Well today was an interesting one. I'v been sick since thursday night and finally felt good enough to take one of the boys out for a ride. I went and got Driften. No sooner was the halter on I felt as though I had no control. Usually Driften is snotty but not this bad. So I saddle him up and go to climb up and he won't stand still.

So I get him stopped and I get settled in my saddle and start to leave and he wants to go back to the pen. I kiss, kick then spank and his back end comes up. I yell "ack!" and get after him then I ask for him to walk on and get the same result. So I said fine and rode him over the back gate, dismounted and led him to the round pen. And we worked and worked and then worked alil more.

Finally I was getting some results. I mount up agian and he is soo heavy in his head. So we flex and flex for bout 10 minutes till he's softer. We loped and few circles in the round pen. Then head out to hit the trail. He was pretty good after that. Even got some galloping in. Needless to say I had quite a day today. I know that this spring me and Driften are going to be going back to the basics for respect ect.

Does anybody elses horses get this way in the winter time? Sorry for my long vent.

Nope! Its been 6 weeks since I rode Ginger, tacked her up tonight and went out on the road. She stood like a rock for me to get on.

Yes, all of my horses seem to get super spunky when winter is starting to transition to spring..

At least you ended on a good note. Silly little ponies..

Ahahaha, go read my recent blog posts and you shall see what i've been going through with Bronson for the past 3 weeks.:D In a nutshell, he's been an IDIOT, but he's getting a lot better. His favorite trick was to pretend to "spook" at something, then spin around and take off bucking. He hasn't done that in awhile, and i hope to keep it that way.;)

Phew *big sigh* I'm glad I'm not the only one with a bad horse. Driften pulled the whole fake "Spook" back n day. Now its the ol I need to scratch my leg then nibble grass trick that he loves to pull. He can be quite the idiot him self too.

Nope, it's not just you.:D Bronson's pretty much quit all spooking at the walk, but on our last trail ride we were trotting up a hill and he used some rustling in the bushes as an excuse to try to bolt up the hill. No bucking thank goodness, but he got his head pulled around fast and some spanking because he knew better.;)

But Brig will do the same "i need to itch my leg - oh look! grass!" trick too - the little bugger.:D
