young horse. Very trainable too.

10-06-2008, 07:19 AM
Horse's Name: Lakota Spirit Warrior

Breed:American Paint Horse

Age: 8
Height: 15.1 hh

Discipline(s): Trail at the moment, will be starting training for mounted police work before too long now that parades and competitions have slowed down

Story (if you'd like =]): I actually just bought him on August 9. He was at a horse and tack auction that my dad and I went too. We were wandering around the horse barn and he just caught my attention when he came in. Despite the fact that he was filthy and was pretty beat up, he just seemed like he was there just for me. I lost in the bidding cause dad walked away and I didn't know how much money I had, but I caught up with the lady that won him and she sold him to me right there. I just figure it was meant to be.

That would be the witch Bacardi :D She is just fine....although she only drives double right now...and when she does, I have to tie her to the other horse (collar-to-collar) to keep her from going up. Hawk just LOVES when he has to team with her :)

Horse's Name: Big Deal ("Biggs")
Breed: Paint/TB
Age:8
Height:16.1hh
Discipline(s): Everything :) Western/English, just started jumping!
Story (if you'd like =]): I've owned him for a year this month! Bought him from a trainer who's student just up and left him in her pasture because she couldn't handle or afford him. I went and saw him once and without even riding him, bought him :) I pretty much did everything wrong as far as the buying process goes but I ended up getting extremely lucky as we fit together perfectly and he's never had any soundness/health issues for the whole year I've had him (knock on wood) We have a great bond and it seems like with every ride we progress, he's very sensible and even tempered, not to mention beautiful!

Horse's Name: Blackwater Gold - "Levi"
Breed: Quarter Horse
Age: 22
Height: 15.3
Discipline(s): Hunter/Jumper
Our Story (I'll just post the one I already wrote):
I remember receiving the call that would change my life. I was sitting in my parent’s office, writing a paper for one of my college classes when the phone rang. I checked the caller id and felt my heart leap—the digital display showed a name I thought I'd never see again. It was the woman who had bought Levi in 2000 and moved him to her farm in Oxford, Ohio in 2001, Cassie. When she bought him, I had been leasing him from his previous owner for almost three years. I hadn’t talked to her in over a year. I visited him once after he moved, but he was a completely different animal out there and I remember telling myself I wouldn’t go back there to visit him, it was just too hard for me.
I didn’t know why she would be calling me, except maybe if something terrible had happened to him. I picked up the phone tentatively and listened as Cassie explained that she had given birth to a baby girl a year before and was now pregnant with number two, and she just didn’t have the time to give to Levi any more. She told me she knew the best place for him was with me because she knew I loved him and would spoil him rotten, which is what she wanted. She just wanted to know he was going to a good home, and she couldn’t think of a better one than with me. I was so touched that she would call me after over a year….my heart in my throat, I asked her how much she wanted for him. She told me that price wasn’t an issue to her, and whatever I thought was fair and what I could afford, she would take. I was a college junior paying my own way through, so I couldn’t “spare” very much money, but this was not something I would not pass up. I had carried around regret for the past three years, since Levi had been sold to Cassie and I hadn’t bought him. I was only 17 at the time that Cassie, but my hindsight always told me I could’ve made it work. I knew this time I was going to do it, I was going to buy Levi! I told Cassie I would call her back, that I wanted him but had to see how much I could afford. I hung up the phone and immediately opened Microsoft Excel, plugging in numbers: hay, farrier, feed, board, VET. I had to get an idea of my monthly expenditures so I knew how much I could offer Cassie from my modest checking account. I figured out approximately how much I would spend on him monthly, and then called the manager of the barn he had been boarded at when I leased him. I was so excited when I asked her if there would be a stall available for me to bring Levi back. She was thrilled for me when I told her the news and said there actually was going to be an opening and I was in!
I called Cassie back and made her my offer. I explained to her my reasoning: he’s 17 now, he hasn’t been really ridden in two years, and I can only afford $850…..she accepted without missing a beat, telling me she really only wanted him to go to me. Afterward, I wondered if I could have offered her much less, but I thought $850 was a pretty great deal to get my best friend back! No horse had ever captured my heart like Levi.
I arranged for a vet check and transportation, and on March 22, 2003 I brought Levi home. He had loaded into the trailer in Oxford like a champ and traveled quietly, with me looking back in excitement all the while, thinking Levi is MINE! After I unloaded him from the trailer, he looked around and gave a great sigh, as if thinking, “It’s about time I got to come home!” Then he promptly lowered his head to graze, settling right back in.
Later on I watched him eat hay in his stall, telling everyone who walked by, “I own Levi!” It was the best feeling in the world knowing he was mine after I had leased him from two different owners. Ten days later (after quarantine), when he got to go out in pasture with his old buddies, I had tears in my eyes as he joyously greeted Jay, Nick, Cody, Jesse, Dio, C.G., Dodger, and all of his other long-lost friends. It was then I realized that not only was Levi making my dreams come true, perhaps I was making his come true as well.

