Since Patriots thread keeps getting buried, thought I would start a new one.

Ok, many of you know that Patriots had a bad fall and hasn't been able to work due to her injuries. She is tight financially and needs HAY for the winter. If she can't get enought hay for the winter she may have to sell Dreamer. WE DON"T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN!!! She has had Dreamer since he was 5 months old...he is now 3 yrs old. We have all seen how much she has doen with him.

She even helped another forum member out this past year when RR was loosing her ranch. Patriots has been a big help on the forum and I am hoping that everyone can help out.

I am trying to find out WHERE she will be getting her hay from. How much it costs to get delivered and how much she actually needs. She is in Edwardsville, ILL. We were thinking of using PayPal, but I know some of you are leary of that....so...I am trying to coordinate with Patriots, what the final numbers will be.....worst case....I can order and pay for the hay and have everyone send their donations to me AFTER I have paid for it.

She has one person she can get hay from, but he doesn't deilver. The other guy that will deliver is $1 more per bale and charges about $75 to $100 to deliver.

So can we please rally to help her out?

Oh - please pass on my love and best wishes to Patriotz.
I really, wish I could help - but I am a minor, I've just turned 14 and I'm not allowed to do / have any access to what I'd need for this, I wish I wish I wish I could help! I honestly do, I hate this stuck feeling - it doesn't help that I'm in a complete different country too. ((( hugs ))) to Patriotz, good luck, best wishes and I'm so sorry I can't help through this, I'm so sorry!

I'll sticky this for awhile so it doesn't get buried.

Using Paypal, or alternately mailing a check, to funnel money through one person sounds easiest on Patriots.

Remember our due caution reminders since we all just signed up here from the other forum.

As I said in her other thread I'm in to help with what I can! I'll be waiting eagerly for more info. Country Girl, you're awesome for starting the rally! I can't imagine being in her situation, I'd be just beside myself with fear and pain. Don't worry Patriot's, the forum family is here to help! :)

Have her post an ad on her local craigslist. That's what I do. I just post an ad asking for people who have good horse quality hay and is willing to deliver as I don't have a truck or trailer. It's amazing the offers that pop up!

OK - Here's what I want to propose, just to ensure for everyone's peace of mind that we have some measure of caution on verification of screen identities.

I'd like for Patriots, and whoever you guys choose to handle money and organize this, to help me be able to vouch that you are indeed the same people we all know from over there. The easiest way I can think of to do that is to do a little cross posting between forums. Now... they are frowning on posting links to here over there, or any mention of this forum, and we probably shouldn't push our luck on that or do anything overt. But we can do a secret ninja code type verification, and we'll use JackieB's birthday thread as the place, unless you think of something better.

So - Patriots, Country Girl (or whoever is going to be organizing and handling money) go to JackieB's birthday thread today and, using your old screen name say "Happy Birthday Jackie!" and slap him with this fish smiley:
:trout:

Or just use the one that's over there.

Then report it back here!

What does this prove? It proves that you are the same poster, and you bring with you here whatever authenticity and credibility you had over there. :D And it give me a chance to slap Jackie with a fish a few to several times without actually having to do it myself! Win win. :D What do you all say?

Mandzanita
10-10-2008, 01:38 PM
Haha...I don't find some good 'ole fish slapping. So we do that do or just Patriots and Country Girl? I think I'm gonna answer my own question and say just them....dang I wanted to fish slap :(

WashingtonBay
10-10-2008, 01:41 PM
I think only those who are going to be receiving money need to do this... there's not a whole lot of risk from those who are sending donations.

And I hate to do it, but having a test of trust this early in the forum's life, I'd like to at least cover us from an opportunist taking advantage of us right off the bat.

It's certainly not any indication I don't trust them, it's just I think there's some responsibility to trust but verify that we are helping the person we want to help!

