View Full Version : I Have a Surprise ((Pics--Video))

I have a mini surprise for you guys! I have been working with Keidas to get him to respond to being ridden in a halter. This is the horse that used to have to have a Tom Thumb in and you would cross your fingers he would stop/listen to you. He had an extremely hard mouth. I finally got him responding to a Kimberwick on the lower slot, then a Kimberwick on the higher slot, then a d-ring snaffle w/ french link mouthpiece and now he listens in a halter. He's come a very long way and I'm proud to say that I was the one who got that stubborn mouth of his to soften up and respect his rider. ;) I won't do most of my riding in a halter, but it's nice to know he listens to it. His stopping is a bit rusty, but in time I bet he will stop on a dime - the point is I don't have a doubt in my mind that he will stop with the halter on.

In the video he is always on the left lead when cantering. I do work him on both leads for an equal amount of time, but the camera died before I could film him on the right lead. :(

I did crawl under Keidas in this video. I obviously trust this horse with my life. I don't see how going under a horse is any different than being on top of one or near one. Either way you are risking your life. One of those things may have a bigger chance of losing your life than the other, but either way, it is risking your life. Last thing, I am aware there is not a helmet on my head and no shoes on my feet. I prefer to not be lectured for any of that, but you do what you feel you need to do. I hope nobody takes any offensive to me mentioning those things, I don't mean it in a rude/offensive way, I just wanted to say that. As I am sure many of you want to express your concerns for my safety. Lol. =P

Now that I said all of that, here is the video! :D

Please watch in high quality.
Riding Keidas Bitless (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwQ8mmIgJ7g)

I personally think he moves more freely bitless and is happier. What do you guys think? See any differences? I wanna hear your opinion as far as that goes. :D

Here are some pictures that were featured in the video.

EnglishGuy -- Thanks! I think I might have to consider buying him an actual bitless bridle. :o

CG43 -- Thanks! Currently I just do carrot stretches and that is how he stretches between his legs. Now that I know he is confident doing that, I think I am going to begin to teach him how to actually bow. I'll keep you updated! :)

lovesfortune -- The song is Into the Ocean by Blue October, I love that band. I bet you will, it's so much fun! :D

TBgirl -- Heh, thanks! I sure think he is amazing, if you understand him and his trusts is in you...you can get him to do just about anything. He is really sensitive, though, lol.

Emily -- Thank ya, thank ya!!

if you are serious about riding bitless with keidas you may want to take more steps with him to further responsiveness and sensitivity gradually
maybe start with a hackamore then move onto something even more free like bosal and then sidepull
if you are going to continue to ride in a halter i think it would be best to use a rope halter b/c the knots can give you more pressure leverage and control

and also i forgot to mention it is awesome you have been able to use a gentler bit, it really shows your relationship and progress with your horse and probably makes him tons happier

I never heard of Blue October before, lol, I like em. Thankee, random, sorry, =)

Gret<3sBub -- I did state in my original post that I do not plan on riding bitless primarily, just here and there. I also said that I knew his stopping was a bit rusty, but with more training that would improve. I wouldn't want to use a hackmore because I do not think I would be able to do more finesse things and I would not need the leverage. I also do not think I could do more finesse things with a bosal. He is responding well to the halter in the mean time and with more training, things can only get better. And thank you vury much for the compliment, I think he is tons happier than he was in the Tom Thumb. (:

They were grey, ha ha. Yep, my shorts get EXTREMELY dirty - dirt, sweat, the works. xD I have certain shorts that are just for horseback riding, lol. It's funny, on Cloe I have black shorts and my butt is covered in white hair by the time I'm done riding her, lol.

That's awesome! Are you going to start riding again?

Riding? I'm not sure... Maybe one day. When I rode this summer, the spark and fire just wasn't there like it was before.. I think when I grow up and have my own place (haha), I will be able to have Minis and a few big guys. I want a horse like Cloe where I can hop on with a halter and just ride. I used to have two... but things happened and I couldn't handle riding anymore. I think it was fate though... If I didn't sell one, I would have never met Rockypoo... He's my world.

Cloe took so long to get to that point, ha ha, but I agree it's vury nice. Also, there isn't anything wrong with not riding, what you do with the mini's seems like a lot of fun! And si, Rocky is precious!!
