As many of you don't know is I have been having some trouble with my (friend) & more importantly the Barn Owner feeding & watering my horse (as well as others), and cleaning the stall... It's not a matter of her not having the food available to her, I buy my own grain & hay & straw for that fact. It's PURE laziness. As a friend & a boarder I pulled my friend aside & said to her, if I am going to continue to feed my own horse & clean my horses stall & water all the horses (when she doesn't) then I'm going to reduce my "board payment". I did this in what I thought was a very nice & serious way. She appologized & gave me the run down of how it was so cold out & running late for work & the kids were causing her to be late & her husband never helps her in any way.. blah blah blah . I told her I understood but I pay her board for a reason (as do the other people there) it means #1 I can't keep the horse at my own place #2 I can not be there EVERY SINGLE day to care for my horse *my schd* does not allow. I said to her that if her *schd* does not allow for the "boarders" then she needs to get out of the business. :( She assured me she was going to get her $hit together & get on the ball, did not want me or anyone else to leave. Needless to say 2 weeks went by & it was back to me showing up with buckets dry as bones & no hay & dirty stalls. My horse (i've been watching) is NOT GETTING FED  and has begun to loose weight! Needless to say, (although, I'm gonna feel bad for the rest of the horse b/c they will no longer get water when empty from me) I'm moving Legend. I can not see myself paying board for my horse when she is not getting fed, standing in dirty stalls or getting seriously sick from dehydration. :( I'm sad to leave my friend but it's for the safety of my horse!

Legend & I now at the beginning of the month will be moving to the "rescue" where I work at. Coincidence would have it, that Legend was a rescue her self, but not from this one. We are being welcomed with wide open arms, got plenty of friends & plenty of horsey friends for herself. These people, LIVE to care for horses and I have NO doubt that Legend will get every single thing she needs & then some!! I will be paying a little more money but hey, it's the price I am willing to pay for her safety & my peice of MIND! And I'll get to put more time in volunteering because I'll be there more often & won't have to split my time between there & Legend!! :)I think this is going to be a good thing!!

That's really the extend of the horse development. It's worth mentioned that as I expressed my concerns for my horse (to some friends) I had plenty of people come out of the wood work & offer up temp. or permenant home for legend until I figured out what I wanted to do! I do have some good "horsey" friends close to home. Problem is, this is such a small state that everyone knows everyone and I had to be really careful who I talked to because I did not want to run her into the ground. I do not think it's a matter of her not caring I think it was a matter of pure laziness.

Okay I'm done. When I get to the new place I'l make sure I'll take some pictures. O yeah another good thing. This place has a ring, round pen, trails & well taken care of stalls & fields!!

Sorry you are having problems with your friend as a BO. I am glad you are moving Legend. Dosnt sound like a place Id want to board my horses, so unsure of anything, not watering or feeding, NOT an option in my book, and the stalls, well, ya paid for it to be cleaned. You did the right thing for Legend. Good job!!

Wow, sounds like a great move! Bummer about your friend but Legend would come first in my book also!:)

Her other schedule issues aside.... Cold weather demands MORE care and attention to feeding and watering. It's definitely not an excuse to do LESS.

I agree. This is what had me most upset... Forgetting to feed, okay, not feeling like doing a stall once & a while but NO water more times than once! UGH.

She would text me while I was in class ask if I was going out to barn, I'd either say ya or nah & then her requests would follow. Please water the horses, I didn't have time or the hose was frozen, please let the horses out of the stalls didnt' have time this am??!?! (that also ticked me off, poor horses stuck in stalls for longer then needed) I didn't put the horses in tonight (freezing rain & cold) because I didn't get a chance.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a needy person, I dont' request that my horse be stalled every single night. I'm okay with my horse staying outside under normal conditions but freezing rain & sever cold ~I'd prefer her stalled. I also don't mind "helping out" around the farm/barn because that's what I was taught to do, but when I pay you money to do things you should be doing them on a normal regular basis with out the expectation that I'll be out today to do it for you! I should just be paying myself!!

Thanks everyone. I agree I made the right decsion. I told the BO I was leaving because I was offered free board in exchange for my volunteer work. (A white lie but I didn't want to sever a friendship.) Like I said, I don't plan & do not wish to run her name into the dirt, but I do know that she was not going to do her part in keeping my horse healthy.

I am gonna miss going out there. I'm gonna miss her sweet kids and I'm gonna miss traveling off the farm to ride but the health of my horse is more important. It's not an option to let her suffer for a friend and to save money.

Loves: My friend/BO seemed okay with it. Like I said before I told her a little white lie. This is a small state, I really didn't want to burn my bridge and run her name into the dirt. I just hope that she wakes up & realizes she needs to be more "professional" when boarding horses at her house. As of right now I leave 2 other boarders behind. BOTH of which are not there often, but thankfully the horses are healthy & real EASY keepers!

It's too bad its not working out with her but it sounds like you definitely have a good plan by boarding Legend at a rescue place. Keep us updated FoxFire. :) I hope all works out for the best.

Will do. I think it will def. work out. Like I said I volly with these people & know how they run things. If not I got a standing offer with another friend that takes very good care of their horses too. Anyway I'm excited & I just wanna start NOT having to worry about legend 24/7. With my job taking me away for 24 hrs straight it's hard to be there all the time "watching" over things.

It sounds like you handled everything as best you could. You get to move Legend and did not burn any bridges behind you. Your horse's health and well being have to come first in this case.

Well, I don't have anything to say beyond...I wish you the best of luck with everything and...Am I the only one who thought that this meant "Body Odor" when I first glanced at the title? :hysterical:

I had to think twice :D

This is why I don't mix friends and business. I'm not going to be "friends" with someone that I pay money to, or vice versa. That dosen't mean that I won't have lunch with a client, but I'm not gonna go bar hopping.

yaorneigh & WB, you guys are too funny! i guess I never thought of that, but then again I seem to NOT think of things to long when I know I have something to say. LOL a fault of mine!!

Walkin~ your right however i wasnt' friends with this lady before i became a boarder of hers. I enjoy her company but I learned quickly that she is def. not a "business" person. I've boarded with plenty of friends & became friends with them after the fact & never had this type of problems ~ the difference the other people have been doing this for years & running a business & keeping people happy is something they did on a normal & regular job for them. :) But your right, really.
