How are your horses doing? What are they like? Any naughty things they've done lately? Personality? Breed? Tell everyone all about them! I'd love to see pictures, too!;) If you're wondering about mine...
Horse #1...Heaven. Thoroughbred, around 16-17 hh. My sister's horse, about 14 years old. Horse #2....K.C. [pronounced like Casey] Morab, about 15 hh, my sister's horse, about 5 yrs old. Horse #3...Hawk. Morgan, 15.2hh, my mom's horse, turning 18 soon. Horse #4.....Billy! Welsh Pony Shetland x, 12.2 hh, my pony :p 17 years old....?
Last but not least..Horse #5...Truman!!! Haflinger, 13.2 hh, my pony/horse thing :D
8 years old.
Now it's your turn! :D It can be the horse you ride at a stable, see almost everyday, you're neighbors...doesn't matter! :)

Horse #1 - Bronson, a 5 y/o grade QH, is a BRAT and a half. Recently he's taken to "spooking" at normal objects that he's seen a million times, spinning around and taking off bucking. But i've been cracking down on that, and he's getting better...i hope.

Horse #2 - Brig, a 22 y/o grade TB, is an absolutle saint. He is great with the beginner students he gives lessons to, but he also loves to bomb down the trail. He is just amazing. I love him so, so much!

Brig is so pretty! :)

Oookay my turn! :p

First is Hopi, my little APHA (a paint in case you're not familiar with that registry) filly. She's going to be 2 in one month and 10 days. :) She's been doing really good with her training. We've been doing some light lungeing which she is an absolute doll with, and bridlings. She doesn't much care for the bit but she takes it fine with no complaints. I can't wait till she's 3 and I can start riding her! But at the same time I want her to stay a baby forever. She has been a little bit naughty about my fence, lately. The power died in my barn so she keeps pushing and chewing on the electric fence which is just 5 strands of wire. I'm going to have to run some extension cords from the garage so she won't hurt herself. She's such a butt.
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg113/zoel_222/Horses/Hopi/981863-R1-21-21A.jpg

Second I have Chica. She's a grade 1/2 Quarter Horse, 1/4 Percheron, 1/4 Morgan cross. She is the light of my life and my everything horse. :) She's mad at me right now because it's been so crappy out I haven't been riding as often as I should. When I go to pet her she'll put her ears back and be like "meeeehhhhh go away person who doesn't ride me enough." Then I'll get up and give her a hug and she'll lower her head and rest it on my chest and say "Awww I forgive you." :D We had a break in the rain yesterday so I took her out for a trail for about 2 hours and she was so happy. All she wanted to do was gallop. I love mah Chica :)
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg113/zoel_222/untitled.jpg

Third horse is Whitney. Whitney's a butt, what more do you need to know? :p She is having weight-loss problems so I haven't been working her at all because she doesn't need to be burning any unnecessary calories. (current on worming, getting LOTS of food and her teeth are getting done soon). I love my Whitney, though. She's such a unique horse and you really have to be able to appreciate her sense of humor and quirky personality. She's such a dork. All she wants to do is eat, sleep and cause mischief.
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg113/zoel_222/Horses/Whitney/snowyhorses009.jpg

Last but most definitely not least is my Auda. She's *always* good and has such an upbeat, appreciative personality. She's so content to do whatever and just wants to make people happy. I think the worst she ever does is sometimes if I haven't ridden her in a couple weeks she'll lean onto the bit and try to zig zag. But after about 10 minutes she stops and is an angel again. She was a rescue I got with the help of the forum and trained her from total scratch. I almost sold her a few months ago and thought I'd never have that bond with her, and after all we'd been through, but I'm SO glad I changed my mind. We have an amazing relationship now and she's so trusting of me I would sooner sell my house and all my belongings and live on the streets before I'd ever sell her. She's my Audahorse and I lovies her. :)

Here we go.
Dolly is a paint/draft X. I think. Not sure what she is. I am sure she is fat.:)
She is 17yr old (we think about that) She was used for a lesson horse when we got her. I had her for 2yrs. She only trail rides. Dolly is a pokey horse and anyone can ride her. She is about 14.1hand

Rashad is Shewasmyshadows horse that I free lease, but I still concider him mine because I love him. He is a 28yr old Morgan/Arab X. I just trail ride him but SWMS did show him. He is awsome and anyone can ride him. He is about 15h

Buttercup is a 8yr old shetland/cross. Not sure how tall but short. Very gentle pony that the kids ride.

