I've been going to post this for a week, but I had to talk to Will and Michelle first to let them know what was up. This isn't going to be a cheerful update. ;)
When Papa started chemo, his PSA (or cancer count) was 45, and it actually dropped to the upper 30s in the first couple of treatments. The cancer had spread to his back, causing him noticeable back pain (he actually complained about it - this from the man who wanted my grandmother to put him in the car and drive him to the doctor - not hospital - when the tractor ran him over and broke his pelvis/bladder/both hips/leg/etc). The back pain went away with the first treatment, so we were all really optimistic.
Unfortunately somewhere along the way the chemo has stopped working. His PSA as of last week was 62 and the doc has decided that he's going to take one more chemo treatment while they decide what to do next. I couldn't go with Nana and Papa on Friday when they found this out because I was really sick, so I don't know any more details (I'm the question queen... his doctor is a little afraid of me ). So I'm stuck waiting for the next appointment... and if there's one thing that everyone in my family is horrible at - it's waiting (right behind waiting is dealing with things we have no control over).
------
I posted a prayer request thread for my cousin, Tonya, a little while ago. They finally got around to talking with her about the liver cancer (which they think did not originate in the liver, and is wreaking havoc elsewhere in her body, so they don't have much hope); unfortunately she has the mentality of a child, so she doesn't understand and keeps asking why the doctors "keep cutting on" her.
So, I would really appreciate prayers for peace for Tonya. She needs them really badly right now.
I'd also obviously appreciate prayers for my Papa.
I'm kind of playing the grown up/peace keeper/information gatherer/sharer in all of this because no one else has the time... which really stinks when I think of the average 21 year old's hugest issues in life... so if you think of it, prayers for my mental health will also be sincerely appreciated - but completely unnecessary compared to those for Papa and Tonya. ;)
