My degree is environmental chemistry with a minor in business management. This has led everywhere from a lab rat to supervisor, to most recently health & safety. However - none of it is where I originally wanted to be - out in the field doing work with the environment. Its really hard to get jobs like that and they seem about non existant around here.
Well before I chose science, I always debated in HS between something in art-type degree or science. Science won out because I figured a career in art would take me no where - you know the starving artist type thing. However, I do have 3 1/2 years of art classes behind me and I was also in year book for 2 years with one year as photo editor. Not to mention my own personal photos & editing as my own little hobby for my website.
Well as a spur of the moment thing I applied at a photo studio yesterday as a studio photographer. I thought it would be fun, but considering my recent science background and the fact that I have yet to be called back for an interview in my own field, I doubted I would hear back.
But I was wrong - less than 24 hours later I already had a message on my phone!! I missed it because I was outside with the horses and its already getting late - so I will call back first thing in the morning. But they want to set up an interview.
Maybe its a sign that its time for a career change? I'm just happy for an interview. Being jobless since thanksgiving is bumming me out.
