Ok so I'm at the point that I can look at most horses and know "he'll take a 50" and I'm usually right. What are the actual points you measure between to get the measurement? Someone asked me the other day and I don't know exactly where they are.

If you put a saddle on and measure from billet to billet it will tell you what size girth you will need

About half-way up the billets.

And the billets are often different lengths for different saddles - what a pain :)

I did what Alissa & Arrow said, but the girth I was using had elastic on both side and it ended up being too big. I usally go with the last hole on each billet or second to last and that has been pretty accurate...however, I would trade all that for the gift of being able to eye what size girth a horse/pony needs, haha!

I've been around lesson horses too long! The kid gets the tack and I'm all like "No, he needs a 48." So when someone asks me who's out of state and I can't see the horse I'm all jacked as to how to tell her to fit her mare!

Haha, I almost always underestimate girth size. It's because for years, I had a pony that took a 42". Then the same girth happened to fit my Appendix QH hunter, and then it also happened to fit my Clyde/tb cross jumper! It was like the wonder girth. The biggest girth I've ever had to use on any of my horses was a 48".... But lately it seems like everyone else has extremely fat horses or something because I keep grabbing 48's and end up having to go back for 54's!
