I have a friend who shows Arabs, and she told me that the World Show was this week here in Tulsa. I went over there today to see what was happening. As far as events nothing today, but people were setting up their stalls, so I took a few pictures. Some of these "stalls" are...well like houses. It's pretty impressive. I'm hoping to go back to watch some of the classes. I have to see if I can find a schedule of events. Anyway, here's the pictures I took today.
These first three are just of one of the barns. It's a building about a city block long. They have hauled in enough dirt to cover about 90% of the floor about 4-5 inches deep.

This is a picture of the walk way for the horses across a parking lot from the barn above to the arena area. It's all mulch.

A few pictures of the stall area's that are finished with set up. Remember, this is all in a barn and behind all the curtains are the stalls the horses are in.

I hope to get back to get some pictures of the shows/horses. There were a lot of horses being exercised in different arenas, but I was actually worried that taking pictures might bother some of the people:)

Oh - I hope you do go back when it is all set up.
Of course... I've never been to anything of that caliber, but I hear it's quite a ritzy event!

Ritzy is under stating it:) I was trying not to let my mouth hang open.
I am probably for sure going back tomorrow if I can find out if there are any events tomorrow.
Just so you know, you're the main reason I went:). I figured you'd enjoy any pictures I could get of the horses. I did get this one:

The girl I've barn sat for before is the one that told me about it. She is going to be in it, just not sure what. I'm going to call her to find out, hopefully I can go when she is competing.

I appreciate that!
I have heard that if you go in the evening you will see sequins and black ties, and not just on the competitors. :)
Looking forward to the rest of the pictures. Would love to see the Stallions Halter class, their feet barely touch the ground, they just float... And English Pleasure saddle seat. :)

Wow!!!!!! I want to go too!!! Lol. Tulsa isn't THAT far from me. . . I've only been to one Arabian show and it was crazy. I'd love to go back now that I'm older with my camera. . .that'd be a blast!! I'm sure people won't mind you taking pictures. I do it all the time!

It is an all week thing...just not sure when they are doing what. I've been told that Sat. night is the only night you have to pay to get in, so I'd say that is the biggy night. I'll go if I can find someone that wants to go with me.

I found it too:)...looks like it's not till a week from this Sat. That's good that the events don't start till mostly next week. I can go anytime next week. This week I'm shop sitting while Jenny is on vacation.

Oh, Wow! The World Show! That would be something to see.
Years ago, I was able to go watch the Proctor Arab Show (near Duluth, MN), for two years in a row. Back in the days when the Boggs boys went to smaller shows occasionally, he,he!
Pretty impressive, even that! Some minor stall decorating by the big farms, but nothing like what you're showing there.
Hopefully, you can catch a variety of classes, and take lots of pics!

Wow looks just like when they come to the PA farm show complex and show. They sponser all kinds of different breed shows from quarter horses and on and they always set their "stalls/walkways" up like that. Its crazy but yet so amazing and makes you somewhat jealous. LOL. But then again, they have WAY more money then I'll ever have & work very hard to get where they want to be!! Can't wait to see more pictures if you go back!

Yep, every October is the National Championships.....wow, I would love to go that! Check out and see if they still use the green shavings in the main show arena, lol! Be sure and get lots of pictures for us, lol! It was always my dream to at least go watch the Nationals, they alternate every other year in Oklahoma and the other years it is held in Kentucky.
Lucky you!! The Show Hack was always a class I especially wanted to watch, and reining. Have fun! And hey, if you see the Al-Marah Arabians stalls, be sure to get a peek at their horses.....they're out of this world!!

Here's a few pictures of what we saw today. Once again we didn't get to see much shows, just warm up. We got there during break. We did see the finals of some type of a buggy show and I got a good video of the winner, how do I post videos? The first picture is a still of the winner.

This is a picture of my friends horse that is in it, Dante. She has placed in the top 10 in trail on him, the finals are tomorrow.

Some of the warm up pictures. Sorry for the poor quality. The lighting was bad and my camera wouldn't focus well. The first was my daughter's and I pick for the best of the ones out warming up. Of course it would be the worst of the lot. I believe these are all 1/2 Arabs.

Aren't they gorgeous in the costumes!!! I love that class... you've seen the old native costume I used to wear, so tacky in comparison :o. It was a 70s costume, everything was tacky then. :D
Did you see the actual costume class then? (on edit I see you did load one!) Are there more coming? Do they still hoot and stomp from the stands when the horses gallop to get them as hyped up as they can?
The first picture looks like a dressage outfit... what class was that?
Love them, keep them coming! :D

OK, I'm done for the day, hope it's not too much.
No there are no dressage classes at this show. I was surprised by that. The first pictures are from something like English Hack...not really sure. I thought in Hack classes there was jumping, but it was just walk trot canter. I believe those are 1/2 Arabs.
WashingtonBay
10-21-2008, 03:30 PM
Well that English class is one I'm not familiar with. They're in full formal dressage dress. They look gorgeous anyway!
Hunter Hack there's usually two jumps, yes.
Those costumes sure are beautiful. :)

Oh, I should add, the costume class was a qualifying class for the finals, and all the horses were passed for the final. My pictures are of warm up, and the classes. There were two separate classes, Full Arab Class and 1/2 Arabs.

