Hey guys- New and exciting news. I got rid of my bipolar, crazy horse and got a new rescue! He's been so much fun to work with- has been a doll the whole time. I'll post pics later.

the ONLY thing I miss about my former horse- he had rock solid feet. You could do anything to them and they were perfect. This new horse has pretty soft feet(prob from malnutrition- his coat is completely shiny and healthy looking now- he looks like a different horse!)

So my question is... Do Black Oil Sunflower Seeds(BOSS) make hooves harder? I don't want to start giving them to him if they will make them even softer than they already are.

Thanks! :)

Personally, I'd feed a good hoof nutritional supplement before BOSS, for that purpose. You'll have to be patient no matter what, it takes new hoof a year to reach the ground.

Welcome to the forum Cheesemnky! :)

What ever you decide to use, it does take time.
When I got City, he had thin walled hooves. I put him on BOSS and after awhile we started seeing a difference.
He has to have shoes. The walls could of gotten thicker due to age, he was still growing. Who knows.
But with all the different things BOSS does for me, I like it.
A good hoof suppliment is never a bad idea if ya need it. Just be patient either way.

Anything with Biotin will help hooves, IT DOES WONDRS! Not sure what BOSS has in it...

Thanks guys- I will try it and see what happens. I'm glad there's an active forum again! I've been quite busy w/ two jobs, still teaching music lessons, and then my new horse. :)

Also- I thought the thumbs down was a question mark. lol oops