Hey, anything and everything helps! Once I can get the final numbers, I will let everyone know. Patriots and I are working on a few things, so everyone will SEE receipts and so on. It will probably be easiest, if I can front what funds I KNOW will be coming in, then have everyone just send to me......Once we have it all in place, I will confirm and let you all know, with concrete proof too! :)

Patriots hasn't been back on since this afternoon, so I am waiting for her to call me.....

As my grandma would say "I'm so mad right now I could just spit"! (Why spit? I never figured that out:huh:) I was just over on h.com and I ran across CG's "help" thread for PD... they are being horrible! Ex's comment was incredibly snotty and then I never expected Hunter to stoop like that - I've not seen her be mean before... I am very disappointed, mad and sad all at the same time... you know that feeling when people let you down.

Anyway, I would like to help with what little we can spare as well so I will keep checking back for the paypal details or check or whatever.

Country Girl 43
10-11-2008, 05:58 AM
Thanks Sedona...I jumped on here real quick to see if Patriots had tried to contact me. I'm off to work but will check back later this evening.

I was really surprised at the comments too.... Patriots played a BIG part in helping RR in her time of need. Plus it shouldn't matter which forum we choose to be on. A friend is a friend and I know she still has friends over at h.com that don't/won't come over here, and that is fine, it's their choice. I just wanted to alert those that are not aware of Patriots situation.

Country Girl, thanks for all your doing and the rest of you too. Don't let a few turkeys get us off track and loose focus on what's important here, and that's PD and her need for help. Remember the old saying, "no good deed goes unpunished".

I am in this to help my forum member out.
I hear you about h.com. and some have asked me not to leave.
Im sorry, but THAT was the last straw.
Especially Beth, wow, I know she hasnt replied to any of my posts in some time,
and Im not sure why, but it seemed to me, and a couple other forum members
that were were starting to be a different couple of groups, ya know, the A group
The B group and so on. Well, yesterday sure proved it to me.
So, to you all here at WB, you are now my family forum, I left 2 forums in one post last night.

I've just got four words to say (well, OK maybe a few more, but you'll get the point). God Bless (or Blessings On) Country Girl 43! She's merely encouraging us to show a little bit of the kindness that should be in all of our hearts anyway, but that Patriots absolutely deserves after working tirelessly to help another forum member in a tough spot last winter.

Although we were surprised at a couple of the reactions at the old place, I did see that several members volunteered to help. That's at least a few more bales of hay and bless you for posting over there, Country Girl.

I'm in the same boat as everyone else as far as finances but I can do something. PayPal is fastest but yet if a check is better [Will PayPal take a fee if we all pay by PayPal?] I will send that, as soon as there is information I will do what I can.

I can not even imagine having her having to sell that horse. I know he's her love. I lost my first horse because he died but if I had to sell him because of funds I think I would have died. I hope that everything works out. Those who can help will, I'm staying away from the other forum because my computer dies when ever I go there but it sounds like it's not too pleasant anymore. Not sure why. I find it very sad but not much anyone can do just feel sad that friends there are turning on friends here for a reason I don't understand. I just want everyone to be happy and want PD to be able to keep her boy.

Just checking in to see if there were any updates. I am really shocked and sad by a couple of the nasty comments at h.com, that really is too bad. Anyway, I know how tough it is and how sad it is to have to let a horse go.....so maybe I can help out a little bit too, so I will just keep popping back on here and looking for updates. When I lost my mare Kara, and when things got so bad for me earlier this year (Cody and all that), my friends from the forum were there for me....there are so many amazing and kind people out there.

Hello Everyone...sorry, I had to work all day....I did get a pm from Patriots and tried to call her. She attempted to work last night, but didn't get through her shift, because of not feeling well. :( Right now she is feeling pretty down. She doesn't want to ask anyone for help. I explained that SHE hasn't asked anyone for anything. With all the responses I have gotten, here and over at the other place, we should be able to set Dreamer up for enough hay to get through the Winter.

I posted my e-mail on the "other" forum since PM's don't work over there.

