First of all, I'm super disappointed the SLT store in Columbus closed its doors......but now I'm disappointed because browsing their website, it looks like their prices have increased. :( Boo hiss..........

Anyone else notice? Or I guess even shop with them, LOL...

They aren't inside of any PetSmarts anymore around here. I'm not surprised they increased their prices but I don't buy much from them. I mostly buy stuff from Dover or the local places around here.

They went out of business and were bought out by Horse.com or Country Supply. .. because they were their main competitor. (or so I was led to believe.)

Eh, I'm trying to find a nice headstall but I don't want to pay a ridiculous amount of money for one....it seems like not only are the prices more, but the selection seems pretty limited.

I used to love going into the SLT store when it was here. I know they closed a while ago (it was also inside a Petsmart....I think the two companies severed ties), but I'm still super disappointed! There's an English tack store about 2min away from my apartment, but they're pricey. I always remember SLT being fairly affordable.

That's interesting. I know SLT and Petsmart had some issues or something...but I didn't know about that.

Try ebay. country supply doesn't really have quality equipment IMO.

Horse.com is Country Supply, and yes, they did buy SLT.

Seems everyone raised their prices. The treats I used to pay $8.95 for went to over $13. in Valley Vet. I ended up getting them from State Line. It took longer to get them but shipping was free and they were cheaper. I see that Valley Vet has since dropped the prices $2. a container but it's still expensive. We go through a container every week and 1/2. I'm going broke buying horse treats but they love the things so much I hate to not give them to them. They each get 2 a day so it's not like they are getting alot of treats there just aren't alot in the container. I need a recipe for Mrs Pastures horse cookies!!!!

I used to buy from SLT all the time until they were bought by horse.com. Now I just don't care for them. They always screw orders up.

We ordered a Horse Sized HDR Bridle.
They sent us a Draft Sized HDR Halter.

Wow.

SLT has changed ownership a couple of times and has gone downhill... First PetSmart bought them out. Now horse.com (the company that bought out Country Supply) owns them. The product quality and selection has gone downhill, as has the customer service. I decided to give them another chance recently, as thet had a really low pice on GrandVite and I needed some dewormer. Yup, failed, lol. Lousy customer service again... I'm back to buying from Valley Vet, Dover, and eBay ;).

They do have some nicer English tack that they did before, more Courbettes and Bates and such. They're pretty expensive though. I'll stick with Dover, they're local.

I wish Dover was local for me!

We have Rods Western Palace locally here.... But I've ordered most of my stuff from either Country Supply, Horse.com, or SmartPak. I'm actually a big fan of SmartPak and think I'll jump on over to their site after I post this, LOL.

I quit buying from SLT when they left Petsmart. Their website doesn't work well for me and the prices are ridiculous.

Ebay is my main tack supply store now- but you have to be careful there too. I've had 2 bad experiences for horse tack out of about 20 purchases.

My husband's family lives by Rods. They live in Grove City. It's expensive there.

Oh really? My boyfriend's grandparents are in Grove City. We're on the north side in the Polaris area. :) Small world!

Rods is very expensive, but if you can catch the sales, you can get some good deals.

My husband's family finds things they like at Rods and emails them to us. We can almost always find things cheaper here and send them up there :)

Oh yeah - my favorite tool is Google's "compare prices" little thing. :) If I find something I like, I just type it into Google and see where and if I can get it cheaper. Usually, I can find things $5 cheaper or so.

I remember SLT when they had the store in NH now that was a place to go!
Another good one is Adams http://www.adamshorsesupply.com/
I'm close enough to get to both Smartpak and Dover which is either really good or really bad ;)

Wish we had something local here because shipping prices can be killer. Plus its so much nicer to be able to put your hands on the tack and see the actual quality before ordering. Unfortunately all you will find around here are cheap synthetic and shop people to tell you the only thing to worry about is having the saddle to fit you because there is never a problem of the saddle not fitting the horse.

Well, speaking of Rod's....I just bought a halter and a lead rope and for the two it was $44!!  But I very well could have gotten a cheaper one there or elsewhere....but the one I wanted was this one:

But boyish.....the one I got is black and white. :) It's so cute and fits "Rebel" perfectly, so I had to, I just had to..... :p

With as much trouble as Country Supply has getting the correct merchandise to you it's no surprise they are screwing up SLT. I noticed the higher prices with my last catalog. It's all equal to just going to the local mom and pop tack store, so I support the local now instead of catalog.

I do believe Jeffer's has some really good prices on some things still.

I dont usually shop with them because we have two pretty good tack stores about 15 minutes and 25 minutes away... Gift Horse Saddlery (I get a lot of stuff there, including my saddle) and Olsen Mills Tack Shop (nice stuff but a little more expensive) .. you can look them up online

I thought Dover Saddlery bought SLT...

Only cuz I work at a tack shop and thats what the managers and owner heard.. Plus what we sell is very compatable to Dover In price and tack...

And when ever a customer calls bout a Big Horn saddle I have to break there heart when telling them there no longer in Business...So sad I was getting ready to buy one of there saddles... Just cuz I like synthetics...

I heard American Saddlery bought Big Horn. They're still going to make the saddles, but they're changing the way they produce them.

I've only been shopping at SLT for my EquineSaver supplement since it's $69 or something with free shipping. I could order it at Valley Vet for $54, but with shipping, the prices are all the same.

I wish I could get EquineSaver locally since they make it right here in the area. But buying direct from them costs $89. And then they charge for shipping (why oh why doesn't our local feed store carry it?)

Cheval, I have often wondered why you have had so much trouble ordering merchandise from Country Supply........maybe it's your location, IDK? (they have different warehouses that service different parts of the country) I have placed about 10 orders over the last year and-a-half (everything from de-worming paste to saddles) & they have sent everything I ordered when they said it would be here. My last purchase was the engilsh starter set & saddle pad for my daughter's upcoming birthday. I ordered them on the 2nd & they arrived on the 7th.......

No, they were not bought out by Dover. I'm sure Dover was interested though .

You've been lucky I guess, lol. I too have had orders come in fine, but I've had an almost equal number of orders that they screwed up on, before and after horse.com bought them out. I'm in Arkansas, not far from their Missouri warehouse. You'd think they could get it right, lol.
