update post #27Currently uploading pics..... Im putting Dreamers saddle on ebay, but i dont know what to ask for it. Its not completely broke in but getting there (new in spring 08). Its a 16" western tex tan saddle with some silver. It has full quarter bars and some silver. I used it for trails but it could be a show saddle or spare show saddle. It fits him perfectly, just doesnt fit me perfectly.

I'm not too sure either, but eBay has this new feature and at the beginning of your listing you can type in what you're selling and see what their selling for on eBay.

What did you pay for it new? Does it come with the back cinch?

I'd say knock 2-300 off of what you paid new. Textan is supposed to be a quality saddle.

It's a pretty saddle. Very similar to mine but mine doesn't have silver on it. I got it used a long time ago and paid $500. for it. It's a comfortable saddle.

After doing some research, im pretty sure a brand new saddle like this sells for 1700( but thats at an overpriced tex tan dealer tack store about 1 1/2 hours away), I was thinking of listing it for 750. Does that seem reasonable? give me your honest openion you wont offend me. i want to be fair to everyone here. thanks in advance.

You could set the price lower and have a reserve on it for the amount you actually want to sell it for or have a buy-it-now option as well. Take in consideration how much you originally paid for it. Most people perfer to have light oil saddles with tons of silver these days (or so in my neck of the woods) but I don't see why it couldn't make a great trail saddle. Good luck selling! :)

I'd clean it up first. I hate that type of tooling because its harder than heck to get the soap out of the cracks. In fact, mine has the same design and I was told it was a cheap saddle - you are lucky. Clean it up first, oil it good, and THEN sell it

of course i would clean and oil it first, im just trying to get a guesstimate right now.

What did you pay for it new? I would say start the bid at 750, and see where it goes from there. Selling is tough to do right now, just because of the economy. But because it is a Tex Tan, and classy enough to be a show saddle, you should be able to get at least that for it.

Yes, I think $750 is reasonable. It looks like a really nice saddle...if I were western I'd buy it! I love that tool (but like someone else mentioned, it sucks to clean it).

Is $750 what you want at the minimum for it, what you want your BIN price to be or what you want to start the bid at?

About the Ebay ad-

I'd recommend that you take photos of the saddle before and after you clean it. It's easier to see the tooling when it's dirty (so buyers who like tooling will be enticed). The cleaned up photos will show the finish is still good and the beauty of the saddle.

Post both photos in the ad. They'll answer a lot of questions for you.

Good luck with the sale ;)

You need to contact Taxtan with the serial number. They will tell you EXACTLY what model is it and what it cost new/retail. http://www.textan.com With as good of condition as it's in, you should be able to get at least 50% of retail cost for it. I would want at least $900 for it personally.

IMO, it looks like a reining show saddle, fully tooled. I would start it at $0.99 with a $750 reserve. Starting with a low opening bid encourages bidding. Definitely clean and condition it, then take pictures the NEXT DAY to make sure the leather is dry. If the leather is still damp, the color with look different. Also, taking photos outside on a sunny day will help show off the silver and capture the real color.

Let us know what you hear back from Textan. I'd be interested to know what year it was made, what the model is, and if it's a custom order or not.

I JUST got off the phone with textan. Luv2 to update you the saddle was actually manufactured in november of 2000. It was a 1400 series pleasure saddle. They dont have the actual sale price in the computer anylonger but she did say that those retailed for between 1500-1700 brand new, and was somehwere in there. i KNOW it was new until spring 2008 when i bought it because the leather was still perfect and fuzzy underneath( ei showed no signs of use, and wasnt flattend down.) May question now with hearing that is what does everyone think this saddle is worth now knowing the price range of what it originally sold for new and the year it was made???

It shouldn't matter when it was made, it has only been lightly used 1 year. I'd mention that in my ad. You may want to push up the fenders & replace the stirrup keepers though to complete the package. If you could oil it to get the color uniform that would help too.
I'd pay $750 for a saddle like that. The chestnut color is still popular with Arabian, Saddlebred, Morgan show people & trail riders like it because it holds up well to abuse & it can get wet & oiled without changing color.
It's a nice saddle, too bad it doesn't fit you.