I just need to find out WHERE the hay will be going and if we have anything left over, maybe get whatever supplements she uses and so on. She is more concerned about Dreamer not getting food, because she can't work right now. I have let her know that WE (forum family) won't let him starve.

Words can't express how I feel on how the Forum Family has come together. It's so heartwarming. We have a friend in need and all are ready to help! I am trying to find someone near Edwardsville, Ill that can help me coordinate, the ordering and delivering of the hay. Once I get her address where to deliver, we can set the whole thing in motion. I will keep you all updated. I can be reached by PM's.

Thanks JackieB for the kind words. I just want to help a friend that has helped many of us at one time or another.

vicklynn
10-11-2008, 08:42 PM
Hey CG, if the moneys cover her hay and there is left over, can we pay board, or at least part of it? That would take her mind off worries for him at least. Just a thought.

WashingtonBay

OK Country... we'll look forward to an update.

JackieB
10-11-2008, 08:48 PM
Thanks, Country Girl 43. Please do emphasize with Patriots that she didn't ask for anything. You asked her if providing some hay for Dreamer might be of help and others of us were certainly thinking along the same lines.

And not only would Patriots do the same for any of us, but she did in a huge way last winter. Those of us who are able to help financially will certainly get at least as much out of helping as Patriots and Dreamer will out of receiving the help. And those who can only send their best wishes either because they cannot spare money or are not allowed (minors) to donate will be doing their part, too.

What's that line from the Beatles song? "In the end, the love you get is equal to the love you give."

No she didn't ask. We all offered. When I first read the post about maybe selling Dreamer I thought OH NO but I had no clue what to even do to help. I've never been good in emergency situations, I'm glad others are and stepped up to organize. I'm sure if it was one of us she'd be there too. There is not one of us who is above what happened to her, it can happen to any of us at any minute of any day. It would be bad enough if it was a horse she wasn't attached to but this is her baby and for her health and his she needs to be able to keep him. I'll be waiting for the next step.

I think I put it on the other thread but I think we should pay by paypal or at least send the money to one person. Then you can keep a running total of how much was donated, buy the hay and use the rest for board or however Patriots sees fit! We gotta help her keep Dreamer!!!:)

i hate to hear of any horse being sold because of the uncertain life it may have...when a horse is clearly loved and well cared for, helpin' to keep it fed thru a temporary crisis sure isn't alot to ask...i'd have different opinions if it were for other necessities....if everyone on this forum committed to just $5 the warm feeling we'de all get knowing this horse has a full tummy thru the cold winter is well worth it....

thanks all...i'm feelin' the love:) i'm really passionate about animals and animal welfare...for all the comfort, patience and unconditional love they give us, our human race sure could step up more for their well being...this situation is a good opportunity to either educate or remind others that our companion animals need us as much as we need them......there certainly isn't a waiting list of lovin' homes wanting to take on the responsibility of a horse...to loose just one lovin' home willing and wanting to provide all this horse needs would be a sad loss for anyone who truly cares about horses....to have it happen only because of a little pocket change explains why our society is such a mess...patriots, i'd be disappointed if you didn't accept the help you need right now.....lots of us really do care about you and your horse...it's the cowgirl way:cowboy:

First of all, I have to say that Im glad that I joined this forum, the other one has just gotten rude & insulting. Embarrassing, some of the comments over there.
I wish there was a way I could help out. Do you have to have a VISA for a paypal account? I might be able to send her a few bucks, but I don't have a visa. I don't have a chequing acct either. I really really want to help her out. She's a sweet gal with a horse that loves her unconditionally. OK guys here we go. First and foremost, thank youe everyone for the suggestions, prayers, wishes, friendship, help and encouragement that you have given me. I have decided i am going to do what i can to keep Dreamer. I thought keeping him would be selfish of me, but someones post about how much it would affect Dreamer too is what really got me. I didnt even think about that part, i thought i was being selfish keeping him. But as you all know, he is the horse that quits eating when i go on vacation, what would happen if i sold him and was gone? I think i worry too much about everything but hey what can i say.
I attempted to work last night. I lasted until close but it literally took every ounce of everything i have to stay and was totally exhausted by the end. This is also why i missed countrygirls phone call. I made 78, and put 40 in my gas tank, the rest will go in the bank to go to bills. As soon as i have enough for what dreamer needs i am definately waiting to work as my doc wasnt thrilled that i was going to work whether he released me or not and said i shouldnt even being attempting to work for atleast 4-6 more weeks. Its funny what you will put yourself through for the things you love.

