SO's dog that I got him is unspayed, and he said she's in heat and bleeding "EVERYWHERE" and that every female dog bleeds.

Am I uneducated? (possibly) But I didn't think female dogs bled like female humans. He says that every dog he's ever known has bled while in heat. I've never heard of this.

And of course I'm trying to prove him wrong.

Enlighten me please :)

Yes, they do.... the difference is they bleed during estrus, not after.

And it's usually just spotty - but enough to be a mess. You can put doggie diapers on them. Then both your dogs can be in shorts ;)

the dog my boyfriend and I have went into heat around Christmas...she was making enough of a mess we went in to town and got a diaper thing for her...we were unsure how she'd react, so we bought the cheapest one they had (she chews her collars off)...pink and white checked with ruffles..Soooooo not Cricket's style.

she thought she was being punished!! LOL She was still having the occasional accident inside and we thought maybe she thought she was being punished for that. She did wise up and find out if she went to lay in her crate, she could have her diaper off...so she spent a lot of time in there on her own accord.

funny...after that, she's never had an accident in the house since...LOL. If we catch her sniffing around, we'll call her ruffle butt and she cringes and walks over to the door and sits down (we called her ruffle butt when she had that diaper on..LOL)

My sister has a lab who typically bleeds a good bit. Not continuous but spots everywhere. Where as one of mine doesn't do hardly any.

My mom has an inside dog, Chihuahua, and she has a pair of those dog underwear things for her. LOL She looks totally embaressed in them. :p

We put Sasha (German Shepherd) in the diaper things with a hole for the tail. She was scared of them at first but got used to it. Pain in the rear taking the thing on and off for a dog who wants to go out once an hour if you let her.

My old dog (terrier/poodle) from years ago used to bleed quite a bit when she was in heat. We gave her an old pair of my shorts and cut a hole out for her tail. She would get quite excited if we said "you wannt wear your shorts buffy?" She knew where we kept them in the house and she'd go stand there and wag her tail and whine until we'd put her shorts on her! She was quite proud of herself in them! lol

My female dog (a Collie/lab) bleeds whenever she's in heat. Sometimes the flow is heavier than other times, but it's not usually a constant thing, just sort of spotty. Although it is enough to cause a mess.

Thanks guys.

She's still bleeding and it's just been a continuous drip, but of course I'm rubbing it in his face if he would have just gotten her spayed in the first place...this wouldn't be an issue..

Our dog will lick her bottom but has not gone into heat in over a year. Is there something wrong with her? she had puppies once. I just sort of figured it was from lack of socialization since she is our only dog...
