So I have a formal school dance to go to on Feb. 15. I am pretty prepared...I got my dress yesterday and have to order the buckaner(sp) but there is still one thing I'm clueless on...my hair .
I really don't know what to do, I tried to curl it today with my mom's curling iron but it being naturally straight as a board did turn out the greatest. I also don't know any tricks to keep it curled so that didn't help:doh:. I really want to keep it down but don't want to do the same old same old straight hair routine I do everyday.
So does anyone have any ideas on what I should do with my hair or tricks on how to curl it?
Here is a picture of my hair below. And before anyone asks I was attempting to do the vogue like in the Madonna song.;)

Have you tried curling it when its wet.(With rollers.) Or maybe get some curling enhancer gels and sprays? Oh yea hair spray can be your best friend when curling. :) I think your hair would look cute with a looser wave look.
Something like this perhaps.

I have also found that curling with a straightener is allot easier that with a curling iron. Go figure. :p
Hope this helps a little.

I agree with GazettE, I'd try curling it with a flat iron and that does tend to make 'looser' curls. And again, what GazettE said, hair spray works really well for holding curls. My sister has really fine hair and I have to spray every curl after I curl it, but it does hold! Also after you curl it, sometimes I like to pull apart the curls and that gives it almost a softer look? I don't know how to explain it, but it always looks cool! I also always tease the roots when I'm done because my hair is heavy/thick and when I curl it I want my hair to be big (not 80's hair big, lol) so teasing the roots helps with that...I'll stop rambling now, but I really agree with GazettE - loose wavy/curly would be really pretty.

Gazette...stop posting pictures of me without permission :) Grunge, you are adorable!!
I agree, that hairstyle would look awesome on you! I have the same typ of hair as you as far as lenght and thickness. We have fine hair but ALOT of it and man is it tough to keep a curl. I have found a way that works with me, maybe it would help with you!
Here's what I do right out of the shower:
~Run a handful amount of mouse evenly through wet hair with your head upsidedown. Yeah, who uses mousse anymore but I can't stand the hard feeling hairspray gives. Mouse will help your hair hold a curl without making you feel like you can't run your fingers through it. I really like the mousse by ThermaSilk.
~Completely blowdry it and use a big round brush while you blow it dry to keep your hair untangled. Use the brush to pick it up at the root and blow as you do that to give it some volume.
~Once it's completely dry, part your hair the way you want it. I like to do a sidepart so my bangs will go to one side
~Section out your hair. I have layers so I usually clip it up at the crown, then again towards the middle of my head and leave very bottom stuff down to curl first...or you can do it switched.
~Take a large or medium barreled curling iron and grab the hair in the very middle and start wrapping up, every time you wrap once open the barrel and let it go a little so it slides down and grabs more hair, then wrap again, letting go and wrap again until you have all the hair in the curling iron. Then wrap up to as close to your scalp as possible without burning yourself. Make sure that the curling iron is going straight up and down or as close to vertical as possible, even as you let go of the hair. That may sound way confusing but I don't know a better explanation! I've found that you can't start the curl from the bottom with such long hair and get the kind of tendrils you want.
~Once your all curled you can either leave the curls be or you can play with them and toussel them to give a more relaxed look.
You should get this look when your'e done

Thanks so much everyone for your great help...maybe I'm not a lost cause after all ;)
GazettE- Thanks so much for the advice. My attempt was kinda an epic fail  I also ending up burning my finger in the process since I was too careless and didn't see where I was putting my hand. Ah yes hairspray...that or something of the sort could have probably helped lol. I did found some hair spray "stuff" we had lying around but its much to heavy for my thin hair.
Cloedoll- Teasing ok *self memory check*, that should help my hair since its pretty fine. Gah I mean I do love that my hair is naturally straight and I don't even have to straighten it but for curling it can be a nightmare.:(
Ariesgrl131- Haha yeah the funny thing is my hair is blonde in the summer months. The sun really bleaches it out but as winter comes near it gets really dark. I have always gone back and forth with the idea of dying it in the winter to blonde but me being the scaredy cat always chicken out thinking it might ruin my hair or something.
This is the only picture on this old computer I can find of me as somewhat of a blonde. This is a picture of me and my cousin messing around...I am the one standing up..I believe it was taken in October so my hair was already starting its yearly brunetting lol. :D

Mandzanita-Thanks you so much for that advice. That should help A LOT, I plan on trying it all out a once or twice before the dance to make sure I can do it and it wouldn't end up a diaster at the dance.I understand what you mean by vertical thing. It was all very helpful :)

I think curls would be really cute, or if you just pulled your bangs back and poofed them and then left your hair straight thats'd be nice too.