I have 7 1/2 bales left of hay as of today. I called around for hay tonight. I found a guy off of craigslist located a half hour from me that has horse quality hay. The highest is like 5 a bale and has some for 4.50. I felt totally comfortable with what he was saying over the phone, and am going to look at it tomorrow. Ill pick up a couple bales of what i think dreamer will eat( they said they will load it, i can have my b/o unload the few bales but dont want him to do more cause he is over 70 but in good shape though), just so we know Mr. picky will eat the stuff. We are going to talk about how much delivery will be tomorrow in person, i am going to tell him my sitaution in person and see if we cant work somethiong out but he is almost an hr away from my barn though.
Countrygirl when you see this, i tried to call you a couple times in a row, but it wasnt ringing when i would call so i dont know if it went through or not??? you may have a couple missed calls from me, sorry. when you see this call me!

As soon as countrygirl and i talk about some stuff and work it out, we will post more on specifics and what not.

OK....Patriots and I FINALLY talked on the phone today! It's coming together! She is going to meet the hay guy in the morning, then get back to me. I was thinking about Paypal and for those who REALLY want to use Paypal I can send an invoice via e-mail, however, Paypal does charge to receive money though. So....if it is OK with everyone, I would just have all donations come to me and I can cut a large check to Patriots. This way, if there are any "weird" people out there, funds are coming to a neutral address and not near Dreamer...if you know what I mean.

If everyone is comfortable with that let me know. You can PM me and I will give you my address. I won't post it on the forum for obvious reasons.

Patriots, I am glad you will accept our help.....I know you didn't ask for help, but every now and then we all need help sometime. We are here for you and Dreamer!! Hang in there girl!

Im glad that you are keeping Dreamer. He's going to be right where he wants to be. There is a connection between you 2 that is beyond amazing. That horse would walk through fire for you! Keep your chin up & keep looking forward. There are a lot of people who care enough about you & your horse to help keep him right where he belongs & wants to be! I am still trying to think of a way to get $$$ to you without having to rely on CanadaPost! I really want to help you Patriots, as do a lot of other people!

CG, you are also an amazing person! What a great friend you are to pull the weight like this for Patriots! God bless both of you!

I'm so glad you're keeping Dreamer! YAY! xD

I feel pretty bad about writing out a check for only $5.00.:( That's kind of lame... but I really don't have a lot to spare unfortunately; I come from a very poor family and money is tight for me too. But I want to at least help out a little bit! So I'll be pming you soon, CountryGirl, for your address so I can send my donation.:)

Well I am a minor so I'll have to talk to my parents about sending some money up to Patriots, I worked over the summer and wouldn't mind giving $20.00. What Patriotz and Dreamer has is very special and I couldn't see him happy with anyone else. I live probably a good 4 hours away from Edwardsville, but I have family down that way and I can see if they know anyone selling horse quality hay..since they are into cattle.

I just wanted everyone to know that is helping me that i am very thankful i have you guys here to support me in times like these. Dreamer im sure is very thankful too. Dreamer and i both just wanted to thank everyone that is helping, and a special thanks to Countrygirl for organizing all this and for all the emotional support she has given me not only over the internet but on the phone last night. It really does mean alot to me.

Just wanted to know if everyone wants to keep this thread going...or start a new one??? The ball is rolling and in place. The PO is closed today, so I will be over nighting some funds to Patriots tomorrow morning. I have received some funds through Paypal from a few people and I am also contributing, so at least I can get a check to Patriots NOW for at least a 1/2 load of hay. Then when I receive the checks from those that are sending checks/MO, I will send a second bulk check to Patriots so she can get the second load.

