Well when I was 13 and showing horses went on the back burner because of financial and family problems...I found a new way to show horses.

Yup....model horses.:p And even in this time of my life when I am almost 17 years old I still show Breyer and Peter Stone models. I show them in live halter shows where the model are judged similar to real horse halter shows. Of course there are no patterns, but the horses are judged on confirmation...as well as how well it represents the breed...and in model horses its collectability. I found it an interesting way to learn more about horses and meet other people who share the interest. I have also earned quite a few ribbons.

I plan on entering another show this January. I have recieved some new models from friends and family but I am stubbed on what breed to show them under. There really isn't any restriction...I have a Salerno (rare European warmblood) and as long as I have a little information next to my model at the judging table he does just fine.

So I was wondering what breeds you think these horses resemble the best?

I showed him as an Appaloosa in the last show and he didn't place. Does anyone else have any other ideas...the mold doesn't really have the typical Appaloosa look

I was thinking Morgan?! I don't really know...

I was thinking Trakner on this one...I read that all colors were acceptable but I am not 100% sure that is correct.

This one no clue. Too small for a typical Throughbred...too refined for the halter Quarter Horse...

The first one could go as a Knabstrupper if there is a breed category for it...? lol. It's kind of like and Appaloosa Warmblood.

Hmm.maybe the last one is an appendix? lol since it's like a TB but not as heavy as a QH, meet in the middle!

Wow that's cool. I have a lot of model horses. Wish I could do that.

1. Maybe a Mustang? I'm not sure.

2. I don't know.

3. Can thoroughbreds be any color? He looks just like a Thoroughbred.

4. Is Quarab a category? I think I see some Quarter Horse and Arabian there.

Horselvr2478 is telling me that the last picture is the same mold they are using for Theodore OConnor, a thoroughbed that was only 14.1 hands and considered to be a pony. This is based on what she has at work (Dan's Boots and Saddles here in Albuquerque).

Dandy21 says:

For the first one I would show it in a Mustang class. All colors are acceptable (obviously) and I believe that mold was originally a mustang, though I could be confused.

The foals are used for Morgan/Quarter Horse/almost anything. I think pretty much anything within reason would go.

The third is a TB mold. But paints aren't a recognized color for that breed. (I'm looking for something to sugges, or a website that suggests breeds for models).

The last I believe is a Classic sized TB.

O thats a good one...yes there are very general classes like light horses...sport horse...other purebred/mix

Yeah he is the Theodore O'Connor model I got him for Christmas :D. I have been debating on putting him as an Appendex or Throughbred Sport's Pony. I don't know if he would do too well in the Pony classes but its worth a shot.

Yeah he is a gorgeous model and Breyer has him going as a Paint Horse though I don't think he resembles one too well. I could have him as some Throughbred Cross.

It is pretty cool and I find it cool that my models I got when I was 6 could actually do more than collect dust. I'll be the first to admit that its kinda funny that a 17 year old still "plays" with toy horses but I have meet a lot of cool people by doing...like I did joining the forum.

The Breyer Horse Website has an Event link that shows when they are having shows. http://www.breyerhorses.com/events/results.php?region=midwest

Theodore was a mix, not purebred.

1. Mustang or Tiger Horse
2. That one is hard being a foal. Morgan would work.
3. Paint - they can have a lot of TB,
4. Pindos Pony, Hackney, Caspian
