So I thought that this forum should have this thread too, since it helped us all out and gave us some cool new ideas. Thanks to luv2show for the one on h.com in the first place. I'm just gonna copy and paste the links from h.com's thread and put them on here, so we have them all. Other than that, share your ideas !! :)

How to make a hay net from bailing twine: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Haynet

Here is a horse treat recipe that I use:

1 cup uncooked oatmeal
1 cup flour
1 cup shredded carrots
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons cornoil
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup molasses

Mix ingredients in a bowl in order listed. make small balls and palce on cookie sheet sprayed with a non-stick spray. Bake 175 C (350 F) for 15 mins or until golden brown. ( I also add other things to them sometimes, like add honey, cinnamon, bananas, apples, peppermints, anything you can think of! they're also edible for humans too, and if you make it with cinnamon and bananas, they're tasty! lol credit to luv2show for that idea....and our snack on the way to the barn haha )

Heres a great recipe for homemade flyspray, thanks to luv2show:

2 parts avons' SSS (Skin So Soft)
1 part citrus listerine
2 parts apple cider vinegar

So go ahead and share all your ideas everyone! :)

Tail bag= tube sock cut strings at the top and tie into tail.
mare magic=dried rasberry leaves
Show sheen= dip your brushes in oil and lightly spread on
add extra shine to coat= feed about a teaspoon of light vegetable oil 2 days before a show
safing up the horse trailer= cover the scary metal bars with thoose little pool noodle things
cooler=old comforter

cooler=old comforter

Seriously? Does that work? Does it need to be any special material?

What do you mean by mare magic?

Mare magic is like a supplement to calm mares down when they are in heat.
it costs like $30 but all it is is dried raspberry leaves.

and yes, i have one of thoose fleece tie end comforters and it works really well as a cooler
one of my friends just throws a bath robe over her pony it actually works pretty well.

on way to save money...work at a feed store and get everything at a discount and have it come out of your check so you never see how much you spend. :) only problem is that you dont get much of a check. but old sheet work well for tail bags, apple cider vinegar for fly spray, buy tack second hand, go to dollar tree for shampoo, conditioner, hair brushes for tail and mane and anything else you can find there for horses.

dollar store is the best for grooming supplies!

When your socks get holes in them, instead of throwing them away, use them for applying fly spray on the face and legs- I've discovered you waste a lot of spray to the air spraying the legs, lol!

Homemade Horse Treats

Ingredients (organic in all cases, if possible):
2 cups rolled oats or Quaker Oats (original)
½-3/4 cup apple juice
2 apples chopped into small pieces
½ cup dried mango or guava
½ cup shelled raw unsalted sunflower seeds
2 tablespoons molasses
1 cup bran (wheat or rice)
Instructions:
Mix everything together. Drop on ungreased baking pan by teaspoonful. Bake for 20 minutes at 375 degrees F. Give one at a time.

Tubes socks and nylons, I put on my horses canon boned loaded with fly spray.

Nylons in stead of vet wrap to hold on wraps for iceing

Pads instead of bandages

copper piping in water troughs to keep allegy away.

Dollar store, for storing cans, treat cans, brushes

I like that fly spray on the socks/nylons, put on cannon bone.
I have a 13 gallon rectangular garbage can that I keep all my treat stuff in. Consolidation is a good thing.

Copper piping? That is safe? Fill me in on that, I could use that one.

Yep its safe, funny thing is when the vet out he goes * I hate those type of throughs. I was like why is that. Said cause they get all yucky so fast. I said I don't have that problem... told him now he uses and and no more yuckies.

I have 3 foot long pipes in the bottom, they don't take them out less I let it get low... no ill effects at all. You think about it some salt blocks have cooper in it and some grain..

OOO I love these kind of threads too! Thanks Washington. I hope I can find this thread tomorrow when I get to work & can print some of it out! HEE HEE....

I always go to the dollar story for my grooming supplies & I love buying tack second hand b/c i don't really show except for fun shows so I don't need the fancy stuff!!

Fly spray I usually mix SSS & regular fly spray. (Must have an empty to dump reg. fly spray in it to make room 4 the SSS. I also recently started putting in Vingar into the mix if I have it! Works well!

I got some more ideas but can't remember right now! LOL

money saving faram coupons

http://www.farnamhorse.com/coupons.php

Make a paste of talcum powder and water and then paint it on freshly washed white markings. Leave it on until you leave for the show and then brush it off. It will stop dust and dirt from getting into the socks! If your horse has kicks or bites on him and the hair hasn't grown back, try rubbing in Vitamin E cream. Vaseline will also help hair to grow back.

Watered down efferdent (denture cleaner) will remove yellow stains from white legs. Rinse WELL to prevent irritation.
