I feel so dumb, lol. I take care of horses and I have no idea what just basic grain costs. I know hay, of course. But I've also never had to know. SO what are you payin'?

The last time I bought grain it was $11.70 for Strider from Blue Seal. I'm sure it's gone up since then, but I switched barns and stopped paying for my own grain.

I just bought grain about 2 weeks ago from a small feed store we have out here. It was on sale for $8 or $9 so I bought 2. I haven't started feeding too much of it yet, but the weather is changing so I probably will begin soon.

My horses eat 14% pellets and they cost about 9.00 for a 50 lb bag.

$14 for a 50lb bag of Blue Seal Trotter, but I'm switching to Blue Seal Min-A-Vite-Lite and I am unsure how much that costs.

I almost don't want to admit what I pay for Abby's grain... But in my defence of the price this is the best grain I have ever put her on. And since I feed pelleted hay this grain is a wonder. I feed Purina Athlete at almost $40 a bag.

Wow! I was paying $30 a bag for Buckeye Ration Balancer, but I like them on the Blue Seal better. xD No reason to not admit, you are giving her what is best for her! That's a good momma. :p

Gosh, with all those fancy and expensive grains, it seems like i'm neglecting my horses! They don't get any grain, except for once in a while they'll get whole oats for a treat. And i think that's about $12 a bag around here, but 1 bag lasts me about 6 months.:D

The horse in my avatar is now 21 (he was 16 in the pic) and metabolic. I have a 12 yo that is trying to be metabolic, so nothing is cheap.

To keep my equine dietician life as simple as possible, I have recently switched all four horses from pelleted rice bran plus a pelleted vit/min supplement to Purina's WellSolve L/S (low starch for special needs horses).

The rice bran and vit/min supplement were each over $20 per 50# bag, the WellSolve is $27.99 per 50# bag.

Thankfully, the metabolic horse eats the most (14 ounces 2X/day), so it's not quite so painful.

I would not have to work if it weren't for The Boys, but then I would not have a life either because they are what makes my tired old self get up and get moving every day:D

Whole oats are $15.00 a bag now- but my grain bin is full- we bought oats from a farmer back when they were cheap- so they are practically free-:D

We only feed grain after our pasture is no longer producing decent grass for over the winter and once our colts are done growing I doubt they will even get that. Maybe a handful for a treat here and there. When we do get grain, its a local 12% protein mix that we pay $13-$15 (I'm not sure what it exactly is right now as hubby has been buying it) for a 100 lb bag.

With my older gal I was using Senior Glo which by the way is an awesome product. A 50lb bag is around $17+tax. I also use Progressive's grass ration balancer running around 24$+tax for a 50lb bag.

I get mine from Tractor Supply. Between $8 & $9..It is their brand so it is less than Dumor which can be around $12.00. Oh yeah forgot,, it is 12%

Wow rather-b-riding!! My Safe Choice is 13 a bag!!! 14% protein. My horses are doing good on it. I have a lot of older harder keepers and ZERO pasture.

My mare is doing good on it too (just wish it wasn't so darn much!) although from the sounds of it on here, it's certainly not as expensive as some others. I wish I was only paying $13 a bag though!

it's 12.50 a bag here unless you buy on a schedule then it;s base on how many you by a month....Since I buy 8 bags bi-monthly it's only 10 per bag for me.

Most of our feed store here work out deals with their horse owners that own more than 4 horses.

I pay $30 for a 50 lb bag of ration balancer called Essential K. Best thing I've found so far.

Dakota Sunrise

I get my grain made up at my feedstore. When I first got Dakota it was $9.72 for a 50 lb. bag. Now it has gone up to $11.00 something. I also get my beet pulp there, and that's like $14.00 for a 40 lb. bag, but it lasts quite a while since only Dakota is getting it.

$16.99 a bag for Nutrena Senior and $14.99 a bag for Nutrena Prime. Black oil sunflower seeds have gone up to $27.99 from $12.99 for 50 lb. bag over the past 2 years.

On a good note I found a hay supplier with big square bales (75 lb.) for $3.50 each. It's really nice grass hay and the horses love it. I've been paying $4-$5 each for small squares of mediocre hay.

Dang! I wish! I just switched stores I bought it at even. The last place I was buying it it was $15. I thought I was getting a steal! Although the place where I buy at had a sale this week so I got it for $13/bag and next month they are having a buy 3 get 1 free sale... so i have been getting them a tad cheaper...

Everyone is right though... grain prices are skyrocketing!

I think I'm being ripped off! LOL When I go into to buy my two bags of Strategy every two months it's always about $40 total. The I buy a large bag of BOSS for about $20 a bag. My grain costs per month average about $30.

Seminole Wellness Performance (low starch, nsc) is apx $18.50 a bag, which lasts one week. I don't want to calculate how much the supplements are costing.

We only grain our horses when we work them and when the pasture begins to fade, we hay twice a day right now as it has been so dry and grain once a day and I pay $8.50 for 12% blend made by a small local feed store. It is a good buy and the horses love it. I guess it depends on if you show or jump.

I haven't started my horses back on grain yet but its almost time as the grass is starting to fade. I have heard its going to be a real shock because the price of grain has gone up. I have heard a lot of talk about ration balancers. Would it be cheaper to feed plenty of hay and a RB or just hay and pellets. I give Purina Senior to Cisco and Ultium to Willow.

It depends on what they NEED if a Ration Balancer will work for you... mine are on free choice hay and a ration balancer my hubby says we are saving money !! LOL but I have three easy keepers ... my 3yo is my hardest only becasue he is still growing ... he gets 1 1/2 pounds per day

WHy do you feed the feeds you do and how much of each??
