View Full Version : What's your grooming routine?

I start with a rubber curry comb. I then use a tiny little rubber scrubber on Arrow's face, then brush it. Then I brush the whole horse. Next I do the mane and tail. Last--I pick out his feet.

After a ride, I rub out all the sweat marks and pick out his feet. I also check all over for cuts or scrapes.

In nearly two years, I've only ever shampooed Arrow one time! I sponge off sweat, though, or use a hose.

On days I don't ride, I'll go to the barn just to groom him--if I do it late at night, he really relaxes into it because he knows there'll be no ride after.

So what about everyone else? Mine's pretty simple--only one kind of brush, no laser sheen or anything.

Anything else I should consider doing?

Well, it depends. If I'm in a hurry to get saddled up or even if I'm riding bareback--like when I have to meet my neighbor for a trail ride at a certain time--I'll just run the stiff body brush over his whole body, then use a soft brush on his face. Then I'll comb his mane real quick and pick out his feet and we're off. In the summer time after a ride, I always hose them off.:)

Sometimes though I just go out to spend time with them, and when I do that I do a really good grooming. Start with the rubber curry, then stiff brush, then soft brush, comb the mane and tail--complete with Cowboy Magic detangler--, and pick out their hooves.:)

Brush the area where the saddle will be.
Personally I dont like to groom, it frustrates me cause my horse is yellow:rolleyes:
I do sponge or hose down after a ride to get rid of sweatiness, and I do pick out her feet, otherwise I just run my hands over her to check for cuts at feeding time
