Ok, I'm a dragon addict, so much so that I am braving the dangers of the dragon cave entrance and collecting my own eggs. These will eventually hatch and become my own loyal pet dragons. Opinionated pet dragons who don't always do what I want them to do. :rolleyes:

Where is this cave that I brave? You can find it here:
www.dragcave.net and you can also find your own scroll there to keep track of the dragons you catch. Dragons seem to be on an internal time clock and most eggs seemed to be laid on the hour, though you can sometimes find them at other times through the day, such as quarter past and half past.

My goal is to get one of each type of dragon. It seemed easy in the beginning, but it is now becoming more difficult since all I have left to catch are the rare dragons - and let me tell you, they are rare and in high demand! These include silver and gold dragons and seasonal dragons that change with the season.

You also occassional come cross an egg that doesn't belong. Once in a while there is an actual dino egg and a chicken egg of all things! I'm assuming the hen didn't last long after she laid that egg in the dragon den. :eek:

So what do you do once you get an egg (or 4) on your scroll? Well then you use the code they provide and put them in your siggy (only 2 allowed on this forum with the way its set up right now). Your goal is to get enough views and "unique" views to get your egg to hatch. Its a combo of views and time. However, you don't want to get so many views so quickly that your egg becomes sick with "soft shell". You have to check the description daily for that. Its a horrible pain, but easily fixed by fogging the egg using the actions control.

So there are some challenges, are you up for it?

Oh, then what do you do with your eggs once they are grown? Well you can just collect them, or you can breed them. Be be warned, they don't always agree with the partner you choose for them and will sometimes flat out refuse you.

Oh, and for those bleeding hearts who like to rescue eggs, you can find abandoned eggs here once in a while. Once touched by humans, the dragons refuse these eggs, so their fate is left in our hands.

O.K.--I've clicked away, now click for me if you haven't! So all we do is click? What's the difference between a click and view? Do only the clicks count when it comes to hatching?

Views is how many times your egg image uploads on a page. So if someone opens this thread - all of our eggs will get a "view" count. If its a ISP address that hasn't viewed it before, it then counts as a "unique view".

Clicks are counted when someone actually clicks on the egg and goes to the page with description. These only count when they are unique clicks.

You want views to be higher in count than unique views and to be higher than clicks. Really hard to get it any other way anyways. However, if you get too many views in a short time or the ratios are way off somehow - then your egg will get "soft shell" and you need to fog it for a while. 24 hours usually does enough. Too long and your egg can't hatch.

Roughly you need at a minimum 300 views and the egg to be down to 3.5 days left for it to start hatching. It does very between the different dragons, but this will give you a good idea. Actual clicks - I haven't been able to figure those out other than you need a couple at least for most eggs but sometimes its just 1 even.

Your welcome! LOL - but what do you expect from that forum? Dragcave was started by a teenage kid and he seems to have the typical mindset of "we dont' need no stinken directions" LOL. If guys refuse to ask for directions, why would they give decent directions? :p

I had to go to different forums to learn what all was going on. The incubator forum was a big help and there is a link to them in the FAQ section.

Ah, I see what you're saying! Yep, mine don't usually come out until around 3.5 days. I'm waiting on a vine dragon and a gray dragon right now, I'm excited! :D Btw, do you know what an alt vine dragon looks like? I've seen alt blacks but not alt vines.

Aries - your blue will start showing cracks when it says 3.5 days left. It has a decent ratio for hatching. Your Red looks to be a tad behind on views.

Know what you need to do? Post more! The more people that see your signature, the more "view" counts you get. You need to become more of a chatter box. :)

Well you have to sign up for an account, then you can either save one (if there is one) or get one from inside the cave. I saved mine but they go fast out there!!! If you don't click quick it'll say "That Dragon has already been taken." or something like that!! Good luck!!! Post when you get one!! I'll click!