Horse's Name: Christmas in July aka Chrissy
Breed: registered american quarter horse and registered paint
Age: 7
gender: mare
Height: 15.2hh
Discipline(s): halter, english and western pleasure
Story (if you'd like =]): Well, when I was looking for a horse to buy, I was riding my friend's horse at the barn where Chrissy was at. The BO told me that she was for sale, but I didn't want her. After looking for a couple months unsuccessfully, and having troubles with my friends horse, we decided that it would be best if I showed Chrissy for the rest of the summer until she sold. So I ended up getting along with Chrissy and after showing her with great success, we ended up buying her :)

I have a 17 y.o. appy mare we call "Gypsy." Got her from a woman who thought she had ringbone and she wouldn't hold up to much riding. The inflammation wasn't set yet and I was able to reduce it. I've had her 4-5 yrs and she's a pretty good circle horse. I never jump her (except creeks or logs when working cows), and, she has that odd superficial nerve running along her ribs that prevents me from cinching very snugly -- like what would be required for roping. Mostly she's just good for covering country.

Have a gelding that's about 8. Call him 8-ball. He's just good at anything I need. A neighbor uses him for doctoring cattle, too. I quit roping when I lost my roping partner that I trusted. I can rope as an assist, but not well enough to save the day if anything goes wrong.

Nice seeing and reading about everyone's horses.

This is Talent (TL Dusty Command Joe). He is a 2 1/2 year old foundation bred qh gelding. He has that one in a million dispostion, super laid back yet he's not lazy at all. Plus he's a total sweetie and extremely smart. Ive been showing him in trail in hand, halter, and longeline. I just started riding him this month and he's doing awesome.

This is Chase, he is a 6 year old paint gelding. Right now he's for sale. He doesn't like the kind of showing I do, but he loves trails and jumping. I just cant justify paying board on him when I only trail ride a few times a month:( But he's a total sweetie and I'm really sad to be selling him.

After a lot of drama I left my lesson barn and started searching for horses, I came upon this pretty little buckskin mare with not a lot of history in her ad and decided to ask about her. I was surprised with the pictures I recieved looked nothing like the ad, she looked more like a mule. She was only 2 hours away so we decided to take a look. It had just snowed about 3 feet so I couldn't do much riding, but something about her eyes I just clicked with her and needed this horse. She was impatient, skinny, and had a lot of unknown history but I loved her right away. So after finding that she hates geldings....but is one of the fastest learners ever Trouble and I have come a long way since March. She is my first and foremost dream horse and I love her to bits!

Arrow
10-21-2008, 07:32 PM
Horse's Name: Arrow

Breed: Spotted Saddle Horse

Age: 11

Height: 14.2 hh

Discipline(s): Trail riding

Story (if you'd like =]): I rode as a kid--had horses and ponies from age 10 to 17. Then no horse for 25 years until Arrow came along. I found that it took about 2 months for all the old skills to come back--muscle memory kicked in, and I felt that I could ride as well as I did when I was a teenager. But...I wonder if I cheated a little...Arrow's gaited--rocking horse canter and rack but no trot. He's so smooth...maybe he makes me look better than I am!

