Okay, I see a lot of posts for farrier rants - so I wanted to put up my farrier rave to offset them:)

My farrier is the bomb!! He is a great person, good with the horses, fun to hang out with, and does a good job on trims for a very good price. He is also prompt (both showing up and calling back), courteous, and willing to explain for any questions you have.

So - my two points to be so happy about most recently?

First, the lady who did my boarder's pony (trims) for a year or so came in to town for a visit. She did my horses once after I moved here (she had come back from CA for a trip to do some other horses, so I asked her over) and did a good job but charged a hefty fee and was planning on charging even more if she kept coming from out of town (so I had to say no :(). Anyhow, before she left she pretty much said she couldn't recommend any farrier in town because the majority of them were no good and the few who were good were psycho (the one she was going to refer to went nuts at a horse show and started yelling at her and throwing things). I went out on a limb and hired a guy from the next town over, who she hadn't heard of.

So, she comes out to check over the pony's feet and said they were GREAT! She had even planned on going ahead and doing them (due about that time) but said they could go another 1-2 weeks and we might as well have my guy do them. She even commented favorably on another horse of mine that she said was pretty tough to do well (my old TB - he has terrible TB feet!). Woohoo!!

Then, within a week or so... I have down on my list of "to-dos" that I HAVE to call the farrier and schedule an appointment. It was on my list for several days and I just hadn't gotten around to it - so Friday, I put it on the "MUST DO NOW" list. Before I get a chance to call, HE calls ME and says that he noticed I hadn't scheduled yet and he wanted to see what my schedule was like for the next week. I about swooned - told him he must have known I was thinking about him :). Anyhow, we set up for Monday. Yay!

I wonder if I should give him a raise? I can't right now very easily (money issues) but when we get more money in I will definitely give him at least an occasional bonus!

Make sure your farrier knows what you think of him. Tell your friends. Nothing better than the good stuff getting back around to me via different people. Makes the hard work and time commitment worthwhile.

Can i also say that i like my farrier too?:D He's awesome, he does a SUPER good job, and he'll call me a couple days before the 6 week deadline and tell me around what time he'll be out there so i can meet him. It's so wonderful!!!!!!

The guy i had before him did a really great job, but was SUCH a flake, argh. Really nice and everything, but i'd call him a couple times and he'd never answer or call me back. So then i'd have to track him down through my neighbors who use the same guy, and find out from them when he was showing up to do their horses, then get my horse down there to get done at the same time! One time he just didn't return my phone calls and Brig was at like 9 weeks, so i finally had to find a new farrier, and got really lucky.:)

That's awesome! I have a really great farrier, too. He can be kind of bipolar, though lol. Like one day he'll be the nicest most down to earth guy ever, and the next day he'll be super cranky. But he's a great guy and I wouldn't trade him for anything. :) He's always respectful to me and my horses and is very gentle with them and he does an outstanding job! He does charge a lot, though. $45 for a trim versus the $25-$30 that's average around these parts. It's definitely worth it, though.-
