what you believe?

When you asked for documentation- I thought of this book- LOL. It has shaped my thinking. If I wrote it I would name it- Inside Russia and the heart of the KGB.
But I did not write it.

Sergei wrote it. He grew up in a Russian orphanage. He left Russia and came to the states when he was still a young man. He was killed because he would not keep his mouth shut.

The book is the Persecutor - by Fleming H. Revell and published 1973- the year he died.
His job was to persecute the believers (in Jesus) in Russia which starts on pg. 112. There is a lot to this book before he works for the KGB. I have met Russians who dont know this story. They did not live in Sergei's world.

Everyone who treasures freedom should read this book- and not just the church.
Sergei gave his life to tell us what he said.

Second book- The Eagle has Landed. You probablly saw the movie. The book is more in depth. The author went to a church graveyard in England where Nazi's were burried. He thought this was strange. He researched this story all over the world for 20 years if memory is correct.

This story taught me many things- but I remeber this one clearly - you never want to be taken to the secret room.

I pulled Rums post from another thread-

"IKWYM, Mollie about being scared of "them".

My son had a very scary visit from Homeland Security about 6 months ago.......I am not paranoid, I know they can take someone away and you would never know where they were. Because that is what HSA told my son, he would NOT be able to contact anyone, not his parents, friends or an attorney and he would be GONE, for however long they wanted. This is not made up, this is not BS, it is real and it happened to my son. They froze his checking account and when he called to see what was wrong he was told to come to the main office, that is where he had his little meeting. "

I am not here to convince you that there is a storm coming. No one can do that. :cowboy:

I pulled this from the 2A thread too. I have pondered Freds words in my heart for a longtime- 35 years.

Fred the Jew left Austria. His family died there.
His mother saw a storm comming, but his father did not.

I said Fred, How do you see the storm?
He said If you look- you will see it.
I said - where do you look?
he said- you will find where to look.

And he said Mollie, 80- 90 per cent or more of the people will never see the storm comming.
You can't convince them its comming either.

Fred left with his family - they sold the house - had to leave all ther money behind- came to America with nothing. It cost him everything to leave. After the storm passed (WW 2) Fred was alive. His Jewish family left behind in Europe was not. When they saw the storm- it was too late to get out.

I posted this about the Auto Makers bailout package passing and not one person commented! I guess it doesn't bother anyone but me that the trend in the past months has been to help out the rich and make the little guys pay for it.

Mollie, I tried to warn about the financial crisis storm on the other forum and I was hung out to dry. I guess I am a member of the nation of whiners after all. I was also told that I was just crying that the sky was falling a/k/a Chicken Little. I just wanted people to be prepared, first the banks being helped by the government, then the automakers, which big business that employs big lobbyists is next in line.

My daughter told me the story of 2 of her close friends whose parents have lost a major part of their retirement due to the financial crisis. My employer, the state of NC, sent out a letter from the state treasurer that they saw this coming and had planned for it and did not think there would be substantial losses. I hope if there is, the plan rebounds by time I retire. I was grilled over the coals for that post too.

Looks like you an me are going to be paddling that boat ourselves, the others will just be bailing their leaky ones out, wondering why no one told them to prepare for the flood.

I've been going round & round with a pard of mine regarding investments for the past 5 or 6 years. He claims to be moderately aggressive. I think he's out of his frickin' mind. He told me yesterday that he's basically lost 5-6 years of gains. Guess what, 'ol RocknK went to cash 5-6 years ago. 4% aint a killing, but at least I can sleep at night & my gains keep on gaining. :cowboy:

You're very smart, rocknK. :) We actually went way down in the percentage of stocks a little less than a year ago, so our losses have been tempered somewhat. But it's all relative in this incredible fall. We definitely added at least several years to our working lives during these past two weeks.

And you are absolutely right, rums. You did call this.

Once upon a time there was 3 little pigs.

One built his house out of straw/sticks/and bricks.

Then the big bad wolf came. :cowboy:

What goes down will eventually go up. I think that's why the financial advisors keep telling people to stick it out.

Buy now while it's all low if you can and it will crawl back up.

That's the risk you take with stocks. I never invested in them - to risky for me.

Nothing wrong with that, cheval. Even before this meltdown, I had heard many times that one should only put as much in the stock market as he/she is willing to lose.

My wife and I actually had much less in the stock market than financial experts generally recommend for our age and the amount of time between now and retirement. Unfortunately though, this downturn has been so dramatic that it really has changed our retirement plans in a significant way. No way will we be retiring when I originally thought before this happened. Hundreds of thousands of families in America have just gone through this same realization. But that's OK, I like to work and just plan to do work that I enjoy.

If Obama is elected, I sure hope that those who opposed him will at least give him a good year or so (without criticizing) to show us how he will lead. Every president deserves as much and I've had plenty of times when I had to say something like - "He may not have been my choice, but he's our President and deserves a chance to lead for at least awhile without every decision he makes being criticized."