Yep, its important to be fast, otherwise you won't be able to get any. I almost always get abandoned eggs instead of the ones in the cave, I just refresh until it says there's some and then I click as quick as I can if I see one I want.

This is what it says when I click on "Cave" NOTHING else is on the page except for an ad and it says how many users are online and the heading at the top that says "Dragon Cave", there isn't an option for getting an egg:

You enter the cave and see many large dragons scattered about, some with hatchlings, sleeping on piles of gold.
You also see a pile of scrolls on the ground. Having been here before, you have started a scroll (http://dragcave.net/account) to record information about the growth and progress of your eggs. A scroll labeled "Forum (http://dragcaveforum.technoized.com/)" also catches your eye.
You expected to see some eggs, but there are none to be found.

My hatchlings won't grow up--they're older than Cheval's, but aren't grown. I guess that I'm not posting them in enough places, but my other forums don't allow the codes in their signatures for some reason. I guess I'll post the hatchlings here again and hope the views are good enough--I think everyone who will click has, it's only one click per customer. The views still count, though.

Adult dragons don't need clicks as they fend for themselves. As long as you check your scroll their names stay active. It's when you don't log in and click on your scroll over 2 months that they lose their names, nothing more then that though.

Clicked everyones eggs and hatchlings. Since clicking each egg separately only gets 1 per day, the easiest way to get more views is to post your scroll. That way when someone clicks it, everything on there will get a view and then each egg/hatchling can be clicked to give it the unique view and click. Also when your eggs/hatchlings are close to the 3.5 day mark, you can refresh your scroll by using F5 or the refresh button over and over to get the views up. Usually once they get down below 4.5 days left they rarely get sick. :D

Cat no silvers this breeding, they gave no eggs at all. Though 2 of them should be breedable tomorrow, so I will try again!

Why do you want a certain egg from certain parents?

Anyways - the one at the cave entrance are called "clean eggs" and these are new eggs generated by the wild dragons. Parents are wild so there are no names. The ones with parents you will get either by breeding your own dragons or getting them from the abandoned page as these came from breedings from hand-raised dragons. Once in a while you will get an abandoned egg without parents listed and that is because someone got a "clean" egg and decided they didn't want it and abandoned it.

However, even on the bred eggs you don't know what the parents are until you get the egg, but thankfully we don't have recessive genetics to worry about - what you see is what you get, even if one of the parents was a different breed.

Your egg is close to hatching. You have 3.64 days left on the time clock and it will probably hatch right around 3.5. So sometime today you should have a hatchling!

Arrow - They have maybe 25 right now? Not sure on the exact number, and some of them are very hard to get - like the alt black and alt greens have to be bred, you can't just pick them up at the cave.

And yes, they do add new dragons. There is a whole list of potential dragons somewhere "out there". They seem to be adding new ones every month or so. And some of them are only offered on a limited basis - like the Christmas dragons.

My first 3 are girls and have "boyish" names--they are Pern names, so they aren't REALLY male, I don't think, but in my mind I know--names for boys!:D Are there are a ton fewer males to keep folks from breeding like crazy, or what? Nope, just random luck. Some people get more males, some get more females and some are more balanced. I was pretty balanced until just recently and now I have more females. But even then that doesn't help you because both males and females can only breed once a week. Plus the dragons are finiky. I tried 3 breedings the other day and none of the dragons would have anything to do with each other!

You have "clean" eggs that were born of wild parents with no names. These are usually the ones you find at the cave entrance, but someone could get one and decide they don't want it and put it in the abandoned section.

Then you have the "bred" eggs. These are the ones born of hand-raised dragons and will have parents listed. You can breed these yourself or find them in the abandoned section.

Cat--how does breeding work? I see that you can choose only one to keep and it has to be within in an hour...so does a breeding give you eggs instantly, or what?

Yes, you instantly know if you have eggs from the breeding and how many. Sometimes you get none or just one, and sometimes several. You have to go to the female and select "breed" as the males do not have the option on their actions sheet. Then once you do that you can pick which male.