That grey horse in the blue costume is breath taking! Now, about those tails... HOW do they get them ground dragging like that? I'd be thrilled if I could get one of my four (well OK, Sedona's is but he doesn't go anywhere :() to have a tail even to their fetlocks! Gorgeous.

I have a question. I was just showing these pics to my hubby and he commented on those two western pleasure horses "it looks like they could run right into something there heads are so bent - it looks like they'd only see the ground a foot in front of them". I agree... it looks weird... is that considered "correct" or "pretty"? Seems odd - wouldn't want to ride a trail like that.

Sedona.....I've been into Arabians nearly all my life....the trend is lately to show the western pleasure horses way behind the bit like that, and it really turns me off (as well as other people too).....not all trainers do it, and I sure wish they would penalize them for it, I'd sure like to know if either of those over-bent western horses made the cut.
Wanted to add....the horses and riders in the dressage attire are the Show Hack class.....they do about 3 different versions of each gait (collected, extended, etc.), a really neat class to watch!
Beautiful photos, love to see more! Great job taking videos and pics!

I miss the way it used to be at the Arabian shows WB. Back in the 1970's and early 1980's they just showed the horses more naturally....nowadays it is really getting ridiculous. I think the Arabian Sport Horse Nationals and the Show Hack, and the sport horse classes are great tho, and I'm hoping that those classes and the Sport Horse Nationals "save" the breed from what they are doing to most of the English pleasure and western pleasure horses.
Anyway...I had to pop on here and look for more pics.....I love seeing those Arabians! I have the flu so I am heading back to bed..... :(

I am going to be going again today. For all the questions about the specifics of the classes, I have no clue, not being a show person.
On the WP horses I took pictures of, well IMO, they look better then in QH shows, where the horse has his nose in the dirt. I wouldn't want a trail horse to travel like that either. In fact a very odd thing, I did go see some of the Trail Class...the horses doing the course did NOT travel like that at all. They did put their heads down low for step over obstacles, and were very careful going over, but they were not so severely collected, even when loping, trotting. They looked a lot more relaxed. Seems a contradiction to me of what judges look for. Why have them collect so much in a WP class, but allow for more naturalness in a Trail class? Inquiring minds want to know:)
WashingtonBay
10-22-2008, 09:25 AM
As for the difference in how they travel, look for a difference in bits and a difference in reins.
I think the WP horses have fairly high port bits in that will make them want to hang their head so the bit hangs freely in their mouth, and those fancy reins hanging in those big loops are really heavy. Makes them not want to move their head much from that position.
In trail, they may have both a different bit and lighter reins.
I can't explain the 'why' for wanting it that way.
Remali
10-22-2008, 10:15 AM
I never did understand the current trend with the western pleasure horses either, and there is (or was, anyway, I have been out of the loop for a while) a lot of talk about it, not everyone likes how they are showing Arabians nowadays. I think quite a few trainers tend to over-use draw reins and gadgets like that, therefore the horse gets way behind the bit. If only more Arabian horse trainers would ride with their legs and seat and not with hands and bits and weighted reins......:(
I love the trail classes. To me that is what the Arabian is all about, a great trail horse!
Harleys Owner
10-22-2008, 10:36 AM
Well, IMO:), I think all horses should start their careers as trail horses:) If you have a good trail horse then they can move on to do just about anything else because they'll have a good foundation and will have been exposed to lots of scary things:)
Remali
10-22-2008, 12:21 PM
I think so too. I think any good show horse worth their salt should be able to go down the trail.
And it's just so much better for the horse too (mentally), they need to get out of the arena and out on trails and relax.....just like people. Too many show people seem to never take their show horses out on trails tho, at least the people around here that I know....and I think that is really a shame.

I have to apologize...I got to the show with my camera, but no batteries:(....I had forgotten to get them off the charger. I went all over looking for a place to buy some, but no one sells batteries at a horse show. It's pouring down rain here now too, so I didn't want to make the long walk back to the truck to go somewhere and buy some.
I did get to see some, what I guess is Halter classes??? One horse brought in at a time and trotted around on a long lead, then stood in front of the judges...that's when I would have really loved having the camera. It was interesting to see and the horses were so pretty.
I could go again tomorrow, but right now I feel I've had my fill of horse shows...so we'll see.
