List your favorite color of horse and why

Okay, I just started wondering about this...since I'm always online looking at horse sale ads lol. What is everyone's favorite color of horse, and why? I'll go first...

I love bays! Either Dark bays or reddish bays. But, I really like a black mane and tail on the bays and black legs. I love Thoroughbreds with this color. They look so graceful to me. I love the tall black color on all 4 legs.

My second choice is paints. I am drawn to black and white paints. I just love the color combo.

I love bays, greys, and Paint/Arab crosses, especially buckskin paint or chestnut. They are just so gorgeous.

I keep going to the track website near me and I am wanting so badly to buy this guy. I know there is nothing overly special about him, but I want a small TB so bad, and I like his eye. Oh man, I keep looking at his sale ad!!

I LOVE duns. Especially light duns.

Why? I love the contrast of the black mane against the lighter colored body. I also think that the dun markings, such as the barring, mask, and dorsal stripe are very unique and add a really nice touch to the color.

Of course I love Paints and Pintos, most spotted horses, duh hu...lol
I love most all colors of them, just ended up with Black and White.
I do prefer the Tobi markings though.

Blacks

Appys markings hold a special place for me, another duh hu..lol

Sorrels, the ones that glitter in the sun. Shmexy man.

Palominos, the dark golden ones.

Bays, the more brown or red vs the dark brown, the better.

Buckskins, again the darker the better.

Duns just get to me, especially the tiger markings.

Greys are a hard one for me, I am very picky on the greys.

Did I miss any?

Ive owned, by color, blood bay, palomino, sorrel, black white tobi, and a bay/roan appy. We had a liver chestnut when I was a kid, dont really remember him, so Im not counting him.

I have a weakness for roans (esp. chestnut roans and blue roans), and palominos ( I like the pale isabellas best of all), and flaxen chestnuts (like the dark liver chestnuts).

Vicklynn has my very favorites! They are perfect. I also love Buckskins. I don't have any of my favorite colors because the horses I have I didn't really go looking for, they found me and I love them, they needed love and now they have it even though they are all brats.

A VERY close second (and honestly seems to be moving to first because they always catch my attention) are flaxen chestnuts. Love the golden beauties.

Along the same line is the silver dapples.

I love bays. I love the blood bay color(for arabs) and darker bays(tb's). Probably because I own a bay horse.

Gotta go with dark solid colors....blacks, chestnuts,sorrel then buckskins.....maybe some blazes or one sock is okay.....cuz I don't look good in black and white or spots or light colors..hehehehehe I once rode a horse with the same color hair as me, strawberry blond...don't know what its called in horse color????

I love grays!!! Steel Gray, white gray, fleabitten. Any sort of gray is good for me! Of course owning a gray is a lot of work cause really, they all turn yellow. (well the white grays do).

I'm also a fan of a nice red sorrel. Lol. Don't know why. And of course any appaloosa catches my eye. I feel connected to Appaloosas on an almost spiritual level. It's Sterling's fault.

Well, I would have to say grays with the black main, tail, legs, tips on ears (whatever that "colour" is called...gray bay, lol)
Love golden palominos.
Love buckskins too.
I really like a copper coloured bay too with minimal or no white.
I guess anything that's not as common as a chestnut (although I don't mind chestnuts either)

I just really love seeing a shiny coat. You know the ones that are naturally blinding in the sun.

Other than that the white greys get me every time. I don't think I'd own a grey though, I'm too OCD about having white be white.

I like bays, blacks, and dapple greys. But really I like almost any color of horse. I don't care too much for blue roan or most paints. (Other than if it is a paint gypsy vanner, IMHO the paint ones are much better than the solids in that breed, lol)

My favorite color of horse is black. Who didn't have a fantasy about owning a black arabian when they were younger? Especially after seeing the Black Stallion movie. :) I hate it when people call horses that are really dark brown black though. I mean sunbleached I understand, but when a horse is naturally dark brown and is called black. :mad: Besides black I love all colors of paints, greys, whites, chestnuts, palominos.

Mine will always be the solid chestnuts..Don't care for all the chrome of white sox and flaxen manes..
I love to look out at my mare who only has a partial white on both rear coronets and a small white star that is covered by her forelock when the sun is shining down on her..each muscle contour of her body reflects shades anywhere from brass ,copper to bronze colors..

I had many people tell me she is so plain in color who change their minds after I ask them to really look at her.they take back what they said, and in return say they never realized just how colorful a chestnut can be.