First is my haflinger Toby (registered Motley RR). He will be 8 on April 1st - so yes, he is an April Fool's baby and lives up to that! He is such a clown at times and loves to get into things. He isn't quite as bad as he was when he was younger, but he still likes to pull little pranks. Oh, he is just over 13.3 hands - but don't let his short size fool you. We did have problems with EPM when he was 4, but we treated and rehabbed him and now he is good for trails. I still don't push him too much, but he is great for a fun afternoon and will happily out-walk the bigger horses. He gets this cute little power walk going.

http://inlinethumb55.webshots.com/1590/2387394670058074505S425x425Q85.jpghttp://inlinethumb51.webshots.com/38770/2443818340058074505S425x425Q85.jpg

My other one is my 2nd haflinger. He is a grade but purebred and is going on 5 years old. He is a solid 13.2 hands (just stick measured him a couple days ago) and we call him Willie. I got him in October as an unhandled stallion where he grew up in a lot of acerage with cows & other haflingers but was never halter trained. He is now halter trained and we are working on desensitizing him to new things and ground work. The plan is to saddle train him this spring and use him as a back-up horse for Toby - especially when I plan on going on longer, more strenuous rides. He is getting used to me pretty well, but still not trusting of new people yet. I don't think he is settled in enough to let his full personality show through yet, but from what I have seen - him & Toby are going to be trouble together. LOL.

http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=243&pictureid=7941

Then there is Apache. He will be 4 this spring and is currently just shy of 15.1 hands - but I have a feeling he isn't finished growing since he is a draft cross. He was an orphan nursemare foal (a very sad business there) and we had to feed him milk out of a bucket when we got him. We also almost lost him to foal pnemonia right after getting him - they believe the whole lot of foals never got the colostrum they needed. We was a very loud and bright chestnut tobiano, but he quickly started to go grey. He is a very mellow guy, though sometimes wants to push it a bit on the ground but nothing that isn't typical for a young horse. He is my husband's horse now.

http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=131&pictureid=881

Then there is JJ, my donkey. He is 13 hands red roan dapple and is 7 years old. He is the big puppy dog of the field.

http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=131&pictureid=882

Finally, there is Drifter (Dlux Ready Edition). He is a registered paint with WP bloodlines and is turning 4 years old in 2 days. Since I was laid-off I have been looking for someone to lease this boy. He is a total sweetheart, but tends to have the worst luck (see the recent Drift is Lame! thread). Most definately the bottom of the pecking order out in the herd. Despite being young, he is one I can jump up on after a month or two of not riding him and he goes just fine. He LOVES attention and being pet.

I need to get new pics of him - this one was from this past summer.

Lets see my horsey's . :)
1 st - Ebony's Perfect Riser (aka Jordan) reg Tennessee Walker 11yrs old 15.2 hands. Jordan is that special horse for me,that I spent years looking for. He is my trail mount when I want a relaxing and comfy trail ride. He is my best friend.

2nd - Ryan's First Jet (aka Prize) Breeder Stock APHA 6yrs old 16 hands. This is the horse I take English lessons on.I really love taking lessons. Prize is helping me to become the type of rider I have always wanted to be. He test me all the time and will only perform when asked the right way. He keeps me on my toes. We are starting to form a bond and I feel once I learn more on how to ride him the way he was trained we will have a strong connection together. I feel more and more connected with him after each lesson. I can't wait for summer so the weather won't mess with are lessons so much.

3rd - Rocky Dee Lite (aka Rocky Top) reg Kentucky Mtn horse 8yrs old 16 hands. This is the horse my DH trail rides. He is a gentle giant and smooth but needs a confident rider as he is a reactive horse.

4th - Darth grade Tennessee Walker 9yrs old 15.3 hands. This is my young son's horse. They have a very special bond together. Darth will do anything for my Son. Darth likes to speed and is the smoothest horse in my barn.

Alright...I don't own I just take care of/train (I guess)/etc.

Honie - 3 yr old quarter pony filly, sorrel, SHORT like 12 HHs or something, cute little thing that's got the jitters, she's willing to do just about anything for me.
Puss - Is just that, 7 yr old Arab/Appy, Black, with a THICK and long mane and tail. Beautiful, sometimes a BIG jerk, doesn't want to please, but will take treats any time. *sigh* he's a project..lol.

My guy is Rebel, a 10 year old Standardbred gelding. I've had him for about 2 weeks now, lol! We're putting some weight on him and showing him the ropes. He was a harness racer in his younger days, and a trail horse since....but knows nothing! So he's basically like a green youngin'. :)

The only naughtiness he's really done so far was bolt when I mounted last week. I ate dirt, but aside from a bit of soreness and a headache, I wasn't hurt at all. Other than that, he's been a good boy and I fall more in love with him every time I go to the barn!

His personality can be best described as a typical gelding, I think. Kind of aloof.....but he's also an insecure fella. He gets very worried when he's on the crossties if I have to walk down the barn aisle about 20ft to grab a shovel or something, and he hates it when I talk to the other horses in the barn, haha. He cries and makes pitiful faces so I can't resist him and have to go give him lovings. :)

If anyone wants to see pictures of my "kids" they are on the website listed on my profile page. We don't take alot of pictures of them because they don't like to pose. Sarge likes to have his face in the camera and the others always put their ears in a funny position.