Once bred, neither male or female can be bred for a week - even if you got no eggs.

You have "clean" eggs that were born of wild parents with no names. These are usually the ones you find at the cave entrance, but someone could get one and decide they don't want it and put it in the abandoned section.

Then you have the "bred" eggs. These are the ones born of hand-raised dragons and will have parents listed. You can breed these yourself or find them in the abandoned section.

The best thing to do is just put it in your signature. I actually post them at first, then put them in my signature. If you don't cut and paste anything else, just hit paste at the end of every post for awhile, and it'll paste in, won't it?

Some folks do it when the hatchling grows a little if it is the wrong sex. Sometimes they are trading and the person they are trading with doesn't get it, someone else does. Sometimes, they want say, a rare but don't have room and need it, so they dump something easy to get.

Mandzanita you'll be able to tell the gender after the hatchling matures a little. Usually by getting it's wings, though one comes with wings and water's don't have them.

Can you get more eggs once all your's hatch? Mine are all hatchlings.

If you have four hatchlings, you can't get more eggs, just like if you have four eggs. And--I think if you breed and have too many eggs or hatchlings, you can't keep an egg, or the hatchling runs away before it matures. I think I read somewhere, that an egg you bred can be hatchling number 5 or something, but that's it. They've made it a long, slow game.:)

ETA--yep, I've just seen someone's scroll where an egg they bred themselves is their fifth egg. So that's the only time you can go to five.

You can have 3 hatchlings and add an egg. If you time it right you can have 4 hatchlings and 2 or 3 eggs--I did once. But unless you are breeding, if you four eggs or four hatchlings, you are stuck and can't add more through stealing or adoption.

Yeah, they are lighter than the grey fog eggs and the silver dragons are rare, along with gold, paper, dinos, etc. I think they look neat.

I think they're making a mistake making the breeding work only with the parents. It should maybe come from the grandparents--it would be cool to steal a wild one, not know what the parents are, then breed and have a chance at silver and gold ones. I'm sure they're not changing that NOW, though...

You have to have both a male and female. Click actions under female, then breed. It brings up the names of your males, pick one, and waa laa--you breed. So far I've had eggs from one pair and "your dragons aren't interested from another." My understanding is that there's different levels of "no thanks" and if it's the strongest, the two will never breed. You can only breed a dragon once a week even if there are no eggs. You may keep one egg--the others will be abandoned. If you have too many eggs and hatchlings, they will all be abandoned. You can breed any color dragon to any other--they don't have to be the same. Usually the male eggs will be like the father and female eggs will be like the mother.

I've been trying for a silver ever since I started this and I still can't get one!

How do you get silvers and gold ones?

You just have to steal them in the egg dumps. Description of gold: This egg is very reflective, almost metallic looking. Description of silver: This egg gives off a beautiful glow.

Okay!! I've clicked on everyones!!! Now I have some new ones that need clicks!! Oh and I got a gold one!! But I REALLY want a silver so I've been working on that. I also got a paper one but I'm thinking of abandoning it because I don't really have any use for it. (Can't breed and it's paper. . .)

So if anyone wants to try and coordinate a timed dump for a paper let me know. ..

to get some of the rares you can go to the Giving Tree and the Trading Thread on the DC FOrum and try to get put on the list for gifted or tradeables. Or you can ask for a possible egg from another member if they have the ability to breed for them.

Be sure you read the rules on both of those first, though.

If you go to the forum, and do some digging you can find some really cool info. TJ puts up site updates and news, so you can actually follow and know wen the site is going to go down for maintenence or updates (which is goin to b happening shortly).

I can breed for several things, and would be willing to fill requests when possible. Dragons will only breed every 7 days. So many of mine are not going to breed until Monday. I did a big breeding last week, so I could do a trade.

Dinos, Paper, Chickens are all NON breeders. Some of the other breeds only breed with in the breed, and some only breed outside. And then there are others that don't care.

Off to do my morning clicks.