Me'N'Chic

Beautiful horses everyone!!

Me: I am Mary a 42 yearold new rider for a year and a half now!

Horse's Name: Ms. Millennium Chic (CHIC)

Breed: American Paint Horse

Age: 9

Height: 15.3 hh

Discipline (s): I have just been doing lots of trail-riding right now. I am gamed to try beginning dressage, some western, maybe mess with cows alittle --want to be versitile!

Story: My 12 year-old daughter became interested in horses a couple years ago. We got our fist horses April 2007--unbeknownst to me; mine was an OTTB who bolted with me--I bailed and got injury #1 a concussion and painful hip. Summer 2007 I got a quarter horse who ended up being spooky/bucky and often exploding for no reason--injury #2 a broken shoulder!

This March I traded (and paid some extra!) the QH for CHIC and THANKFULLY life has been GOOD! I just love her. I try to ride her about everyday and I have had no major issues--I am SOOO thankful--I pray she remains this way! I have learned to canter on her, taught her to neck rein, been on my first real trail rides with her, and am currently working on slowing her gaits and side-passing.

Hey Mary! Good to see you here! Chic is looking as pretty as ever. I never noticed how she had one tidy little streak of her mane brown.. That's pretty neat!

Going to post up on Melee,

Horse's Name: Melee

Breed: Paint/Draft GRADE

Age: 7

Height: 15.0hh

Discipline (s): Was used as a barrel horse, but he will now be my new trail horse and occasional barrel horse as Tyke is getting older... :(

Story: After deciding to sell my mare I began to look around for different horses as I wanted to pursue my dream of getting into speed events. I looked forever around the internet when a less-than-beautiful paint caught my eye. I passed over him a couple times, then decided to email the owners about him. Come to find out his name is Snickers and his owners used him for barrels. I passed on him and kept looking for different horses.. but a couple weeks later went back to his ad and decided to set up a time to visit him since it couldn't hurt and he was only 45 minutes away. I went there thinking I wasn't going to buy him. Then I saw him in a small stall.. he got backed out, tied up.. Couldn't help but notice what a kind, gentle, and seemingly sad eye Snickers had. Asked the guy to saddle him up and take him for a ride so I could see how he did under saddle. The first thing he did was buck the guy off and I was half thinking just to go back to the car but I decided to give Snickers another chance. He did perfect after that. I got on him and rode him around, then had the guy get on him again. I fell in love. A few hours after I got home I emailed them and told them I'd take him. Deal!
He got here, was picked on pretty badly by my other horses. Well, I decided to ride him.. And whattya know, I got bucked off. Found out it was a pain issue(I believe).. Rode him a couple days later(walk/trot) after it was corrected, he was perfect. Rode him with a few friends a couple days after that.. perfect! My boyfriend loped him. I in no way regret getting him, he's a sweetie, and I can't wait to make many more memories with him. :)

No idea how I missed this thread! Everyone has such nice horses and some very cool stories to go with them!

Horse's Name: Storm
Breed: Appy/QH
Age: 8
Height: 14.2
Discipline(s): Hoping to put him behind some cows next year
Story (if you'd like =]): Most of you know how I got Storm, I'll do a short version of the story! I met Vicklynn in a chatroom at the site she won city from. We talked in there and posted on each other's threads. I knew she had Storm up for sale at this time and just making conversation in chat asked her how that was going along. A couple days later she left me a message on yahoo that she needed to talk to me. That's when she told me more about Storm and his past, then offered him to me for free. I was shocked and honestly, still am almost 2 years later. I won't ever understand why she felt I was the right person for him, but I am honored and blessed to have him in my herd. He is a great horse. He has his issues due to his past before Vicky got him but she brought him a long, long way. I just need to get off my lazy butt and finish getting him broke so I can enjoy trying him on some cows.
Pictures!:

Horse's Name: PD Heartthrob aka Pedey
Breed:APHA
Age:7
Height:15.3 my giant of the herd
Discipline(s):Barrel prospect, gaming horse, and trail horse
Story (if you'd like =]): Pedey came to me from another friend on the same forum Storm did. My friend was having some issues with being scared of him, mostly after she'd had 2 accidents that destroyed her confidence. Pedey is a very big boy and did have some bad habits, which made the intimidation worse for my friend. He's very sweet, just had personal space issues mostly. He was started as a 2yr old and rode for about a year before my friend just couldn't get over her fear of riding and he hadn't been rode until May of last year when another friend and I went up to where he lived and got on him. She offered him to me, again something I'll never understand and for the most part I have worked out his little issues and have been riding him. He's doing very well.

