How do I put a picture signature on here?
In the codes below the empty box for signature editing, it says uploading pics is not allowed, yet I'm seeing signature pics in posts.

You just put your image url here it should work. (:

So I have to get them out of Photobucket then instead of out of my computer? Or is there a way to copy the code off my puter pictures?

For signatures I believe you have to get them off of photobucket or any other image hosting site and like Cloedoll said, surround the URL with . A quick, easy way to upload your pictures is at tinypic.com. No account required.

You will have to upload them through a site like tinypic.com, Photobucket.com, Imageshack.us, etc. I personally like Photobucket because it's free, easy to use, and you can keep videos/pictures on there instead of taking up memory on your computer. If you don't want to sign up for one of those, you can PM me the picture you want as a signature, and I'll upload it through my Photobucket account and give you the link - no biggie. :D

You can upload the picture here too.... Hubby just fixed it.
If you upload it here, it's currently limited in size to 100 tall by 400 wide... and no animations. :)
How does that work for everyone?

Have photobucket, and had to do it that way before, lol!
That's what I needed clarification about- thank you!
Well, here goes nothing- hopefuly I don't have to resize it- otherwise it might be tomorrow, lol!

WB, my sig is currently 486 x 151. Is that all right or does that rule only imply to when signatures are uploaded through the forum?

Same way as HGS?
Dollars to donuts I'll have to resize mine- WB and Cloedoll, you've both seen mine from the other forum- this could get interesting, lol!

I don't have a problem with it at the moment. FSA. It seems a good size.
We'll try to be a little loose with the rules on it for awhile, till people start complaining, then we'll set a limit.
So you folks who like signatures can avoid hard limits by self-policing. ;)

And as an FYI for those that don't like to have to look at signatures, you don't have to. In your User CP, click Edit Options, and uncheck the Show Signatures option.

I still feel the old one I was using was too large. I'm going to see about doing something different- I like the signatures I'm seeing on here so far a lot better than the one I was using.

Try uploading it Gypsy... I think if it's too big, it will size it down automatically.
Let me know if I'm wrong... the other photo locations do that.

Photobucket does to a point- trouble is, with that signature, I lose the mesage on it when it downsizes too smal- it gets too blurry.
I have nice new pics to work with now, so we'll see what happens.
I still have to do it manually through Photobucket to get it on here, right?

Nope... Go to CP and then click Edit signature.... there's a place to upload it directly. Upload it as is.... see if it resizes it for you. If it's too small to read.... then you'll have to redesign it, but I'm curious.

It's a little big. Keep in mind this will appear on every post you make.
I'm not at home or I'd crop it for you.
Cloe!!! cloe!!! she could crop it down for you too. Anyone around who can help till we get home?

When she gets back, send it to her, or FatSpottedAppy or any of the others that have those fancy signatures, and they could help cut it down.
I'm on my brother's computer and I don't think he's got any photo editing software on this machine.

OK, new problem...
I'm trying to update my siggy. I've resized it down to 400x167, which is just about as small as I can take it and still be able to read it. I've checked a few of the siggys that are here that are about the same size or a little larger, and they're showing without a problem, but both my direct upload and my Photobucket upload are saying the file is too large. Do I have to scrap it?

Can you post it here so I can see it?
IrisGreen

It's might be the FILE size not the IMAGE size. There is a limit on the file size. My signature was too big in file size though it was not a large picture and fit the image size restrictions. I had to re-save it using Photo Shop and cut down the quality so the file was under the limit.
I think the current limit is 9.8 KB's. So, your pictures file size needs to be under that or it won't matter how tiny you make it look.

Like WB said. If you can post it then we can look at the details and see what file size it is. I can re-size it for you if you need help. I forgot I had Photo shop on his computer :) Gotta love PS :)

Iris is right. It's the file size that's in the way, not the image dimensions. I think he's got it set pretty low so it doesn't slow down loading pages on the threads.
If you can post it from photobucket or even upload it here as an attachment, whoever gets to it first can resave it to fit within the limits. :)

I suspect it's the file size-- I'll see if I can get it down in Photoshop, but 9K is awfully tiny. I doubt I can compress a photo image enough to bring it down that low-- I'll give it a shot.

I think you're probably right... We'll have hubby re-evaluate that setting.

Have y'all thought about increasing the file size for siggys? I got mine down to about 19K, but taking it to 9K makes it look reallllllly bad....
WashingtonBoy

I've upped the limit to 20k.

Good deal! Thanks!
Now, I'm still having a problem. The image size is 400 pixels x 167 when I upload it to the Photobucket site, and the size is approximately 18K. When I upload it here, it becomes 200+ pixels and shows at 7K. I can't figure out why it's downsizing when I bring it here.
I do graphic design as a sideline, so I'm used to manipulating images, but I'm having difficulty getting it to work. Any suggestions about what might be going on? I'm either too big or too small-- I feel like Alice falling down the rabbit hole...
WashingtonBoy

The reason it is sizing it down is because the height limit is 100px.