I did have a Leopard App. named Domino [AKA Dommie, Reg. Name Spooky's Decca Dice] he died 3 days shy of his 28th birthday. He was the love of my life and I swore I'd never get another horse. I miss him every day. We had a very strong bond. Never say never though because now I have 3.

We have Sarge. We think he's part Haflinger with 1/4 horse in him too, he looks similar to what everyone else's Haflingers look like. His mane isn't quite so light but he's built like one. He's super friendly, he's like a puppy and he's very funny. He follows anyone anywhere. Every new face is a potential treat giver to him. He loves to play with his brother. He's 13.2 hands and about 5 1/2 yrs old.

Relampago is a Colonial Spanish Baca Chica, he was born in New Mexico, was brought to Vermont and that's where I got him, at Red Road Farm where they had a preservation program for Choctaws and Bacas. He's registered with the Horse of the Americas. I met him and his eyes called to me. He was very shy but now that he's here he is so funny. He carries his food dish around, he runs with anything he can pick up including a stick he found that's about 7' long! We had to take it from him so he didn't brain his brother with it. He likes hitting his brother with their Jolly Balls. They have 3 balls and they also have barrels to play with. He LOVES to be chased. He runs like the wind, he's very fast. He's a bay and about 7 1/2 yrs old and 13.3 hands.

I think between both of them they could pull off a jail break, you never know what they will get into they are trouble but are very very funny. My husband left the tack room door open by mistake one day, it does have a rope across but they were able to reach in and pull every rake, bucket etc out into their field and it was scattered everywhere and our fork was in pieces, that's the second time. Rompy loves to run with long sticks! Rompy also loves to stick his head in the water tub and play in the water. Sarge is like Pig Pen in the Peanuts Cartoons, dirt sticks to him and he doesn't stick his head in the water, he has no desire to be cean! They do both love mud and roll in that until it's caked on them like cement.

We also have Delta Dawn, she's a black Reg. 1/4 horse. She lives at a stable my friend owns. I ride her there because they have an indoor arena and a nice outdoor arena. She was used on a ranch and I think all's they did was use her and let her go. She's well trained but I don't think she knew pampering, she loves to be brushed and fussed over. She'll stand for hrs untied if I will brush her and braid her hair and spray her with pretty smelling stuff. She's a total girl! She's the best trained of all of them but I'm not the best of riders so I still don't like taking her on trails much. Her only fault is that when she's in heat she is horrid, you can't do a thing with her. When she's not in heat she's a great acting horse and with alot of loving she is turning into a horse that enjoys to be hugged and loved on and is now even getting a sense of humor which she didn't have before, she was so serious but now she'll act silly sometimes. She will be 10 yrs old in March.

Lakota's Pet
02-16-2009, 07:28 AM
If this is long, I'll apologize now. We have 7 in the barn that belong to myslef, my sister, and my dad, so I thought I would give you some info on everybody.

#1 horse is Cross Timbers Dancer aka Moose. He's my sister's 17.3 hh strawberry roan belgian gelding. He'll be 10 this year, and she's had him 2 years now. He's like having a giant puppy dog around. If you walk out in the pasture you have a 2300 lb shadow. He loves people, and any kind of attention, and is trained to ride and drive.

#2 horse is Lakota Spirit Warrior aka Kota. My 15.1h 8 yr old registered buckskin paint. I just bought him in August, and with the tough wonter we've had I haven't been able to do much with him as far as riding or mounted police training. He has been very standoffish, and kind of a bully since we got him. But I think I had a small break through with him yesterday. I walked out in the pasture to visit everybody, and he didn't really want any of the others near me and was acting protective. I think we're finally getting somewhere.

#3 horse is Wilbur. He is dad's 10 yr old percheron cross gelding. He's 16.3h and jet black. We've had him since he was 18 months old and he hadn't even been halter broke then and was already 15.2h. He's the lover of the barn. He shakes hands like a dog, will beg, and will take candy from your mouth.

#4 horse is Oreo. He will end up being my son's horse eventually. He is a 9 yr old 15.1 h grade paint. He is supposed to be registered, but we never got his papers. When we bought him he was 4yrs old, 14.3h, and was foundered, and thin. We changed his diet, got his feet taken care of, and once he was better he finished growing. He's turned in to quite the horse, and I took 8th place in the North American Police Equestrian Championships with him last September.

#5 horse is Diamond Lady aka Lady. She was given to use by a friend of my dad's because she couldn't take care of her anymore. She is a 20 yr old morgan mare that has been a multiple time local driving champion. Unfortunately she wasn't used as the woman's hubby was sick. She came to use with long feet, and very overweight. Since we have had her she has lost the excess weight, and has had her feet done a few times.