Horse's Name: Dixie
Breed: Pinto
Age: 5
Height: 14.2
Discipline(s): All around
Story (if you'd like =]): I was on my way to meet Vicklynn in Memphis to spend a girl weekend going to a CA clinic. Hubby called me and said 'Don't scream'. I'm thinking one of the boys got hurt. He says 'I bought another horse'. He even called Vick and told her and sent her pics. He said I got her for your anniverary gift. Aww how could I be mad at that? She's green but very calm. Hubby has ridden her and so have the boys. Hubby did get thrown from her in Aug when a truck slowed down, got even with him and reved the motor up, spooked her and I had to start her over. It really freaked her out hubby coming off. She is coming along very nicely though and is possibly bred. She is the Queen Bee of the herd.
Pictures!:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v225/dixiecowgirl26/Horses/queenbee.jpg

Horse's Name: Molly
Breed:Grade QH
Age: 2
Height: 14.0
Discipline(s): Hopeful kids mount
Story (if you'd like =]): We borrowed our neighbors trailer to get hay. Hubby took it back and came back to get a halter and lead. Came walking down the street with Molly. Neighbor gave her to him, he just had to many to feed. Was told she was 4 and they'd rode her a few times. She was thin, needed her hooves done and is only 2 and small. So right now she's just being a horse, getting fed good and learning the very basics as she knows NOTHING.

Pictures!: About a month after being on good pasture and being dewormed, she gained quickly and is almost perfect weight wise.

Horse's Name: Painted PJ aka Painted City aka City
Breed: APHA Paint
Age: 5
Height: 15.1
Discipline(s): Trails, pasture pet
Story (if you'd like =]): After genteling Storm, he was ready to break the following Spring, so I went out to a website and decided to see if I could win some gift certificates, get some things for him for the Spring. I ended up winning the grand prize. WOW, ok, WOW. So I went through the hoops, winning was only part of it, I had to qualify now. I did. I met City at Chris Cox' Ranch in Tx, took a week training on him, I was approved by Chirs to take City home. City is my love, he is my gift from God. Thats another story..lol

Horse's Name: Mystic aka Myst aka Momma
Breed: Pinto
Age: 6
Height: 15.1
Discipline(s): Trail, pasture pet
Story (if you'd like =]): I searched looking for a Paint so Bob and I could ride the APHA rides together, dang, they cost way to much and we can ride for free, so I quit, it didnt matter that the horse was APHA. I started looking around at other prospects, could not find one that was what I wanted. Needed a Husband safe horse. Then one day, I found her, talked to the owner for a couple hrs, and again, and again, fell in love with what he was saying, even the bad about her, which wasnt much. I loaded the trailer, took a drive, road her, had Bob get on her, loaded her up, wrote the check, and we took off. She has ended up being such a pleasure for us. She has over come her issues, and is a very very sweet girl. She may of not been paint, but she sure matches City. They make a great team.

Horse's Name: Baloo aka LuLu (BO calls him that), Frankie, Lou
Breed: Paint (cross?)
Age: 13
Height: 16 hands
Discipline(s): Dressage, Trails, Hunter paces. Foxhunting if I hit it rich! lol.
Story (if you'd like =]): I sold my TWH and started looking for a good, dependable horse to do hunter paces and such with. Well, Baloo was the second horse my trainer and I went to see and we both agreed he was "the one" so he came home with me a week later. So since then, we've been transforming him into the brilliant english horse that e is, and learning dressage together and started jumping, and have gotten to 2 hunter paces and various trail outings so far! I'm still convinced he's "the one!"

