Can anyone dig up any sites on this topic?
NO, I'm not going to use it as a dewormer-- there is someone who thinks its the best way to deworm a horse and works efficiently with no side effects. I want to prove them wrong before they start trying to feed cigarettes to my horses again(unfortunately it seems I have no control on this situation, so..)
Help, anyone?

Actually it is chewing tobacco, not from cigarettes., cigs contain chenicals. And while it does work it is not as effective as moderen worming pastes.

I know a lot of old farts that feed a cigarettes to horses. Horses seem to like them, consider it a treat. I don't think there's harm in it but I suspect if tobacco even kills worms, it would take a lot more than one cigarette. I do remember an old horse care book suggesting you could kill tape worms by putting tobacco in their butt... A tobacco enema. Tell him to try that instead, if he really wants to help ;)
Punch line though, these days... Cigarettes are a lot more expensive than wormer.
Here are some quotes you can print and show them:
"Keeping Parasites Under Control Emily Decker, DVM
March 2006
Chewing tobacco is toxic to horses, so why would anyone give it to their horse? Many years ago, tobacco was used as a dewormer for horses. Owners had to risk the sometimes deadly side effects of tobacco to prevent problems with parasites. Thanks to major improvements in veterinary medicine, a multitude of safe, effective and affordable dewormers are available to horse owners and we no longer need to take this risk. "
"Before 1940 the only compounds used to deal with parasitism were natural substances that had some effect on parasites but also risked some toxicity to the horse. A few worked by increasing movement in the intestines in an effort to expel parasites. Tobacco was popular because nicotine is a mild anthelmintic. "---http://www.pfizerah.com/health.aspx?country=US&species=EQ&lang=EN&drug=P&t=2071&key=355&type=3&sec=
(Note the term mild anthelmentic. In order to be truly effective you would have to give a large enough dose to the horse to be toxic to the horse itself.)
I would print this whole article for them:

"
A hundred years ago, there wasn't much in the average veterinarian's arsenal that was effective against parasitic infections. Most of the treatments were based on folklore rather than fact, or were so toxic to the horse that the cure was likely to be worse than the disease. In the 1800s, for example, tobacco juice and opium were two common "de-wormers;" neither had much effect on the parasites. "
"
Tobacco
Tobacco and its derivatives (nicotine, nicotine sulphate) have been used as dewormers, particularly for fowl. With other farm animals, the mortal dose is practically the same for the worms as for the animals themselves!"--

Why would anyone give anything to your horse without your permission? And why would you not be able to stop them?

I have a feeling this is probably a parental figure doing this, which always complicates things.

some guy tried to convince me chewin tobacco was a great wormer.. Im now divorced from him..
Sorry but if it causes so much damage to humans I'd hate to see what it could do to animals...

I have been struggling for years to convince my husband to stop chewing tobacco. He will leave it in his mouth at night, gag on it, and have a seizure. (He has epilepsy) It is extremely frustrating and stressful for me to deal with.
No reason to get my horse addicted to the stuff. Yuck. I think it would burn a hole in their stomach. The cowboys that did it were addicted to chew anyway and probably thought they were giving their horses a well deserved treat!!!

Haha I think my mom would agree with you there.;)
