Last year, Rocky really threw himself out of alignment right before Nationals. We got him adjusted and went to Nationals... On the trailer ride there, however, he threw out his back.. AGAIN! My trainer paid all the money for nothing. So hes been out of whack since last September, but it hasn't effected him in performances and he doesn't appear to be in pain. Now, all of a sudden, my trainer says I can't do anything with him till he gets adjusted, but she can't/won't pay for it since they don't have the money.

So I had to ruin my weekend plans since I can't do anything with Rocky like I was planning. I called the doc and set up an appointment to have Rocky adjusted this Saturday at 8:30am. I live about an hour north of the farm Rocky is at, and the place where we have to take Rocky to get adjusted at is more than an hour north of where I live. So, we have to drive down, pick up Rocky, and then drive all the way up to the doc, then take him home. I have homecoming that day and am getting my hair done later in the afternoon! What a day that will be!!!!

Oh, did I mention that I'm paying for everything? Not my trainer(WHO OWNS HIM), not my parents, ME. For gas, the doc bill, everything. :eek:Just thought I'd add that and the fact that I'm only 15 years old...

That's a little odd. Are you even leasing him or anything? Seems like the owner/trainer is getting a free adjustment out of you.

I show Rockypoo. It used to be that I would "work" at the farm with the rescues and other horses and I could show the horses I wanted to and she would pay for the classes... That isn't the case now. I show mainly Rocky and have to pay for all my classes and whatever.

I admit that I don't get out there like I should/used to/need too. I'm a teen for heavens sake! And I have full time working, divorced parents. I get out there as much as I can and usually stay allllll day and clean, work the horses, etc.

Huh, that stinks. I know that being too young to drive is a pain; I was psyched when I finally got my full liscence this year.

Well, at least you can pay for it? I would have thrown a fit but if you're really only showing for "free" then there isn't much you can argue about it.

You're a good mom to Rockypoo. I don't care if you don't him, you are awesome enough to pay all those bills because you love him! <3 Very good on your part, I know he is your world. I hope he gets himself in line, lol, no more throwing out the back! Good luck getting all of that accomplished...that WILL be a day.

Sorry, must've read it wrong. I thought you were saying you exchanged work for showing, so technically you were paying, but not in money. Now that you can't come out as much to work, the owner wants some other kind of compensation. While I think it stinks she's making you go way out of your way to do this, it kind-of makes sense. Might make more sense if she just had the appointment made and let you give her the money for it.

I don't know if you're showing now or not, but if you still aren't paying for classes I'd call it a fair deal; especially if they're at big shows.

In post #3, it says I USED to "work" for being able to show. I would have done the volunteer work no matter what, but that is what I did.

iheart; You are very sweet. I'm hoping that with his back adjustment, it will help him to set his head for driving. He looks like a llama when we drive normally!!!!

I pay for all my show classes. And since she isn't showing anymore (at all), I will have to pay for the entry fees, ground fees, etc etc.

(: I really hope so, too. The chiropractor did wonders for Cloe, she's a totally different horse.

Really? You watched her get adjusted, right? This will be my first time ever seeing someone adjust a horse, so I'm very interested. Was she in any pain when the Doc was doing everything? I couldn't stand to see Rockypooo in pain :(

Yep, it took three hours (which I have been told that's longer than normal). He massaged her and she reared once and tried to kick out once - needless to say, there were some kinks that needed...un-kinking. Some of the time she would be irritated, but trust me, it needs to happen...there is such a huge improvement afterward it is well worth it and I know Cloe agrees. She is just so much more happier now and her performance has improved tremendously. Rocky will be okay and chiros are used to working with horses obviously...he/she will take good care of Rocky and Rocky will thank you afterwards. :)

I sure hope so! I am really interested in this.. I want to know where he is actually hurting and what causes it.. Maybe I can help prevent it in the future, or take steps to help keep him aligned.

I get Baloo adjusted every few months and it seems to help him. It did a huge world of good for the TWH I used to have. he had a total HUGE 100% improvement in his performance.

If your chiro is like mine, he hopefully will be willing to talk about what he is doing. Dr. Jiminez is normally happy to explain anything or offer advice etc. Its very interesting to watch, I really enjy the visits too... now if I could only afford a chiro for myself after all of Baloo's expenses!

Definitely and ask Rocky's chiro any questions you have. Cloe was 'locked up' in her hindquarters and poll - very badly, but no more. She is also no longer asymmetrical and her back looks a ton better!

Before the chiro:

After the chiro:

There's a physical difference and obviously it took time. Now that she was aligned, no longer locked up and no longer in pain she could carry herself correctly, she could be ridden without being in pain, no more lameness, she is now symmetrical, etc. - that is what made the physical change, she was now able to perform and build those muscles, do the things I asked of her, etc. And I just can't describe how all of our problems were fixed. Rocky may be different, but describing what you are saying, I bet after he is re-aligned he will be feeling better and you will be amazed in the improvement with his performance. :D

WOW! What a difference in Chloe's back! that's amazing.
My TWH had a similar change. His pelvis was pretty out of line and his whole physique changed after his adjustment.

Baloo has more subtle changes, but he definitely seems looser and more comfortable after his adjustments.

Thanks! I am so pleased I had the chiropractor out, no complaints coming from me. :D I am glad your TWH and Baloo are doing better! That's great news to here. :)

I also wanted to say, it is a very interesting process to watch a horse be adjusted. You will be amazed in how flexible they are.
