I know I am crazy to think I can make it through nursing college and still keep three horses. I have 'back-up" people who would take them for me if things really get hard, but I've just been living on faith that I will find a way to do this.
Hay prices here have just been outrageous, dry brown grass hay is going for $8.50 a bale and the E. Washington hay starts around $15/bale. My boyfriend brought up a ton of good grass hay from Oregon, but it has been going pretty fast in this cold weather. I have been really sending out the prayers to find a few more tons of decent quality hay around here that I can afford.
My farrier was out shoeing Taz this week, and he put me in touch with a friend of his who's horse recently died; the owner decided that he wasn't going to get another horse due to his own age. He had talked to my farrier about selling the hay at reduced cost to someone who really needed it, so my farrier put in a word on my behalf.
Well, prayers are answered. The gentleman is selling me the hay -good Eastern Washington alfalfa/orchard grass mix, 100# bales - for half the price he had payed for it. I am so grateful and so happy, because Taz really needs some good quality feed rations right now. The Haflingers are as fat as ever, but Taz just isn't keeping weight on with the grass hay I could find around here.
Looks like we are going to make it after all, because prayers do get answered.

That is absolutely wonderful! God always answers prayer - it may be a yes, no, or a wait - but He still answers.;)

Out of something bad-his horse passing away-came some good--you getting some much needed hay for Taz at a great price. Good luck with Nursing College and hope you can hang there!

I hope that one day I will be able to return these blessings to someone else, that when I am in a position to give I will not have forgotten all that others have given to me. It is so easy to get caught up in the struggels of our daily lives, all the bills and debts we have to balance every month; it is also easy to forget how others selflessly answered your call in time of need.... the greatest blessing of all is to be a part of a community of people who will support one another, and the choice we are given to create and maintain that community of kindness and altruism.:grouphug:
What I have noticed about my horses is that having them has brought many wonderful, honest people into my life. Each horseperson I have come to know is vastly diverse from the other, but there is a strong thread of likeness and kindness between us all. Taz, then Sweet P, and then Peach have all brought healing to my heart and my spirit, and their being a part of my life has helped me form healthy relationships with good people. What a blessing this journey has been with them along for the ride!

I completely agree with you. Having Cabo in my life, all though it is very difficult to make ends meet...has taught me how to have faith and I have also met some INCREDIBLE "horse" friends because of it. I would have never met all of you without him!!! I think the horses "find" us....we are meant to be with them!

That's great.
Sounds like your head and heart are in the right place.
I would like to encourage you to continue and finish nursing school, also.
You will no doubt be presented with a multitude of people that need help. You will also be rewarded by the feeling you get and be able to make a great living, too.