I like dark dapple grays, like my old horse. She was 10 and still very dark and dapply for some reason.
I also like blue roans alot

Boy, I like just about all colors. Any color with an appaloosa pattern although I am not real fond of palomino or perlino apps. Love a red leopard.

Like mlle beau, I'm not fond of paints, no matter what color they are. Not sure why.

And, like OwnedByOurHorses, lots of chrome, high white, and flaxen manes are not favorites either.

Love a blood bay, black especially on an arab, a bright red chestnut/sorrel with little or no white.

A lot of my preferences and of course, my dislikes are strongly influenced by horses I've known over the years and their abilities and personalities. That makes no sense I will be the first to admit because color doesn't influence ability or personality.

I love BAYS because that is what my horse is! But, I am sure if I owned a Gray or a Chesnut, that would be my favorite! :)

I have a soft spot for Varnish Roans and if they happen to be a Marbled Varnish all the better. I am partial to blue roans and almost any Appy pattern.

I think I must be way to picky when it comes to color LOL

In all honesty, I love them all of course but some shades more then others.

With appys there are some coat patterns I find just ugly, same goes with paints. Certain markings and the way they are I just do not find appealing.

I love greys, again certain shades over others. I love a grey that has dark points or a flea bitten grey.

Sorrels/chestnuts - I love a rich coppery sorrel that shines like a new penny. I love a deep liver chestnut too.

Palominos I love a dark golden body with very white manes and tails, the less smutty the better.

Bays I love a rich deep mahogany bay. Sort of a reddish hue to a very dark body.

Blacks I love a black so deep it almost has a blue sheen to it.

I LOVE soft chestnuts with flaxen manes and tails. I don't know why, they're rather popular, but I just love them! I love any color of chestnut, bright red to liver!

Well......I like all colors but my favorites are appys and paints because thier color markings make cool shapes and the markings give them different personalities(I can't say colors because I like them all).:) I also like bay arabians I dont exactly know why though.

Black. Ever since I got into horses, black was always my favorite color. And then I got a black horse, so that just sealed the deal. I've never been a fan of color. I like the classic hunter colors... black, bay, chestnut. I like darker greys, not a huge fan of light and fleabitten greys. I never really liked paints, appys, roans, duns, palominos, etc, until I found the forum. I've seen so many beautiful colored horses here that I've definitely found an appreciation for them. But in all honesty, I would never really want one. I just really love a solid colored horse with a bit of chrome.

I saw a BEAUTIFUL fleabitten grey QH mare a few years back....and it was all over for me. I've always liked grey horses, but she was like the PRETTIEST horse I've ever seen. I wish I had gotten the chance to talk to her owner.

I also love the buttermilk Palominos and Buckskins.

Oddly enough though, my "dream horse" is none of those. My dream horse is a blood bay with a big wide blaze, full black mane and tail, and 4 white socks. :)

First for me is buckskins. Course we had one for 21 years, and now I bought another one, so I am kinda biased. Second is probably bright red chestnuts, not with flaxen manes, but the true red heads. In the summer they just look like a big piece of shiny copper in the sun. And third is the true blacks, the ones that look almost blue in the sunshine, and fade very minimally.

I strongly dislike red chestnuts with flaxen manes and tails, but I own one and love her....lol. And my other is a black--maximum white tovero -_-
At least I don't let their color get in the way of me loving them :D

Why? Because Billy is, and he is BEAUTIFULL. More so than any horse I have ever layed eyes on, in my humble opinion ofcourse. I love the way he goes light in the winter and fluffy :) and in the summer he goes a rich golden colour, showing off his dapples with a very, very light mane. The whole thought of him makes me think of gold, as if he were made from it. He's certainly worth his weight in it.

My horse was a flea bitten gray and I loved her color.
She had the dark mane and her tail started off dark and turned blond the longer it got.
I also love dapple grays.

Hmm that is tricky but I would have to say black. I was growing up and that is one of the color horse's we hadn't had. I wanted to buy this event horse so badly named Blackjack. He was exactly what I was looking for and huge bonus he was black as well hehehehe. When looking at a horse color doesn't matter obviously I just want a nice horse. I like almost any color too.

I got so many comments on my grey tobiano pony it was ridculous, I had never had a horse people would come up and just drool over it's coloring.

I quite like steel greys too my gosh I just love all horses ;)

I'm a fan of the more unusual colors. Grulla is close to my heart, since the horse I learned to ride on was a grullo. I like dun, buckskin, roan, grulla, etc. Honestly, though...I've loved horses of all colors and will continue to :) I'm not too picky about color.
