Getting ready to go see my doctor, ever since I had that bad gastrointestinal virus two weeks ago I haven't bounced back very well, and now I have some upper respiratory crud. I know it's that time of the year for viruses, but this is nuts. I wonder if the stress from the new job added to it, I imagine so, and of course having a trainer at work who is snotty to me and reluctant to train me doesn't help (the trainers had their full time hours cut to part time, and guess who took on their hours they lost? Yup.....me. It has been very stressful there and the trainer actually got nasty with me when I told her the supervisor wanted me to learn this certain job, yet my trainer had me file papers instead, so I was not able to learn the job my boss wanted me to learn....**sigh**....). I think the stress is just getting to me, the new job is insane, and then all the other stuff that happened with my Dad's estate the last year, etc. I need to get on some serious immune boosters!

So, that said.....what does everyone take for supplements? What do you find that works good for you? I do take vitamins, but I was thinking about probiotics and other things.
Suggestions? I am tired of being sick and tired.

I take a regular one a day vitamin and then once a week take a subligual B12 (really boosts my energy when I take that) :)

I think it has a lot to do with where you're working too. You're exposed to everything, and it can take a body awhile to build up immunity to that, if it can even catch up.

I started tutoring at a local school after not being around a lot of people for awhile, and I was always sick.

Hope you feel better Remali.. I take a womens' vitamin, plus my sister got me started on taking Omega-3 fish oil. It is good for your heart, eyes, and bones.

Ditto WB's sentiment. I hope you get to feeling better soon. I think it's going to be a bad season as far as colds go. :(

I've been taking Airborne, and I didn't get sick when I was taking it religiously. A few weeks after I stopped I wound up with the cold that everyone has been affectionately calling "The Death", but while I was taking it I stayed pretty healthy. :)

First off sorry about the job I know how much you were looking forward to it. Have you heard about the other one? I keep hoping that will come through for you.

The way the illnesses are happening here is just what you are having. Someone gets something, they think it's gone and get zapped with either the same illness again only worse or get the other like if you had the stomach this time you'll get the upper resp. next or maybe you'll get the upper resp. again if you had it only you get it worse like my mother did, she thought she was fine and last I talked to her she felt way worse than before. Pneumonia is going around too, my friend the barn owner had that, she was down for a couple weeks and now she's down because of a bad leg.

Where you work doesn't help matters any either since there are sick people there and you haven't built up an immunity to it. I have to go to my Dr for prescriptions soon and I am dreading it because no matter when I go down there I end up with something and I know I'm getting it from there. When I first got married and my husband went back to school after summer vacation I ended up sick every single week, that place is a germ factory. He was immune to all the germs but he was bringing them home to me and our first year of marriage was a nightmare. It was like "The disease of the week". He still brings things home to me but not like that first year.

I also think stress adds to it because it zaps your immune system. Any time I loose an animal or someone I care about I get sick. When my last dog died I couldn't eat or sleep, I ended up with a cold. I got into moldy hay in our barn and almost died. The allerlgist I went to told me I was lucky to still be alive. Now I am allergic to almost everything. When my horse and cat died days apart my stomach went nuts so yes I do believe stress adds to things.

Some people believe Echinacea helps the immune system. Don't take it if you're allergic to Ragweed though. My natural healer doesn't believe in it. She does like Golden Seal but you can only take that for 2 weeks at a time I think. She also likes Vitamin B which I can't take, bothers my stomach. I take Probiotics because of the yeast. What I take is by Nutri-West and called Total Probiotics, they need to be kept in the fridge. If you do take Probiotics make sure you get ones with no yeast in them since you have intestinal issues as it is and the yeast can make them worse.

Hope you will feel better and I really hope that the other job comes through. It's very disappointing for you that this one is turning out the way it is.

As soon as I start to feel any sort of tickle or scratch or anything, I start taking echinacea and vitamin b & c, one each, twice a day. It's worked pretty darn good for me, although not quite as well since I've become diabetic, but that's a different story!

Just got back from my doctor appointment, she thinks I've got a sinus infection going on too (along with the virus everyone else has got around here) since it's been going on for so long, so she recommended antibiotics.

I agree WB, schools and hospitals have got to be the worst possible places to work at for picking up every virus and bug out there. :(

oursarge, I go to that other job interview tomorrow morning, I'm so excited! I hope they let me know SOON whether or not I get the job, but they are notorious for taking a very long time there (I applied for this job on November 5th and I had the first interview before Christmas!). And guess what?! While I was at the doctor's office this afternoon, I got another call regarding another job interview, this one is at another large medical clinic, so that made my day! I called back, but the lady that called me had already left for the day, so I left her a voice mail. Maybe one of these jobs has my name on it. Both pay better, have better hours, and the job itself (both of them) are nicer too (no switchboard). Also, both are much more secure too, both of these clinics are affiliated with very large successful clinics, both have been adding on and opening up new clinics. The funny thing is, I applied for these jobs way before I ever applied for the job I have now.....sometimes that is just the way it goes tho!

Gee, I am allergic to ragweed, I better not try an echinacea then. The other suggestions I can do tho! Thank you!

I swear by Airbourne (?) I know how it is to be stressed and then end up sick. It happens to me a lot. right now actually. Things aren't going the greatest with my son and I am having a very hard time.

I'm sorry to hear about troubles with your son lisakaye, I really do believe that stress plays a HUGE role.
I remember when I was going to the technical college, before my mother passed away, things weren't too bad, just everyday stresses.....the entire time I went to college I never was sick. And now....blammo....but then I've had so many losses (lost both parents, lost the family home when it was sold, etc.), stress can do a lot. I was reading how chronic stress releases cortisol, and how that effects your health and your body doesn't get a chance to return to normal, and lowers your immunity.