Horse's Name: Total Eclipse (Samson =D)
Breed:Traditional Irish Cob
Age:Eleven
Height:14.2hh
Discipline(s): English, (Compete eventing)
Story (if you'd like =]): Bought in Feb 2007 as a late birthday present from my dad whilst suffering social problems at school and life basically. My old riding trainer found him for me and true we didn't click at the start, but something told me not to let him go, and he has turned into the perfect horse for me. I'm proud to call him my own and he surprises me hugely by winning competitions and producing an outstanding performance! Lastly he is the hardest horse in the world to keep clean, I do try but with a cob that lives out all year round.. haha very hard xD!

Had an infection from a dirty gelding but cleared up. 2 weeks later was delivered to me. She taught me alot and I had her for 2yrs now. Breed: Arab/Morgan
Age: 28
Height:15hh
Discipline(s): Trail
Story: Rashad is my lease horse. He belongs to Shewasmyshadow. She can tell you more about him. But I met SWMS on another forum and we became friends. We rode together and one day she came to my house to ride and she let me ride Rashad. For some reason I felt safe on him and really liked the way he moved out. So I told her I would take him. Just joking of course. Well she was moving and had to put Rashad somewhere and was going to put him into a lesson program. Some how we talked and I ended up taking him to my house. He will be her for a year in July. He is going strong and I love him.

LOL. Faith is a newer rider with more guts then most experienced riders that I have known. Her strong desire to explore trails matches PERFECTLY with Rashad's equally strong trail riding exuberance and his fast, but easy ride. He's the only horse that I know that LOVES to trail ride as much as his rider. I got him when I was 12 yrs old and he saw me safely through my teen years and into college, marriage and children. I promised when I bought him that if he took care of me that I would take care of him. And he truly does care for his people he is being ridden by. He's cared for me, he's cared for my friends, he's cared for my siblings, my husband and now he's over at Farmers_wife's house caring for her and her children. He's treasure of a horse. Truly I feel that God's hand was working when he put Rashad in my life.

Rashad has sparked many a little girl's heart with a love for horses. Here's a picture of Faith's daughter Shelby riding Rashad...

Horse's Name: Hopi
Breed: Paint
Age: 2
Height:14.2hh (almooost)
Discipline(s): Won't be broke to ride for another year but I plan on doing barrels, reining and cow work with her along with trails :)
Story: Bought her mama pregnant from a nasty horse trader who didn't even bother to tell me she had bred the mare TWO DAYS before I went out to look at her. 11 months later Hopi was born!! It was love at first sight and despite her being unplanned and initially unwanted, she's here to stay. :D

Horse's Name: Whitney
Breed: Paint
Age: 15
Height: 15hh
Discipline(s): At the moment she's a pasture ornament, but she used to be a trail horse and a barrel horse. As soon as I find a good trainer I'll be getting her trained for western pleasure.
Story: Hopi's mom, was bought from a HORRIBLE horse trader 3 years ago, I was too stupid to know the difference. She was sedated and sold to me as a kid-safe, bombproof lesson horse who was GREAT on trails and most definitely not pregnant. ;) The next day I got her home and she was bouncing off the walls, bucking and rearing and spooking at everything. I know Whitney was never half as well trained as they made her out to be. Last summer I worked with her really consistently for about 3 months about got her to be very easy to ride in the ring, but she still has a number of bumps to work out. I'm considering selling her after she gets trained. We'll see.

Horse's Name: Auda
Breed: Suffolk cross
Age: 8
Height: 16hh
Discipline(s): Dressage :)
Story: Almost two years ago there was a thread on the Horse.com forum that said 90 mares off an embryo transplant farm going to slaughter if they couldn't find homes. With the help of the forumers and some donations we Auda and a few of her sisters where trailered from TX to NM, to NV to OR. They all got homes, but there were only a few that stayed in the forum family. I started training Auda to be a western trail horse, but after talking to Alissa (HPH) and a few of the boarders at my barn I decided she was better suited for Dressage and she REALLY excels at it. We also trail ride which she loves.