#6 is Sundance aka Fred. Freddy is the old man of the barn. He is a 25 yr old QH/arab cross. We have had him 18 years now, and he has been everywhere and done everything. Dad took him to the NAPEC last September and got 6th place with him. He is now semi retired, as age is starting to catch up with him now, but he still loves to go. We just don't want to hurt the old guy.

#7 horse is Supreme Socks Astro aka Red, Whinny Hinny, and Astro. He is a 15 yr old 16 h QH. He came to us because we were owed some money, and they had this horse they couldn't handle. We found out later that he was a barrle racer out of California, and had been sold because he went lame. Ended up changing homes a few times before ending up in NY. Our farrier found what appeared to be the reamins of an absess that covered his entire left front hoof. After hoof work, we found out that he has some serious trust issues, and hates most of the world. So we don't let anyone but my dad or I ride him anymore, as he has tried to hurt people before. We have had him for 5 years now, and he has done everything form hunters, to barrles, to trails, and police work.

Cat, Toby is sure looking good. Hes one of my favs.

Painted PJ, otherwise known as City
He is a bit of a jerk on the ground, but comes back around easily enough. Loves to ride, so when were on the trails he is always ready to go. When I hook up the trailer, he is at the gate ready to go.
He is my best bud.

Shes calm, easy to handle, a love on ground and in the saddle.
She is always willing to learn.

"Sassy" is a 6 year old sorrel snowflake Appy mare. She has a great attitude towards what ever we are doing, an awesome trail horse, and gets along with everybody.

"Noche" is my daughters black 28 year old TWH gelding. An awesome guy who built my daughters confidence up, great on the trails, and Sassy's best bud.

"Rowdy" is an 20 month old bay roan Appy colt. He is a pocket baby, we love him so much!! We will be starting him under saddle when he is 2 1/2.

"Toby" is one of the new horses we picked up. He is a beautiful bay Quarter grade gelding approx. 2 1/2 years old. A great personality, such a pleaser and lovable. I think he will turn out to be a great trail horse.

"Lena" is another one of the new horses we picked up. She is a registered sorrel AQHA Filly approx. 2 1/2 years old. She will be a little tank when she is finished growing. and I'm hoping to use her for team sorting, and working cattle.

Wow, everyone's horses are beautiful! I love looking at pictures, even if I've seen them before!

Well, this could get long too. We have 7 between my parents & I, so here goes.
"The Girls" All of them are arabians.
Coulaid (lady) is an arabian mare. She's 8 or 9 (I can't remember). She's my Dad's replacement horse from retiring Trixie. Lady is very much NOT a people horse, she's pretty though.
http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=169&pictureid=1417

JC Khalai (Khalai) is Lady's filly. She goes back to Khemosabi and other greats. She's a beautiful girl with a bit of a stand offish personality too. She's gentle as can be though. We started her last fall and will be resuming her training this spring. She's smart as a whip and catches on very fast!
http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=169&pictureid=2286

April Beyelle (Trixie) is the senior of the place. She's a SE arabian mare. She goes back to greats too! She was a parade horse & trail horse for my dad for many years. She now enjoys spending her days lounging in the sun, eating her food as well as everyone elses, and being loved on & pet! She's a sweet girl who we love very much and will miss dearly.
Definately NOT her best pic, but it's the only one I have on this forum right now
http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=169&pictureid=1418

Chinook is my Mom's mare. She's a saint of an old lady. She's been used to teach my lesson kids as she's so patient and calm. Nothing really rattles her chains. She's just her & she's a 1 in a million horse with a super personality.
again, not a great pic, sorry
http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=169&pictureid=1419

So that brings us to the boys (my horses).
Mans Bay Rocket (Rocky) is a breeding stock APHA horse. He's a jerk to be polite about it. He needs manners in the worlds worst way. He is schedueled to go off to boot camp this spring and I can't wait to get him off my place for a while. I hate to sound so awful but right now he's a menace and a danger to inexperienced people. He needs a change of pace with someone who's a stranger who'll put him in his place. Hopefully that'll help him.
I'll put a pic of him on later.

Cawl is another saint. I'm not sure what breed he is but I think he's a TB/QH and about 30 years old. He's my newest guy. I got him for my boys to use this summer and also for my lesson kids. Mostly I got him because I felt bad for him though. A great horse in his day and then tossed out later at retirement age. My boss had him for a couple years but had to get rid of him because of some other matters. So, now he's mine and I'll have him until he dies.
http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=170&pictureid=5041
http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=170&pictureid=5042

Then last but not least, there's Dudes Tuffy (Rodeo) my main 4 legged squeeze. He's a APHA gelding. 7 years old and my best bud. He loves me and would walk through fire for me. He's a big baby for me, but can be a jerk for other people. I love him to death!
