my horse will get a drink of water from the trough and he holds some of it under his tougue and then will sometimes wait to spill it (often on me)
what are quirky things your horses do

Haha! My paint gelding likes to hold water in his mouth and suck on it. I've seen him do this with wet feed too, it's like he's sampling the water like a person would wine. Other times he'll hold it in his mouth walk away from the trough and open his mouth, just letting it all spill out. He's a nutter.

All ours do that...what I think is quirky is that since we had to raise our water tanks up on block to keep Heaven from getting in ( she's broke a few tanks) she now put her entire head under water then raises her head real high and lets the water run down into her mane.

Mine do that. Hopi and I play in the water. I fill up numerous buckets around her and she'll take mouthfulls and literally fling them at me and I'll splash her back. She also dunks her head in and splashes. It's too cute.

My mare tosses her nose in the water, where my gelding dosnt. Both hold it for a min.
They both love ice cubes.

Baloo will wait and walk away from the trough and spill the water out.
When I had jasper, he got on a pasture with a lot of clover, so he was drooling/slobbering a lot. Well, we went to the fair and some kids ran up and asked to pet him, since he loves attention, of course I said OK. So he must have been storing up this green gooey slobber because the second the kid touched his face, he opened his mouth and spilled all this green slobber all over them. LOL.
He did that all summer until the grass died. hehe.
Toby does the hold water in his mouth thing and will wait until I am by him petting him when he spits it out on me.
One of the horses - I don't know who yet - likes to tip the trough over when it gets 1/2 full.
And then there is Apache who is hilarious to watch when he is waging war on bot flies.

Dreamer does that. He walks to his bucket, takes a HUGE sip... walks over to you, will literally chase you to spit it on you. I think he only does that cause he knows i hate it and it will make me run with him....

I think I have the most clean drinking horse on earth, if that even made sense :) My previous mare would slurp it up, lift her head, then chew it as it all just fell out of her mouth. Biggs will drink and hold it in, sucking every last drop in and then lick his lips and seriously MAYBE one drop of water comes out! Apparently he's more about water conservation, I havn't even told him we are in a drought, what a good boy!

Koda will splash with his nose where his pasture mates wont. He also likes to suck the juice out of apples before eating them. He'll bit down just a little then suck on them then bit down again and suck till the apple falls apart then he eats it.