Horse's Name: Chica
Breed: 1/2 QH 1/4 Percheron 1/4 Morgan
Age: 8
Height: 15.1hh
Discipline(s): Currently just trails but we're training for cows and reining
Story: My dad bought Chica 4 years ago for a trail horse for him. She was supposedly a well broke trail horse who was 8 going on 9. He bought her sight unseen over the internet and we took a trip together a month later to pick her up. In a letter from the old owner and on her health certificate, it stated she had just turned 4 a month before we picked her up. When we saw her, she was lying down in a little pen. I went up to pet her and she lashed out and tried to bite me. Ever since that moment my dad has been terrified of her. She was very aggressive and would bite and kick anything in sight. We had to have her heavily sedated to get her feet trimmed for several months. My dad wouldn't let me ride her until May 2007 when my pony died and Whitney had just foaled and I didn't have a horse to ride. Riding her meant I was the only one exercising her and paying all her bills yet she was still somehow my dad's horse. Ever since then we fell in love. That summer I retrained her and turned her into the best horse I've ever met. There's not an ounce of buck, bite or kick in her. She'll do anything I ask just because I asked her. She's a great beginner's horse now. Any kid can get on her back and she's ever so sweet with them and will do all she can to keep them safe and confident and tries hard to figure out their mixed signals. Two months ago my dad finally signed her over to me. She'll be MY horse for the rest of her days. :D

Horse's Name: Katie
Breed: QH
Age: 8
Height: 15.2 HH
Discipline(s): Trail
Story (if you'd like =]): Been leasing Katie since Oct. of last year, although I've been working with her since August. We have really made a good bond between us. Had to work pretty hard just to get her out in the pasture at first, and now she just walks up to me and follows me around. I LOVE this horse.

Horse's Name: Koko
Breed: QH ?? not real sure.
Age: 8
Height: Approx. 15 HH
Discipline(s): Trail
Story (if you'd like =]): I don't know much about this horse as it belongs to a boarder of my aunts. They don't get to ride much anymore, so they asked me to work and ride her. The pic below is the first day that I ever worked/rode her, but I can tell that I'm going to like riding her alot. Very spirited, but whoever trained her at first did a pretty good job. She behaves very well with me and I think I could bond and love this horse as well.

Horse's Name: Marshall
Breed: Appaloosa
Age: 12
Height: 15 hh about 1150 lbs.
Discipline(s): Wonderful trail horse. Will go through, over or under anything.
Story (if you'd like =]): I purchased Marshall about 4 years ago from the barn where I work. They had purchased him from an auction and he wasn't working out as a beginner trail horse at the time. He had such an amazing personality and I fell in love. He had a little bit (actually a lot ) of a bucking problem. You couldn't ask him to canter without him bucking...you couln't ride him bareback without bucking and if he didn't wanna do something he would buck. I tried different saddles, different saddle pads...he didn't seem to be in pain at all. I worked with him for quite some time and am to the point now where he will do anything I ask...WITHOUT BUCKING! We can w/t/c with or without the saddle and I can now trust him with the younger girls that work at the barn. I am so proud of him and me because I learned as he learned and it was a great experience for me as well as him. I am so glad he is mine and I would never give him up for anything!

Horses name: Miss Sadie (pending)
Breed: Paint
Age: 11
Height: 15.2
Discipline: Trails/barrels
Story: I just got her. She's already taught me some more patience then I'd already had with horses and because of her lack of a desire to get into a trailer... and because of that, my boss taught me some really colourful new words! lol ;)
She was a school horse at one point in her life, then sold to some bad people. They abused her and starved her almost to death, then sold her to the meat buyer. A lovely gal named Carrie recognized her (from the school) after the auction and bought her from the meat man. She brought her back to health and then started her on barrels. She (Sadie) doesn't trust easy, but once you have it she'll do anything for you. We're still getting to know each other, but I can tell it's coming. She already looks for kisses and hugs from me....and cookies! She has started nickering when she see's me or hears my voice, so it's a long road but we're on our way. She's going to be my trail horse and hopefully a great little barrel horse one day. I love her to death, she's the sweetest soul and I think she's beautiful too!
