I just thought I would share this link with you guys. These are pictures from the North American Police Equestrian Championships in Kingston, Ontario last Sept. My dad, my sister and I all competed. My sister placed third in the pairs obstacle, dad placed 4th in western and 6th in individual obstacle, and I placed 8th in obstacle. There are a ton of pictures to look through if you want. The pictures of me and Oreo start at number 165, my sister and Moose at 530, and dad and Fred are at 796. We are going again this year, but it will be in Harrisburg, PA on Sept 26 to Sept 29. If anybody is going to be there let me know. I also included the NAPEC website link if anyone wants some more info.

Boy I bet that was fun!!!!!!!!!! What exactly did you have to do in the obstacle course?

If this is long, I'm sorry. There were 10 obstacles that had to be completed. The first one, you entered the ring, stepped your horse into the box, and were handed a microphone. You had to introduce yourself, state your partners name, where you were from, and ask permission to compete. Then the bugler trumpted a couple times. Then you go to the next box, they hand you a rain coat, and you had to put that on while the kids at the rail were spraying you with water. Next box an umbrella was opened right in front of your horses nose. Then 2 guys were throwing blocks of wood into a steel box next to you. From there you had to cross the tires, the steel grate, and the box filled with empty soda bottles. Next you walked your horse to the 2x2 steel plate, placed his front feet on it, did an quarter turn on the forehand, and backed into the box approx 10 feet behind you. You go form there to the dummy that you have to handcuff while mounted. Then you have your horse push the 6 foot diameter ball between the cars to the end of the chute set up. Next you dismount, pick up the 60 lb sandbag dummy off the bench, place it on your horse, remount, follow the course set up with cones, and deposit him in "jail". Last obstacle you are handed a collapsible baton, open it, and swing over your horses head and hit the garbage can hung in the air. It was a blast, and I wasn't expecting to place at all. So that was a nice bonus.

Wow! I love the pop bottles on the ground thing! I wish I would have thought of that for round pen exercises. That is a good one for horses to learn!

That looks like so much fun! Now I've got more ideas for obstacles... I think it would be fun to set up a course at the new farm don't you?

Can you post some of the pictures here? It seems really cool, looking through them but there's so many it's really cumbersome to find yours. Do we have to go one by one?

Lakota's Pet - a couple questions , this is the first I had heard of such test /games

Are all the participants officiers ?

Are all the horses mounted by officiers actually police horses ?

---------
I tip my hat to these riders and officiers that do their trade by horse back !!

As Appylover stated, we are on our second competition this year and could use all the help and ideas thrown at us. In fact, us Vegas gang are getting together tomorrow for a little practice session.

Congrats to ALL you guys for your great accomplishments in this competition and BEST OF LUCK for this years to come.

As WB asked, is there any way to post just a few of "your" pics of this competition on the forum?
I don't know what number I made it to and my computer FROZE up. Had to shut it down and power it back up before it melted down. Heeheehee.

The competetion is open to all full time mounted police officers and members of volunteer unit sanctioned by a police deptartment. Myself, I am a member of a volunteer unit. And to make it fair the full timers compete against each other, and the rest compete against each other. So some of the horses are department owned full time police horses, and the rest of us use our horses that we own and have trained for that kind of stuff ourselves.

I will see if dad can post a few of the pics on here for us. My computer here at work won't let me for some reason. Plus I think dad has a bunch of pics we took on his computer too.

Gaited and Appylover- I wish it weren't so darn far to Vegas. I would come ride with you guys. Good luck with your competition, and make sure there are lots of pictures. And by the way, the pairs obstacle was new to us this year, and it was a BLAST. Maybe we should share torture ideas. I have a new one to train, and I am always looking for new stuff to throw at him.

Ok I think this will be the last one...maybe. The last one I had to show you guys. She took a heck of a ride, stayed on, and finished the course. The worst part was, it was her first competition. Everybody was proud of her.

Hey Lakota,

Nice pictures. Thank you for sharing.

I just put a thread up with some torture ideas and will have more today. Us girls are meeting today for a training session and trail ride.
We are all equipped with camera's and video's so we will have some torture ideas up soon.

Great. We are working on some new obstacles too. I just can't get much saddle time with as much snow as we have had. I'll let you know what we come up with.