It's little bit more work, but at least Dreamer will be getting the hay and Patriots won't have to wait till we have the full amount.

Also, anyone want to help reply to e-mails and PM's to give directions on where to send pmts. I have been at this darn computer since 8AM this morning and it is now 2:30PM and I still haven't gotten out to wash the paint off Ladybird.

Let's do this......once I know who can help me out with notifications, I will start a new thread with contact info for me and a second volunteer. It's all coming together.....I just need some help responding to everyone. Then WB can sticky the new thread!

geez I hope all of that made sense.....I am going buggy from being on the computer all day!

Patriots, with my fixed income, and Gypsy's feed and supplements, I don't even have a dime to spare! But what I have that most people don't, is time to sit at this computer!

Is Dreamer on any supplements? If so, maybe I could help by finding the cheapest way to get them?

If not, maybe there's something else I can do to help?

Its ok, just lend me your friendship and encouragement. Sometimes that goes farther. Dreamer is not on any supplements. I did have him on BOSS but i didnt really see a difference with it and think he did better without it so i took him off of it. now all he is on is strategy which i buy from the feed store right by my house so i save on gas.

I am going to try to get ahold of my friend casey who sold her mule about using her blanket this winter if she still has it. Dreamer has to have a blanket because he will literally shiver. Sadly the one i used last year does not fit him this year .. he is too long now. Im pretty sure she still has it, if not, ill see if my bf's mom has one i can borrow. He just doesnt grow that much of a winter coat! I still have a couple months to get that in line though.

I really, wish I could help - but I am a minor, I've just turned 14 and I'm not allowed to do / have any access to what I'd need for this, I wish I wish I wish I could help! I honestly do, I hate this stuck feeling - it doesn't help that I'm in a complete different country too. Patriots--what size blanket does Dreamer need? I have some brand new ones I bought for my TWH's that we never used. I'll send one your way if it's the right size! I forget what brand and sizes I have. I'll go up to the barn tomorrow and look.

Ill have to have my bo measure him to get the exact size. Ill get back to you on that and try and see if they can do it tomorrow. last year he had a 71 i think and its entirely too small.

If it's ok with your parents then fine, but make sure they know what's going on and if they are not comfortable, then don't do anything against their wishes. I don't want any minors getting into trouble.... I am glad that you want to help, REALLY, but it must be approved by your parents.....

Don't worry my parents are too good at punishment for me not to include them. I talked a little with my mom about it her stance is its my money and I can do what I would like with it...within reason. But I still need ask my dad, and if he for some reason doesn't feel comfortable I can always bring my prayers and encouragement to the table.

Maybe getting a temporary post office box # to send donations to would help free up time. One could just post the box address & PD could pick them up there. That would also be pretty safe.
What name should we make the checks out to? Thanks

Well, I've looked into this and I'm not sure if it'll work, but...

You know how on web pages they have like, Google Ads? Well, when you click on one of them; a small amount of money goes to the person who signed up for them (see where this is going? ;)). It could be possible (correct me if I'm wrong) to set up a freewebs page and just cover it in Google Ads and then if everyone from the forum clicks on say..1 link a day it could (possibly..maybe) make quite a bit of $$$.

Just an idea, and I'm probably wrong, so good luck to PD, best wishes and I'm thinking of you :)!

I just wanted to give a little update. Dreamer is eating the "test" bale currently and is cleaning it up well. We had originally planned on getting the first half of hay wensday( tomorrow), i just checked the forcast and its sapposed to rain! I did talk to my brother in law, he is off wensday and thursday this week, and can definately move the hay for me which means we can save the .75 per bale for delivery. Im thinking we will probably do it thursday because its sapposed to be clear that way we dont risk getting the bales wet! You guys have no idea how stoked i am about this. I plan on posting pictures thursday after we get the hay for you all to see!!!