Stress is reaaly bad for me.. BP is way up, cholesterol is way up, weight.. you name it. I just can't seem to get feeling well. Then again I wouldn't know what feeling good feels like. Sounds like we are 2 of a kind.. The only time I relax is when I am with the horsee ALONE.. which isn't often. I was just talking to my mom in Southern Utah. She is ill with Rheumatoid Arthritis and my step- dad has just been diagnosed with spinal stenosis severe and needs immediatel surgery. I can't even tell my kids about it. I hope you start feeling better and you hear back about the other job. Until then keep smiling and keep the faith.

Oh boy I can relate to high BP.....I didn't have high BP until I got into medical records....ha ha. It was better today tho so maybe I'm on the mend.

My mother had spinal stenosis and she had so much back pain, that has to be awful for your step-dad. She had arthritis too, no fun, I hope the docs can help your mom feel better.

Well, tomorrow morning is the day. I've applied at this clinic about 12 or 13 times.....we'll see how it goes, I hope they don't make me wait another two months tho!

Too bad we couldn't have our own businesses.....I was thinking a bed and breakfast would be nice. No job is stress-free, but I think a B & B out in the country would be so nice.

Man, can I relate about feeling stress-free when you are with the horses......I am not really in a great financial situation right now and these jobs have, so far, been only part time.....but having a horse makes me feel better, my BP goes down, I get exercise, and I relax and I feel like my old self again....I just feel so good with my horse.....she's my therapist, LOL.

Don't forget vitamin E helps your immune system, as well. A stress B complex is also good- it contains a lot higher levels of the B vitamins than a regular supplement.

I don't use it as an immune booster but it could be. There is a tart cherry drink that has antioxidants and melatonin in it. The melatonin is a natural chemical in your brain and it helps you sleep. The Antioxidants help with arthritis pain, joint pain, any type pf pain, which is what I use it for. Becasue it has a ton of antioxidants it should help your immune system also. Its a bit pricey, but surely cheaper than a doctor's visit, and you don't have to drink it every day. 2 - 3 times a week should be plenty.

That fruit drink looks good Miracle Whip. Melatonin would be helpful, I don't sleep very well. I should see if I can find that, or something like it, around here.

Well, as it turns out I had a raging sinus infection (again, I'm prone to them due to a "defect" in my nose, according to my doctor).....this is day two on the medications, and I feel so much better. So, now, back to the vitamins and supplements, and I think I'm back on track now! Getting hit with that norovirus (or supposedly it was ), sure didn't help, but I'm doing lots better now and my energy's back. I'm thinking of trying yoga again, as a stress reducer, I tried it a couple years ago and I loved it and felt so much better.

That does look good, I could use something like that too. Hope I can find it around here! Thank you!

Glad to hear you're getting better :) school and new work is definitely the worst for bugs, so mix the two together and that must immune system hell!!
I'm sorry I can't recommend anything :/ guess I just don't stress enough! Mum often says I'm so laid back I'm horizontal. I guess that'll all change once I get my own job!
The only thing I need to take is iron supplements, and only once a month ;) otherwise a good diet, and I think talking over any stresses and problems I have certainly helps alot.

Home you get 100% soon, and the job(s) ease off a bit too *fingers crossed!*

I take a whole foods multiple, fish oil, calcium and vitamin D, and a probiotic (I tend to get intestinal stuff a lot). I hope you feel better. Sometimes when you've been down, it takes a while to build yourself up again. Prayers and hugs.

Thanks Buckpoco. That reminds me, I need to call and re-order the vitamins I used to get, they have whole foods in them and really do make a difference in how I feel. I also want to try a probiotic.

Hi Remali. I am sorry to hear about you not feeling well. I know everytime I would start a new job..(doctor office) I would get sick. Also..Sinus infections can affect you all over, especially your energy levels.

I didn't read any update about the other job offers...Did they pan out?

My part time job quickly turned into a full time position. I really do like the job itself, so it is worth the drive every day. The benefits are good too. I actually start the full time on Monday.

The only thing is ...I get paid once a month...I haven't even been paid yet since I started work January 5th. I won't get paid until February 15th. That pay will be for the month of January. That is hard to get use to..But once it starts..it should be okay. I will probably think I am rich when I get a check for the whole month. lol

I am not much on taking meds...not even vitamins...

However, you should try using a Saline Nose Spray on a daily baises...It keeps your nose cleaned out and helps Sinus Infections stay away!!!! I like to use it every morning in the Shower. You don't just use it when you are sick..you use it everyday.

Hey there Diane, me too, I get sick every time I start a job...why is that?! Maybe just all the stress, and of course working in medical like I do there are tons of sick people around (didn't help I was next to the ER!).

Still no word yet about the jobs I interviewed for....I had one today, at another clinic, the hours would be nice and could go full time. I had that second interview yesterday and that went very well, the manager seemed to like me and told the dept. manager about me, so I am now waiting to hear back from them, I just hope that they don't take two more months to call me back! :(

I used to use those saline sprays long time ago, for my nose, but unfortunately they didn't do anything for me at that time....but I think I'm going to try them again.

Glad to hear your new job is going well and it worked into full time, that's great! I am really hoping I hear something by next week, this waiting is driving me nuts. lol. getting paid once a month would be hard to get used to at first, I've always gotten paid bi-weekly. It's tough waiting for that first check when you start a new job.
